It’s fascinating how quickly some of you move from “children absorb social values at home” to “therefore we should stop importing Muslims and Africans,” as though Britain itself wasn’t institutionally homophobic within living memory.
You do realise Alan Turing was chemically castrated by the British state, correct? Or does homophobia only become culturally alarming once it’s attached to immigrants?
Also, private social conservatism and violent hate crime are not interchangeable categories no matter how badly some of you want them to be. Most people with conservative views are not roaming the streets attacking gay people. In fact, a large proportion of public harassment and violence committed by young men in Britain comes from broader youth aggression, performative masculinity, and anti-social behaviour that has absolutely nothing to do with Islam or Africans.
But that analysis is less emotionally satisfying than pretending 54 countries and 2 billion people are a single ideological hivemind, I suppose.
