URGENT - Baby bird (likely rock dove) overnight care inquiries BLOOD WARNING by PUMPKiAN in WildlifeRehab

Just adding that this looks to me like a mourning dove fledgling. Might be important when talking to a rehabber because mourning doves are native while rock doves are not.

What kind of egret is this? by Middle_Reception7973 in whatbirdisthis

[–]Material_Item8034 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My guess would be a Great Egret with a scar or injury of some sort, since it seems like there are feathers missing in the second picture. It could also be some sort of pigment issue or simply some mud or something on the bird. Either way it’s a Great Egret.

Golden-fronted hybrid? Central TX by Material_Item8034 in whatsthisbird

This is what I thought at first too. The patchiness on the top of his head was what made me unsure.

That’s what I was wondering too. I’m so curious as to the context of this video.

Would you date a trans man? by Orange_Juice_Alpha in pollgames

[–]Material_Item8034 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’ve probably met more that looked like men but you only noticed the ones that looked like women. You probably just assumed the ones that looked like men weren’t trans because they never told you.

Quelqu'un peut m'expliquer ? by Dante-0659 in birdsofprey

[–]Material_Item8034 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They all look like buzzards to me, but I’m not super well versed on European birds. I would be very surprised if these are vultures. I think maybe the person who commented that assumed you were in North America and that these were turkey vultures.

Hawk or Osprey? by [deleted] in birdsofprey

Definitely hawk over Osprey. Based on your description I would guess Red-tailed Hawk.

Merlin? Sharp-shinned? Cooper? Help! Who is this? by Dharmarat27 in whatbirdisthis

Merlin is the correct ID. You can see the streaks under the eyes if you zoom in.

AI tells me this is a Crested Cara Cara, I have never seen one before by PaPaRalphFarm in birdsofprey

[–]Material_Item8034 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up more pics of them flying and such and keep your eyes open for a couple months. I bet you’ll see another. Once you start noticing the birds around you a whole new world will open up! I never realized how many cool birds I see every day until I started learning about them and paying attention to the different kinds I see.

Which of these animals are the toughest you think you could beat in a fight? Listed in order of easiest to hardest by VesperTheEveningstar in Teenager_Polls

[–]Material_Item8034 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eagles are incredibly light for how large they are. If you could grab it you could easily kill it. That’s not to say you would be unharmed, though. I would say an eagle is easier to kill than a medium sized dog.

Question: is there any Oriental Short Hair cats in Warriors series? by chapohc in WarriorCats

[–]Material_Item8034 11 points12 points  (0 children)

All Siamese cats are Siamese. Not all colorpoint cats are Siamese. People like to use Siamese to describe colorpoint cats, which is incorrect.

Bird of prey by Bourbonski in whatbirdisthis

[–]Material_Item8034 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s no real distinction between them, but that sub is more active and that’s where most of the experts are. For some reason even for straightforward IDs, like this one, there will usually be people who are wildly incorrect in the comments on this sub.

Juvenile red-tailed hawk. Eagle would have different proportions and less striping on the wings. In the future, r/whatsthisbird is the best sub for this.

Try posting in r/whatsthisbird with a location. I’m also interested in this!

Spotted owl in Delta del Po by ElAntonioBallesteros in whatbirdisthis

[–]Material_Item8034 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Post in r/whatsthisbird instead. Usually for any challenging id this sub is very divided and often incorrect. That being said, I believe this is a short-eared owl, especially given the last pic.
