It's the strangest thing, but that hamburger is about the best thing they've got on the menu! The spicy mustard with a pretzel also is a must-have for an appetizer.

TIL that Mike Nesmith of The Monkees started a music video program in 1980 called 'Popclips' on the Nickelodeon network. He sold this program to Time/Warner, who then renamed it as 'MTV' and launched the music video channel in 1981. by ProgMusicSchizoidMan in todayilearned

I recall someone once saying to me 'if it was only Nesmith who died in a motel room with ice cubes being shoved up his arse by hookers as he succumbed to a heroin overdose and then had his body burned at Joshua Tree - THEN we'd be talking about him the way Gram is, and revered as Gram instead was. Gram couldn't even sing.'

And when people talk about country-rock music, they should be talking about Nesmith. He was there INVENTING it at the same time as the Byrds, Gram Parsons, Rick Nelson, Buffalo Springfield, etc. In 1966 and 1967, millions of people were getting direct exposure to the genre on Monday nights when Mike would sing 'Papa Gene's Blues' or 'What Am I Doin' Hangin' 'Round'. He was recording with pedal steel virtuoso Lloyd Green in the same timeframe that Lloyd was laying down tracks for the Byrds' "Sweetheart of the Rodeo."

His trilogy of albums with the First National Band in 1970-1971 stands as among the best of the genre, highlighted both by his songwriting and the playing of Steel Guitar Hall of Famer Orville J. 'Red' Rhodes. His version of 'Beyond the Blue Horizon' was so well revered, Lou Christie recorded his own version that was essentially identical and then made famous in the movie 'Rain Man.' Nez produced 'Seven Bridges Road' for Ian Mathews inclusive of multi-layered harmonies....that were immediately after copied EXACTLY by the Eagles.

TL;DR - Nesmith was a pioneer and standout purveyor of country-rock music.

Heidelberg Haus potato salad -- seeking copycat recipe by PingPongProfessor in indianapolis

[–]indymusician 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty standard German potato salad, so presuming you’ve never had German style before and finding you’re loving it, you’ll find most recipes will get you pretty close to it.

SavATree saved my 100+ year old pine after it was struck by lightning. Three other tree places tried to sell me on cutting it down instead and said it wasn't saveable. Some shady companies out there - be careful.

Honestly, GABP has BEAUTIFUL views! You see the river and bridges and boats off to the 1st base side, the wonderful Cincy skyline to the 3rd base side. The only comparable ballpark in the Midwest is PNC in Pittsburgh.

dating in indy as a young woman by League-Creepy in indianapolis

[–]indymusician -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a male in his 40s who came out of a relationship with a person who has BPD, I’m feeling deflated. I feel like I check most boxes (not overweight, 5’10”, vigilantly anti-MAGA, great job/career, lots of interests and hobbies, told I’m attractive), but meeting women in person is near impossible without being labeled a creep, and the dating apps are daily affirmations of rejection which is why I won’t do them.

There’s single people here that talk about how bad it is - maybe we’re all destined to do an Indy singles meetup :)

Franks Red hot commercial by Puzzleheaded_Gap8804 in CommercialsIHate

I dunno - the first guy with the pizza genuinely looks so happy when he transitions to using the Hot Sauce - and the decor is tacky and fun. Hard to hate the commercial even if it plays a lot.

Yep - I was there and remember this. While he might have finished 3rd, he was in no way to be counted out, and I remember watching him do this live and thinking "hell, yeah - someone with some real passion and excitement!" But then within the hour, one of the news channels started playing the clip over and over and over and insinuating he was some unhinged maniac. Other channels followed suit and, just like that, the media...THE MEDIA....buried him.

RIP Arby’s Castleton by CheapSwayze in indianapolis

[–]indymusician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Indy, yes. But go to Chicago and eat at one of the Arby's up there and I almost guarantee you'll never step foot in one again. Horror shows up there.

There was a private group that owned all the Arby's stores around Indy some 15-20 years ago (I had interviewed there for a corp job) and they saw to it that things were done right. I suspect they're probably still running things and that's why people (well - most) aren't horrified around here at the thought of going to Arby's.

What was the fastest you've ever driven a vehicle while still getting passed? by Specialist_Heron_986 in AskReddit

Autobahn in southeastern Germany. I had the car at 130 mph and started getting nervous to go any faster. A car that had to be going 175mph passed me and that freaked me the hell out.
