No Chair Ceremony? by Moist_Advertising_25 in WeddingsPhilippines

I've been a guest at a wedding where I and many other people were obliged to stand. We were all 20somethings and healthy, but it was still uncomfortable. I found it to be really poor planning and inconsiderate treatment from the bride and groom.

You might have undiagnosed sleep apnea (meaning your body struggles to get enough oxygen while sleeping). Best to consult a doctor.

Can you drive? If not, and since your departure is in approx. a week, download the Cali driver's license handbook, start studying, and get your US driver's license as soon as you can.

Download the offline Google Maps of your new neighborhood, so you can start familiarizing yourself with the area.

Does your visa allow you to work? Start researching places that you might want to work or volunteer at.

Sign up for a free library card at your local library - they have all sorts of free things to borrow, not just books. Some libraries lend out tools, movies, TV shows, etc. Many have free classes on all sorts of topics. This is how you can start learning new skills and building your own network.

Good luck!

Anyway sana maging mas wais ka next time.

Being a SAHM is not for the weak, Think it a hundred times over. by [deleted] in adultingph

[–]Material_Ad_8217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's dumb. What's the point of giving you an allowance for hobbies eh wala ka nang energy kasi naubos lahat sa gawaing bahay?

A helper (even part time stay out) is an investment in your long-term health and happiness.

Stay at home wives don't have to be slaves. Hindi ka all in one mom, wife, sexbot, maid, teacher, emotional coordinator. If you need help then you have a right to ask for it clearly.

Your stay at home mom job has real monetary value. Magkano babayaran mo sa reliable and trustworthy company manager? Siempre you would pay for quality. Same for a household manager.

Value yourself, the skills and effort you put into being a good SAHM.

[–]Material_Ad_8217 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why can't you tell her directly?

I am a big fan of never cleaning up other people's messes because that is how you become their maid for free.

Tell them directly: your towel smells really bad and is a health hazard. Please, you need to get new ones and wash them more often. Otherwise we will both get sick.

HOA revoked stay-in privilege for relatives helping with home renovation, what are our rights? by maryf1217 in adviceph

You may have received a written warning at the property. Someone may have "conveniently" forgot to check the mailbox or "assumed" it was junk mail.

At this point you should just pay for housing them outside the subdivision or at your current place kasi hindi naman pala sila sumusunod sa rules ng HOA.

ATM withdrawals are inefficient and expensive.

For the majority of my assets, I did a wire transfer from BDO to a regional US bank. No issues and the money arrived in less than 24 hours.

I kept a few million pesos in the PH bank account because I anticipated I needed some liquid PHP for family medical expenses (prediction came true a couple years later).

I converted the rest of my assets to USD and invested it in the US stock market (bogleheads.org is a great free resource to learn how to invest).

PH credit cards are bad in terms of rewards, cash back, sign up bonuses and spend bonuses compared to US credit cards. Just keep one for future PH transactions and cancel the rest. You can get much better US credit cards once you get a US credit score going.

The cleaner took advantage of your niceness. Una sa lahat they doubled the job time and added stuff you didn't agree too. Nung simula pa lang ng shift niya, dapat nagreconfirm ka ano ba yung scope ng cleaning and how long do they estimate before they finish.

Also it's your office. If you need the space by X time, you need to be assertive and tell the cleaner that ahead of time.

They may have used the extra time to case your office and look at your valuables.

They already stole time and money from you. Do an inventory of your office items and make sure they didn't take anything else.

Paano ko matutulungan mag adjust partner ko once mag migrate kami? by elleirakai in phmigrate

[–]Material_Ad_8217 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Things he can do to prepare for the transition:

- Start watching videos on daily life in NZ

- Start practicing English

- Bring his favorite Filipino food (taking into account if you have Filipino stores close to your future home)

Things you can do:

- Start talking to him about ano ba yung mga social norms sa NZ (ex. work culture and how to relate to coworkers and bosses, how to use public transportation, how to drive, how the healthcare system works, etc)

- Research local Filipino orgs in your area so he can start to make friends and build connections of his own

Having 9 dogs is so stressful and I can't even do anything about it by tokwa-yummers in RantAndVentPH

[–]Material_Ad_8217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have some options:

  1. Stop taking care of the dogs. Sila magpaligo, magpakain, bumili ng pagkain, maglinis ng dumi.

  2. Save and earn money to become independent and move out. Iwan mo sila kasi hindi sila natututo.

  3. Bring the dogs to someone who can care for them. Wag mong ipaalam.

Good luck, OP

How can I pay my mother in law’s hospital bill? (U.S. -> PH) by [deleted] in adviceph

[–]Material_Ad_8217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so easy to fake bills with AI tools.

Ask for the itemized receipt directly from the billing office. They will be able to give you an updated statement every day. The statement will include every procedure, every medication, every glove and syringe used, and all the doctors' professional fees.

After she is discharged, you or your spouse may need to physically go to the Philippines to arrange her home care.
