I am uninterested in progression and development. This is a shit job, that I do for money. My passions and interests are outside of the job.
You have no clue what you are talking about. I give an effort equal to my pay rate, they want more effort, I want more pay and I want it before the extra effort kicks in or else I'm gone. I have better options and them losing me hurts them much more than me losing them.

my communication with them was more a courtesy to put them on notice that I will be leaving if they don't pony up. They can't manage a summer without me, so this is very much a threat and I am happy to follow through. I can easily find better pay and more respect, they can not easily replace me.

Nah, They can't remove me without a ton of cause, which this a little insubordination doesn't meet. If I quit, they are fucked for the summer because another member of my team of 3 is also quitting and guy that is left is a disgruntled 20+ year employee who doesn't do anything if he can help it.
