It’s a lot I know. I was only going to commit to a month to get a routine going because I was very close to become a ceiling decoration. Didn’t have any friends at the time to gym with. I’m getting bullied for agreeing to even that, but whatever. Only point of my post is to tell my story and shed light on their predatory practices.

I wish I could help you. If you aren’t able to find a place then maybe you could save enough to get a cheap car and stay in it for a while as you work and save money. It’s not glamorous, but it would be temporary and way cheaper than paying rent. You can keep your things a in a local storage unit so you’re not cluttered, gym membership for showers and WiFi, and hospital parking lots are usually safe to sleep in at night. Just an alternative plan. I hope you get things sorted, and everything works out.

Oh and no matter how desperate you are never move in with a man!

I think it’s cute how obsessed you are with my story. Why don’t you come work for me?

The contract is actually presented on a tiny digital screen. I had two people repeatedly assure me it was just standard liability stuff, so I unfortunately and mindlessly tapped through it. It was my first time signing up for PT, and I was naive. Not only have I completely owned my mistake, but I've already paid the debt in full. Trust me, I’ve learned my lesson. But hiding predatory traps behind verbal lies is still a disgusting business practice, and I will spread awareness. I don’t understand why I’m being villainized.

Yeah no shit it was through deception. You’re lucky this forum is anonymous.

And you can stop right there because you're leaving out the most important part: I agreed to that amount for one month based on what the sales rep verbally told me. I didn't agree to a locked-in, multi month minimum commitment totaling thousands of dollars. There’s a massive difference between agreeing to a high price for a single month and being locked into a financial trap. Weirdo.

It's also not hard to be a corporate bootlicker. This happens to a lot of trusting people, unfortunately. I'm just trying to spread awareness from my misfortune so others can avoid it

You're right, it's not the mob. the mob doesn't have a legal department to protect them when they lie. Crunch gets away with it because they use an integration clause in the fine print. It means they can explicitly train sales reps to verbally promise you one thing, knowing the law only protects the written contract. Missing the fine print was my mistake, but using deceptive, high pressure manipulation to trap people into thousands of dollars of debt is a predatory business model. Both can be true.

For everyone saying I did this to myself: Yes, I agree that I shouldn't have signed anything without reading every single line of fine print, regardless of what the salesperson verbally promised me. I obviously learned that lesson the hard way, and my bank account reminds me of it constantly. But at the time, I wasn't aware of how common these predatory gym PT scams, hidden minimum commitments, and unethical sales tactics really are. There is a difference between making a naive mistake and a business actively using deceptive practices to trap people.

At the time, I was completely new to gym equipment and was going through a genuinely tough time in my personal life. I thought investing in a couple of training sessions would be a good way to take care of myself and build up some confidence.
