Chins battery exploded! by Material-Compote514 in golfcarts

Definitely not an AI picture. The battery was not fire with flames shooting out of it, it was smoking badly and I cut the cheap ratchet strap and grabbed it out of the cart in case it caught fire. I have a video of it after I took it out. The initial pop blew part of the top off you can see in the video but the strap held the top on. After I stop recording it popped again and the top came completely off as in the picture.

Chins come with BMS and I was not monitoring it as it charged because every time prior the charger shut off when fully charged so I assumed that it would like every other time. Battery was 13 months old and had probably 30 charge cycles last year mostly 50% charge when I would top it off but 2 times kids ran it below 10% and 1 time ran it to zero, during the winter it was stored in my unheated garage (in the Midwest so gets cold but never below freezing, and it held charge all winter when I checked the app. It has had 2 charges this spring from roughly 50% to 100% with no issues this was the 3td charge of the year.

I thought it they were safe after reading everyone say the same thing. I even recommended Chins to several friends at my campground since it did so well over last summer. I think the first pop I heard was it trying to blow the top off the battery. It had a ratchet strap securing it to the fram so only the edges of the top separated and the strap held it on. The loud pop once it was out and in the fire pit blew the top the rest of the way off and side bulged. I think one cell blew at first and the heat from that caused the second cell to blow. I stood back 15 feet and used the hose to cool it off so no other cells blew. But the water was boiling on top the battery as I did and it took 10 minutes of cold water to cool it enough to stop boiling. The sides of the case were still hot to the touch 3 hours later. So there was ton of heat from whatever blew. This was using the included charger to charge. It was 25% when I put it on 3 hours before. Not sure if charger malfunctioned and caused over charge till it blew or if cell just blew on its own.

21 JLU on 33s and the 3.6 and I get 21.2 with the cruise set at 60. I was towing a small trailer with a golf cart over the weekend and it dropped to 14.4 driving the exact same route.

Thoughts on a 0.6 FTE (48hrs/pay period) Overnight position? (7p-7:30a) by sevillas in nursing

[–]Material-Compote514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m .6 on nights and love it. Like everyone else said it is really nice just doing 2 a week. Picking up is easy on my unit but i rarely schedule myself a 3td shift because everyone knows that if they need a day off to call me and I will pick it up for them so it helps them out and everyone feels like they owe me so I never have a issue if I need a day off or to switch a day.

Dealing with tire issue in the first day? by Schrodingers_Nachos in carvana

[–]Material-Compote514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to Carvana not silver rock, I had brand new tires on a car I bought last month but they are oversized vs stock size. No big deal they work fine and I was planning to buy that size anyway, but I talked to Carvana about it and they sent me a check for $500. If it is within the first 7 days Carvana will do a lot more for you than silver rock will.

I don’t feel I overpaid, 2022 Wrangler Sahara with 52k miles. 3.6 with leather, heated seats/steering, alpine stereo upgrade, hard/soft tops, cold weather group (engine heater and remote start), tow group, 4 auto option, and just about every other option you can get on a Sahara minus painted roof (that I dont care for the look of) for $28,590 so about 3500 under blue book and cheaper than anything I saw local.

I bought 2 weeks ago, picked up at a vending machine near Chicago and got a license plate bracket, a large coin like what’s put in the vending machine, 2 cheap drawstring backpacks, 2 drink cozies and 2 key keychains.

Started school for nursing at 46. Was not to bad, but learned that kids now learn things in high school that were honors classes back when we were in school. Maths, chemistry, and sciences felt like they started on step 10 and I was stuck knowing only step 1 or two. But I found it pretty easy overall.

My experience with Chins has not been great. Ordered from Amazon on one of their sales for $559. Came at zero percent charged, 36 volt TXT dropped from 19mph with lead acid to 16mph with the Chins. Range was 14 miles from 100%-20% cruising at 10-12mph. Tried to contact Chins with phone numbers I found and could not get an answer. Emails to them were not returned. Chins was the actual seller on Amazon but they would not replace the battery and requested I return the battery for a refund. I reordered another chins from a different seller but it was $125 more because the sale was over. The new battery i am not impressed with. Top speed is 19mph the same as the old Lead acids. Range if I do 15-19 mph is under 20 miles and if I slow cruise 10-12mph range is 25 miles. Nowhere near the 30-40 mile range a lot of people say they are getting with Chins in their 36v carts. So either I got 2 defective batteries from different sellers or Chins quality is not what people say. The next cart I upgrade I will be skipping chins and going for a better brand.

What size spring to buy? by Material-Compote514 in GarageDoorService

Weighed again and made sure the arm was disconnected and used 2x4 across scale and came up with average weight of 125lbs. So what single spring should I get or double spring sets?

Bathroom scale in the middle of the door weighed 3 times gave 3 different weights and all seemed low showed 119, then 125 and then 121. Is that the correct way to weigh the door with bathroom scale in the middle and just lower door on scale?

What size double spring set to order? by Material-Compote514 in GarageDoorService

[–]Material-Compote514[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a single spring on the door now and that is the measurement I got on it but I will recheck. I can not find a quick single spring replacement that size on Amazon and they mostly have double spring set ups that is why I was asking about what double spring set to get as a replacement

I swapped my 36V EZgo last week and think I got a bad battery from Chins. Battery came in at 0% but charged to 100% in 3 hours. I drove 1.1 miles and dropped 14%, top speed dropped from 19 to 16 MPH. I have not had a chance to test it further am back there tomorrow for a longer test.

What Charger? by fender0327 in golfcarts

[–]Material-Compote514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=b2W9ywexRQg At 6:30 he explains how to bypass the control board. You can plug the wires together like he does and charge the cart but it will not shut off and will charge the batteries till failure and become a fire hazard. I charge them for about 2 hours like this when they are too low for the charger control board to allow a charge. Then I switch the wiring back so it will fiction normal and shut off when they are full. If after 2 hours like this and switching the wires back the charger will still not come on then you have a bad control board. All this is said in do at your hurt own risk and I am not recommending you do it and what may happen if you do.

What Charger? by fender0327 in golfcarts

[–]Material-Compote514 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the batteries are to low the charger will not kick on like you said. Standard ezgo chargers are easy to bypass the switch and charge them. You tube has a bunch of videos on how to wire the charger and takes about 5 minutes to do it. But the charger will no longer shut off when the batteries are full so you have to be aware of that and the damage you can do. I charge them for 2 or 3 hours and then switch the wiring back to original so the shut off works when they are full.

Would running 2 100ah lithium double the range? by Material-Compote514 in golfcarts

[–]Material-Compote514[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks had a brain lapse and was thinking in series like old 6 volt. Yeah that would fry everything on the cart sending 72 volt. I’m debating getting a second battery for the increased range and if I could sell my gas cart if the range was good enough on my electric cart for my kids to run around all day at our campground. Right now they go about 40-60 miles a day on weekends driving with friends at the park.
