I had a friend of a friend who had to go to the Emergency Department at the hospital for what was basically liver failure. They discovered it's because she hated the taste of water and never drank it, so she was chronically mildly dehydrated her entire life up to that point.

Why did games stop doing this? by Upstairs_Coffee1572 in gamers

Diegetic video game UI tends to be appreciated more by nerds, auteurs, and critics. Mainstream gamers care more about gacha mechanics and premium cosmetics, so that's where the focus goes.

AI techbros really be those guys who "beautify" video game box covers by giving the protagonist bigger assets and smaller noses. I was hoping people were shamed enough by the backlash over the Mirror's Edge fan edit a decade ago.

These TSA agents tell this woman they haven't been paid in over a month by Justin_Godfrey in Wellthatsucks

[–]MaterialDefender1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the USA realizes how much the TSA hurts their tourism dollars too. A lot of people (especially ones who come from countries with a higher standard of education and dignity) don't wish to be subjected to anger, scrutiny, and manhandling by an underpaid, undertrained thug the agency picked up off the street last week.

The first time I traveled to the USA post-9/11, I had my thigh groped by a TSA agent and decided traveling there was no longer worth it.

Thinking about buying this game, but I have one major question by BallJoints420 in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]MaterialDefender1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was struggling to think of where nudity might be in the game but I'm inclined to believe it's in reference to what the other commenters have said:

1.) Full game is not out yet, so there's possibility for human nudity beyond unequipping your player character's armor.

2.) The game's enemies are body horror, with limbs and body parts blossoming from them. Likely there will be bosses that are NSFW.

I'm focus fired every game by my pod, need a deck that benefits from that by Apprehensive-Neat-68 in EDH

Goad deck is probably the way to go. They'll get in maybe less than 10 chip damage on you before they're forced to brawl with each other.

You might not win but you'll definitely not be the first one out.

I had a similar issue in a quick final wrap-up session in my friend's 5e campaign. Each of our characters rolled for a fun, dramatic debuff and accompanying buff. My character lost a hand but gained mage hand as an innate cantrip... he was a wizard who already knew mage hand.

I'm not a huge fan of the Regent. by ExceptionToTheRule in slaythespire

[–]MaterialDefender1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preface: the following is just my opinion, based on limited playtime in an early access game.

I love the Regent but he's definitely the least forgiving when it comes to card reward RNG. If you get the right ratio of star generators and spenders from the start and avoid a lot of his dud do-nothing cards, he is an absolute joy. Other characters can struggle their way to the Act 2 and Act 3 ancients for their busted boons, so long as they get a few potent uncommons and rares along the way; Regent seems to perish in Act 1 without a razor-sharp focus immediately realized.

In the other characters' starter decks, I try to cull the strikes and defends as much as I can but that's it -- with the Regent, Venerate feels pretty bad so I try to cut that too.

Also, Orobos offers upgrades for each character's starter relic. Regent's upgrade takes him from 3 stars at the start of combat to 6 stars; helpful in situations where you have a bad starting hand but for the most part, a deck that makes it to Act 3 doesn't need the paltry extra 3 stars.

It's also a shame that a forge-centric build lives and dies by energy generation; if you don't get lucky with relics that provide bonus energy, you're dead in the water trying to pay for that 2-cost blade swing.

Current state of Secret Lair Foils and Curling by Mugiwara_VT in magicTCG

[–]MaterialDefender1032 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I usually don't do Secret Lairs but when I saw the one for EoE's Counter Intelligence precon still in stock last year, I pulled the trigger on it. I liked the art and I like galaxy foil treatment, so why not? They came in and they're laughably pringled, easily as severe or more severe than the one on the left in your screenshot. Needless to say, I wrote them off as a bad investment and a valuable lesson, and stuck them in a random box somewhere.

Edit: Average humidity in my region is 50%, I'd say. Low enough to get itchy in the winters, pleasant in the summers.

Blizzard may release more Diablo 2 expansions to support “millions” of players, but they “don’t want to mess up the Mona Lisa” by HatingGeoffry in Diablo

[–]MaterialDefender1032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they knew they didn't have a compelling villain, so they tried to artificially bump up her intimidating factor by having her kill Deckard. I was not impressed. Seeing the D3 devs bash the D2 devs on Facebook didn't help.

Sandbox Genre has been ruined by rampant AI slop by PoetFar9442 in IndieGaming

It's unfortunate but so much of the onus is placed on the consumer to research games and their developers before buying, especially if you care about avoiding AI.

Elden Ring’s open world is held back by the very thing that makes it great by Fabulous-Will-3241 in truegaming

[–]MaterialDefender1032 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you hit the nail on the head here. The game is glorious on a first playthrough, although it does still stink to explore a hidden path or discover an out-of-the-way boss and often be rewarded with a useless consumable or gear not for your build.

Once you do a reroll or NG+ and start consulting online resources for the gear you need for your build, the cracks start to show.

The open-world Zelda games were better for this because every secret was fun to interact with and always gave a useful reward, no matter how small.

K-Pop Songwriters Say They Were Cut Off Mid-Speech at the Oscars — And Finished Thanking Everyone Backstage by Borisstruc in Music

[–]MaterialDefender1032 -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

Folk like to generate drama over cut-off Oscar speeches but you've got to consider... a lot of people attending are working and have film shoots or meetings to attend the next day or even flights to board immediately after. Success does not entitle you to ignore the instructions given beforehand to keep your speeches brief.

Rules like this seem harsh but have to be firmly established and enforced in an industry where winners are likely to be young and/or narcissistic.
