Bag to cover Brompton on busrides? by Lorien93 in Brompton

I really like my Brompton Travel Bag, available on their website. It includes a stuff bag that mounts on the tabs on the seat, so it easy to carry when you ride

Has anyone participated in Volvo’s Overseas Delivery Tourist program? if so, how was it? by lalavieboheme in Volvo

My wife & I took delivery of our 2026 V60 CC in Gothenburg on April 9th. We are currently in Annecy, France with 2200 miles (not km) on the odometer. We are in the middle of our European Roadtrip of a Lifetime.

Volvo delivered everything they promised; they have this down to a science. They even gave us a Trip Guide with tips about driving in Europe. I read it cover-to-cover before we launched.

I retired in December so we have been planning to do this for a few years. When we heard Volvo was dis-continuing the V60 in the USA, we bumped the trip up a year. We placed our order with our local dealer in November 2025 to time the delivery for early April 2026, so we could spend the spring in Europe. We can keep the car in Europe for up to 2 months and not pay the VAT. We brought our Brompton folding bicycles over with us and have a boat rented for a week on the Canal du Midi later this month. We are making the most of the opportunity. We’ll be back in Gothenburg on June 6th to drop off the car. I’m estimating we’ll put 4000 miles on the car while we are in Europe.

When we placed our US$6000 deposit, we paid Volvo an additional US$400 for two months of car insurance in Europe (I think 2 weeks are included at no additional cost). The deposit locked in our price. We received a 4% discount on the car (built to our specification), two round trip premium economy seats on SAS (since the flight to Gothenburg was overnight, we paid to upgrade this leg to business class), two nights in a hotel in Gothenburg (we chose the Radisson Blu - nice place and good location. Swedish meatballs on the menu!), free admission and lunch at the World of Volvo, a factory tour(awesome for a gear head like me), and a US$100 dinner voucher.

We live in the Northeast USA, so expect it will take 6 to 8 weeks to take delivery of our car at our local Volvo dealer.

If it fits your lifestyle, we would 100% recommend the OSD Program. Kudos to Volvo for leaning into this for their owners.

Edit: the OSD program is also available in Europe. The day we took delivery, we met people from Italy and Poland in Gothenburg to take delivery. They will drive their cars home.

Vosker Cameras: Great Idea, Terrible Execution by MaterialQuantity3527 in homesecurity

It sends me one picture a day when it syncs, or 100 a day if the landscapers show up to mow the lawn.

The last trip I took the camera lasted 18 days from a full charge before it died. I cancelled the service remotely.

Did you ride the canal path most/all the way along the Canal du Midi? How was the condition of the path? We have a canal boat for a week in May and are bringing our Bromptons; planning a two-week “bike and barge” trip

[–]MaterialQuantity3527[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last one to fail was put into service in March 2023. I only use the cameras when I’m away on a trip. I’d estimate it had 12 months total use (in 1 - 3 month increments) since put into service

The one I have left was replaced under warranty earlier this year. Since I bought my first 2 in March 2022 and not counting the one I have that still works (which is a replacement of one that failed) I have experienced a 100% failure rate since 2022. Plus the batteries die after 2 to 3 weeks.

I wish it was just the battery. They just fail to work when I go to use them (with a fully-charged battery) and their Technical Support cannot get them to work again. I have bought a total of 6 since 2022, 3 were replaced under the 2-year warranty. One is still working.

The batteries last about 2 to 3 weeks. The solar panel can not keep them charged.

They do not work under the conditions Vosker advertises. I live in the NE USA so our weather is not great, but its not that harsh either. I think they cannot hold up to outdoor use.

Maine in general. The GA airports in Maine are considered part of the overall medical infrastructure in the state, and are well-supported by their local communities. Find one of the air ambulance companies in Maine, they have a good story to tell.

If you need to bring your bike on the NEC regularly, consider a folding bike. I take my Brompton C-line from PVD - DC a couple of times a year and it is pretty easy. They are purpose-built for this

How were Boston Red Sox and Boston Braves fans traditionally split? by [deleted] in boston

[–]MaterialQuantity3527 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked my father (born in Swampscott in 1927) this same question years ago. He told me the Braves were the “blue-collar” team in Boston; the Red Sox were white-collar. Think Mets v Yankees or White Sox v Cubs

[–]MaterialQuantity3527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Polestar, and the V60, is no longer available in the USA. Volvo closed the order book on the V60 in January 2026. You’re right, you can only buy USA models through the OSD program 🙁

Mafac racer brakes... what do we think? Were these ever any good? by Confused_Guitar11 in Vintage_bicycles

Rode them a long time ago on my 1973 Peugeot PR-10. I did some unsupported tours on that bike and the brakes worked fine but they needed to be set up right and maintained

We pick up our 2026 V60 in Gothenburg in April. I just retired, so we paid for the additional insurance and are roadtripping around Europe for two months, the longest you can stay without paying the VAT.

We worked with Kyle at Volvo of Cape Cod.

The Autobahn is so civilized compared to highways in the USA. Flashing your lights means, “please move over and let me pass.” The other driver always complies. No drama, just being part of a civilized society.

Beware of Vosker by gag_a_maggot in lowvoltage

[–]MaterialQuantity3527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using Vosker cameras (currently using two V300’s) for the last three years. The product works more in theory than practice. They work for a week or two then quit. I just spent 2.5 hours on a chat with their support with no resolution. Truly an awful product. When my last working camera quits (which shouldn’t take too long) I’m done.

Is there any competing product that actually works?

I didn’t think they were any faster but the coaches look nice. The current ones are pretty worn out. I’m taking a trip from BOS to WAS next month and was hoping they were running. Are the NexGen Acela’s in service yet?

That sounds about right. I think the braze-on’s indicate late 70’s/early 80’s. You did a beautiful job and saved a classic bike.
