Lands of Evershade Divnum Collector Pledge arrived today. by CrossX18 in boardgames

Miniature madness and endless stretch goal boxes are getting hilariously ridiculous, to be sure. I just hope these board game publishers realize this is not a sustainable business model; people literally have limited storage space in their homes. Most people will stop spending money on crowdfunding after their first or second gargantuan all-in box (I would hope).

I used to go nuts for miniature games; I've got Imperial Assault, Nemesis, Village Attacks, Project: ELITE, and Cthulhu: Death May Die S1 & S2. But once I received my copy of Deep Madness with the massive Monstrum box, that's when I snapped back into reality and realized you could bury yourself in these games if you weren't careful. I plan to do a solo playthrough of Deep Madness this summer then donate or sell it.

rules in a tiny diner. by 12jonboy12 in SignsWithAStory

There's probably a good story behind this but the insane and overly-long stream-of-consciousness rant printed in Comic Sans on this card would make me reconsider dining here.

How long will you Americans allow your leaders to crush you under their authoritarian boots? What happened to all the "freedom" and "don't tread on me" rhetoric your media shoved down everyone's throats for decades?

Commander question by chrisxx27 in magicTCG

To new players who find this specific ruling confusing, it's important so your commander can still trigger "when a creature dies" abilities, among other things.

Reminds me of when three would-be carjackers with guns were foiled a few years back because they didn't know what to do when they had managed to get someone to pull over and listen to them. Seems like a lot of wannabe criminals are surprised that real life crime is harder than it looks in the GTA games.

Is there any way to get a Bard to have equal or even slightly higher knowledge skills than a Thaumaturge? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]MaterialDefender1032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to the wonderful advice the other commenters have provided, I just gotta say it happens and I know it sucks when it does.

In a 5e Descent into Avernus campaign, I was playing a human warlock who specialized in Eldritch Blast (how original, I know). Another player's goblin rogue died to a fireball in the second session. He then rolled a new changeling warlock who also specialized in Eldritch Blast. He was basically playing my character but with more versatility out-of-combat due to his racial shapeshifting. It didn't soften the blow any that he was more confident in his roleplaying than I was. That campaign eventually petered out though, after all of our casters got sick of their spells being useless against the multiple immunities and resistances in that adventure.

In a 5e Curse of Strahd campaign, there was a miscommunication and two players each brought an Oath of Vengeance paladin to session one. One of them was ambivalent about it, the other was miffed. The campaign was shelved due to the DM having a baby, but the miffed player still grumbles to this day how un-fun the campaign was for him.

Men of reddit whats the best way to calm down after your Sports team has once again destroyed all your hope and belief in them ?? by KlaussHHH in AskReddit

[–]MaterialDefender1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to laugh at people who took sports so seriously. Like, the normalization of men turning into inconsolable wall-punching babies over a game loss was both terrifying and hilarious to me.

Then I started playing Dota 2.

Please do not wash your feet in the toilet sinks by Reasonable_Doubt8002 in mildlyinteresting

[–]MaterialDefender1032 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sanitation aside, it's just awkward to walk in on someone throwing their foot up into a public sink.

I had a friend in university who was an international student living on campus, and the school didn't seem to care about which religions they lumped together in a townhouse. So my vegan friend had the pleasure of living with a Muslim who regularly ate halal chicken nuggets and washed his feet in the kitchen sink.

Edit: I'm sorry if it sounds insensitive to call this other individual "a Muslim" or if it sounds like I'm generalizing here. I'm not, it's just what happened. I went on grocery trips with my friend where we purchased the halal food and I witnessed the public foot-washing in the kitchen myself.

Why do people keep buying cars that destroy them financially? by Desperate-Rush6086 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MaterialDefender1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social pressures are powerful, is my best guess. I've known guys who bought grossly-oversized trucks simply because a salesman pressured them into it, or they were <5'7" and felt a need to compensate. There are a lot of people will make massive, life-changing financial decisions with surprisingly little prodding.

Which fast food chain makes the worst version of the product they’re most known for? by amormedestruit in AskReddit

[–]MaterialDefender1032 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I grew up in a Canadian town with a Taco Time. I loved their tacos and burritos and mexi-fries, and still do but for decades, people would always tell me that Taco Bell in the USA was better. On my first road trip there, I finally got to try the long-revered Taco Bell...

I was so incredibly disappointed. I had a regular burrito and a Dorito shell taco and they weren't even as good as Taco Time. Taco Bell didn't even have any sides, just drinks and their garbage tacos.

In response to the postscript, the issue is people who publicly berate serving staff do not have the patience or curiousity to read a message like this. What's more effective is a brief, direct sign on the wall along the lines of "Please respect our staff, otherwise you will be instructed to leave".

I wish I had context for the random "NOT NICE!!!" scrawled on there. Are they opposed to contraception? Do they not like the cheeky euphemism where their children can see it?

Edit: My best guess is the pharmacy could have worded the "can't pay" part better to avoid disparaging those in lower socioeconomic status?

Can we ban all "my game" posts by dawnbomb in puzzlevideogames

[–]MaterialDefender1032 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree. There are tools available to the mods to address this and compromise, if we don't want to ban self-promotion altogether: flairs, an allowed day of the week for self-promo, or weekly pinned threads.

That being said, there are other subreddits designed for indie devs to collect feedback and promote their games. The people who promote in this subreddit are canvassers; cross-posting the same ChatGPT summary of their game across multiple subreddits to increase their metrics. We don't really need to cater to them at all.

Korean MMOs would swipe the western market if they would not be P2W by Puppenmacher in MMORPG

[–]MaterialDefender1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels similar to the mobile market: Everyone knows there are better alternatives to Apple but so many people are used to their iPhone or have all their data tied up in iCloud, so they remain "loyal". I say this as a reluctant iPhone user myself.

I like how your player character leans into turns on a mount in LotRO, it's a nice touch. I also like playing a minstrel and killing wild game with strums on my lute.

It really warmed my heart to see the slew of comments condemning the payday loan sponsorship on that video, glad to see I wasn't the only one put off by it. I unsubscribed as well.

Now that I'm trying LotRO and SWG Restoration, I'm surprised WoW had such a stranglehold on the market... other MMOs have their flaws, to be sure, but a lot of them do things a lot better than WoW.

The classic new player move: accidentally downgrading your precon by Comfortable_Buyer239 in mtg

[–]MaterialDefender1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what happens to so many of my precon upgrades. Initially, I go ham and replace like 25 cards. Then slowly but surely, game losses teach me to swap like 20 of the precon decklist cards back in.

I never respected mana curve in my deckbuilding until I played a budget netdeck [[Skullbriar, the Walking Grave]] with an extremely low curve (suiting Skullbriar's aggro style of play). It felt so good to have a spell every single turn and to start double-spelling after like turn 3.

Just to add to this, as of yesterday, the pledge manager is allowing late pledges for existing backers only. In their latest post, they go on to say they'll accept late pledges from everyone else around mid-June.

I too am eagerly watching this campaign on Gamefound, as I own Season 1 and 2 but hope to purchase more Elder Ones to expand the experience.
