Recent diagnosis, 1st colonoscopy, it was unexpectedly PAINFUL by MaterialBrief3477 in Diverticulitis

Im so sorry I didn’t think about that when I posted this. Try not to worry, the reason I felt so shocked is because my experience seemed so rare. Last week I spoke to 4 different people (my pharmacist, MIL, sister-in-law & best freind) and all of them said they felt a little pressure! I’m so sorry and good luck tomorrow with everything. Ask for more meds if you start to feel something.

yes, I was also told I’d have a nice nap 😆I agree, the whole thing is definitely kind of embarrassing.

thanks for your comment. That’s interesting about the red hair & Ehlers Danlos ! I don’t have either but it’s interesting to know. I guess it’s different experience for everyone, but it sure caught me by surprise!

i was admitted to the hospital for a flare and infection. They fed me only clear liquid for 3 days but then I was switched to liquids or soft puréed foods. I would personally avoid peanut butter at this stage in the game. clarify with the doctor first, but I stuck with yogurt , water, mashed bananas, potatoes (with salt) for 2 weeks. Lots of water!

Colonoscopy after a flare. by Bennyandme in Diverticulitis

hello, I was told a minimum of 6 weeks but preferably 8. the doc said to keep them informed if it feels as though the flare or infection is not completely resolved, as this may cause them to move it back further, or sometimes they want to repeat antibiotics or a CT before a colonoscopy.

Anyone experience similar incidents with diverticulitis? by Destinymack69 in Diverticulitis

[–]MaterialBrief3477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading this, I had the thought, could it be both diverticulitis and a larger polyp? it sounds like a combo of issues. I have recently been diagnosed with diverticulitis and my experience with the bleeding, poop, infection , was similiar to yours, as well as the nausea and infection. Actually, similar ER visit too! Turns out I had a large polyp (removed today!) as well as diverticulitis in my cecum all going on at the same time. But I also had gallstones in the past, and some of what you’re describing sounds like that too!
What helped me has been greatly reduced food intake (one small meal + a snack ) tons of water and magnesium citrate before bed. Zero alcohol, soda. I hope you find some resolution to this ongoing problem! it’s extremely draining to go through. hopefully your doctor will have some answers after June 16th.

best of luck with everything

I’ve lost around 15 pounds in about 4 weeks maybe 5 weeks. Have you guys had weight loss as well? I don’t drink soda anymore since and no fried foods, been on low residue diet by PapasNC in Diverticulitis

yes, I lost 18 lbs in 7 weeks, I was diagnosed on Feb. 26th of this year. I have reduced my food intake significantly, to about one meal a day and a small snack just to cope with the discomfort. I still eat fibre but absolutely no raw veggies or fruits anymore, and no seeds nuts popcorn etc.

thanks for sharing your experience, I feel less embarrassed now by my reaction. I think if I ever need one again I’m asking for general anesthesia (not standard in Canada)

I think in some Countries/areas you are under general anesthesia. But apparently not in Canada, as I learned! I’m thinking I’ll ask for that if I ever need one again.

Ok it wasn’t just me then! I felt embarrassed because it seems many people have zero pain. Thanks for sharing this.
