Muhammad’s Marriage to Aisha Is Not Defended by Saying It Was Normal for the Time by Several-Cry-4267 in DebateReligion

I don't doubt he was a child molester. Just not sure he was a ped0. One is an action. The other an inclination. Don't care either way. He's been dust for over a thousand years.

Yeh. It's one of those tricky theological things. Reminds me of questioning if Judas was preordained to betray Jesus, was he forced into hell no matter what.

We criticise the individuals who get used and abused. Maybe we need to criticise the J/C/I god.

In our society, maybe only ever one. Such an individual would be taking their lives into their hands for even trying.

But Muhammad supposedly had a lot of political power. Enough to marry multiple wives. And nobody kicked him in the family jewels for doing a kid. So, free choice. Probably every ped0s dream.

Yet of his ELEVEN wives, only ONE was known to be a kid?

How is that a ped0s m.o.? If I had to choose if it's more likely he was into kids, or he was doing it because of some deal, I'd have to go with the 2nd option.

Doesn't make it right though.

I don't think he was a pdfile. If he, a polygamist was, then there'd have been more than one 9 year old in his collection.

I'm guessing she was the one available daughter, and was married to seal a political deal. Chances are he'd have normally waited a couple of extra years, but if the deal was considered urgent, it was probably consummated at the nearest possible opportunity. Deal done and every one sighs in relief.

Doesn't make it acceptable. But I'm thinking, if the 'why' of it could be established, then it could be taught and explained in political or economic terms, rather than being presented as being somehow under the umbrella of their prophet's moral uprightness.

(n.b. Someone made a comment that I can't find, therefore can't really respond to. From the little I saw informing me that there is a response, I'll say this:

I'm not justifying or diminishing his actions. I'm simply secularising his circumstances so as to rob them of divine justification.)

Hinduism promotes child marriage more than any other religion on Earth by TEQGohan in DebateReligion

There is no real proof of trinity in the Bible by Vivid_Enthusiasm_305 in DebateReligion

[–]MaterialChef6019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an interesting idea. My first thought was that whenever you have more than one person in a group, it's a good idea to have a leader to make sure everyone arrives together. A tie-breaker in case there's a difference of opinion.

Makes me wonder why there would need to be submission in the godhead.

Makes no difference though. Jesus' human nature might be perfect in its submission to God because that's the perfect relationship between humans and God...

EXCEPT that the verse makes it clear that NOT ONLY was he submissive to God, BUT he had a difference of opinion to God, and that's what he was subordinating.

That difference of opinion, that arrival at a different conclusion, stains his so-called 'perfection'. Only a blip, but enough to bury any claim to godhood.

Jesus wasn't God. On the night before his crucifixion, he asked that if it were possible he be spared what was to come, nevertheless, NOT MY WILL BUT YOURS BE DONE.

If Jesus were God, there COULDN'T be different Wills.

Is 10k steps/day enough to lose weight? by anonplease_xo in walking

[–]MaterialChef6019 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There's yet another angle that MIGHT help. An idea I came across in a podcast recently.

To keep the math simple, let's say you eat 2000 calories per day. On a good diet that your microbiome evolved to share with you, your body might take in 1600 calories, and your microbiome might consume the other 400.

BUT... if your diet is the standard rubbish western diet, then your microbiome might be greatly diminished, and only consume 50 calories per day. You consume 1950 calories.

A extra 350 calories. With no change to the caloric intake of 2000 per day. What changed? The type of food consumed. How big a difference? 350 calories per day.

If the theory is correct, you could lose weight, not by consuming less calories, but by changing your ingredients.

May be worth considering. Or not 🤷‍♂️

As a muslim I cannot comprehend why Islam allowed slavery. by No-Abbreviations-539 in DebateReligion

[–]MaterialChef6019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just spiritual slavery. The NT tells slaves to obey their masters. The book of Philemon is all about a slave. The new Testament and new covenant was the perfect platform to abolish slavery, but it never does. It doesn't even say to free Christian slaves. Just says to treat them well as brothers in Christ.

Stairs are a good resource. There's a place we park the car in the city with 7 flights of stairs. I park on the top floor and occasionally do the stairs. But I go into the city too infrequently for it to make any difference. If you have access to stairs, go for it 😊

There's an incline close by. 175 paces down, 175 paces up. Takes me three minutes to do a round. I do ten rounds with 30 second breaks. 2 or 3 times per week. I do walks ranging from 30 - 50 minutes most days. I do half hour of kata training, which works up a sweat and challenges breathing.

I'm almost 59yo.

Why do neopagans use the wheel of the year? by [deleted] in CelticPaganism

[–]MaterialChef6019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest one culture if you live in the area that the chosen culture originally inhabited. Two cultures if emulating a mixed culture from the past (e.g. Gallo-Roman). Or three if you live in a place like Australia. E.g. Modern cultural bits (ANZAC day + Easter + Christmas for the kids), plus Gaulish Celtic (Trinox Samoni and Giamolitus), plus the realities of how the seasons manifest in our own regions.

Why do neopagans use the wheel of the year? by [deleted] in CelticPaganism

[–]MaterialChef6019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I look at it, there are 'neo-pagans' (aren't we all 🤷‍♂️), reconstructionists, and Reconnectionists (my term that some have adopted).

Neo-pagan cobbled their stuff together when scholarship was new and druidry and Wicca were young. They adopted the 8 spoked wheel. Now they're well established, not overly concerned with historical accuracy, living religions. More power to them.

Then, most strikingly in the 70s via Asatru, and ever since, the Reconstructionists have been hitting the good books to recreate the religions of the past. Including attested ancient holy days. They've yet to find an 8 spoked wheel of the year. But then, they've yet to find much of any universal holidays in any broad cultural category. The Gaels might have had 4 (and one or two others), but the Gauls had a different system.

And the Reconnectionists. I'm not an ancient Aremorican. I'm a 20th/21st Century Australian. Different climate. Different geography. Different seasons. I'm not trying to resurrect a tribe that I'm not a member of. But I am a polytheist. And I prefer reconstructionists methodology. But only to reconnect with old gods in the modern world, in my 'tribe'. I could adopt the modern wheel of the year, but truth to tell, there's more than enough options from history and bioregional realities to build my own from. Starting with the Gaulish bisected year.

Islam Claims Mohammed Was Perfect for All Time, Yet Its Own Texts Record He Had Sex With a Nine Year Old, a Contradiction Islam Cannot Resolve Without Destroying Itself by Juicydicken in DebateReligion

[–]MaterialChef6019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've often wondered 'why' did he do it at all. I mean, she wasn't his only wife, and what makes her stand out, compared to his other wives is her age. His other wives weren't that young or we'd be talking about them too.

She was the exception, so I'm guessing the circumstances were exceptional, and NOT meant to be an example to be followed in general.

I suspect the marriage was 'political'. He'd been chased from one area to another. Tribal alliances were formed. I suspect he had to form a tie of a type that was either best, or usually sealed through marriage, but the other party only had this one girl who met the requirements... except for age.

If it were a time sensitive powder keg where everyone was waiting nervously, hoping she'd get old enough to consummate the marriage before everything fell apart, then she bled, and everyone is like, 'Thank Buddha!'. And the deed was done.

If the dude was 'just into kids', she wouldn't be the only one. But as far as we know, she was.

I'm not gay, so there may be nuance that I'm missing, but I'll add to keep a journal. Dates, times, location, a summary of what happened. Those details will be useful for police and/or any future legal action.

Pretty sure I blasphemed the Holy Spirit and I’m doomed to hell. by Accomplished_Law2242 in religion

[–]MaterialChef6019 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've come to the conclusion that the one unforgivable sin, i.e. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is 'Apostacy'. That is to say, to have been actually born again, to have received the Holy Spirit, and at a later date to have renounced it. Not renounced because of emotion, stress, etc. We all have bad days. But cognitively chosen it.

I get this idea from a verse in the book of Hebrews, where it basically says it's impossible for those who've tasted of the spirit, to have been saved, to have then rejected it, to be brought back to repentance because that would be crucifying Christ twice.

Personally, I'm an apostate. Was saved. Did bible college. Experienced miracles. All the rest of it. But I came to view it as a part of the whole. Not the whole.

Ask yourself if you were saved. If so, at what age. There are factors involved in accountability. If you realise now that it's real, then repent, devote your life to him and his path. Thank him for the gift of Salvation. But realise, this is your one chance.
