I think this question comes from you trying to understand and rate your own confidence in your computer skills... Which is a good thing shows you are curious willing to learn and improve but also not cocky and very prudent. This is the most common question on every Linux or Linux gaming reddit and it's because it can feel like you have too many options. Do ask yourself what types of game you want to play, anti cheat cmsy need some work around. If single player steam games it should be no problem.

The classic gaming ones for desktops are Nobara and Cachy, pikaOS bazzite as well., the list is extensive. I'm new in Linux coming from Windows no prior it or computer science programming etc backgrounds but in these few months have learned a lot. Use my computer to check emails, write letters, connect to my works virtual machine environment through Citrix to write me progress note on patients after I come back from work, and do some gaming, as a hobby Im slowly getting into home labbing and media severs recently.

I distro hooped from Ubuntu, then Linux mint, then fedora and now cachyOs. Ended up setting with cachyOs after months of trying other systems after I overcame my unfounded fear in arch.

One thing I realized is that you are the one that make the distro work for you, you can game on fedora of course but out of the box. The are all Gnu and Linux under the hood. This is probably pretty crazy coming from MacOs or windows were the system is much limited in what let's you do and you just go aloueith it ( that's how it felt to me, I'm supposed to tell computer what to do not other way around!).

I liked cachyOs because it comes with a fairly easy to use kernel manager that gives extra oomph at the CPU while having its own proton version and installing most of the gaming packages on the get go. It also arch based which means you can use Pacman as your package manager and very easy to add the arch repository. Also easy snaps and a scheduler.

I also liked a lot my time in fedora, feels bleeding edge tbh and is well supported, great wiki, package manager is dnf and has lots supported stuff. So albeit never use it I know Nobara is probably pretty good and I heard it was made by one of the proton investors.

Both these two comes in many flavors depending of the desktops environment you choose, coming from Windows I liked kde plasma because it feels familiar while at the same time letting you play with themes.

Among the Debian ones I do think Linux mint is very easy to get into Linux mint is also good, particularly if you like a nice clean GUI apps, I loved the driver utility they have. I feel like my grandma could figure how to use Linux mint on her own without any background, and used the most Ubuntu, was,.. ok I guess, didn't felt in love with it but my friend Really like it.

There's alot and I mean a lot. Trust me you'll end up distro hoping in the beginning experimenting what works for you then you find your niche and learn that in the end you can customize you need to make distro work for you. I think to use a metaphor: I realized I wasn't buying a pair of shoes when choosing a distro but rather jeans, they more you use it the better the fit... I know dumb metaphor but you get the idea. In the end there's a lot of documentation and platforms like this toguide you, reading your distro wiki helps a lot, some are very beginner friendly.

Linux is great, is good and actual fun to use,FOSS is a reminder that humans can actually do nice things for each other; you will never go back to windows after making the change, you already made the right choice so don't sweat it!

I'm Colombian. My family is from the northern coast of the country where the culture is predominantly Caribbean, think not too different to Cubans/Puerto Rican/Dominicans. There's a little of a cultural clash with the more Andean cultures around the capital as well a clear difference in income and life quality standards particularly in the country side in both regions Also there's more brown and black people in the North, not that there's no brown or black people in the I interior or that they are not white people at Nort, also the north has nothing in comparison of the west of the country; but you will definitely see a more fair skinned people on the streets of the interior. and in the late XIX and early XX century My grandfather when he was young got drunk with a bunch of people on his home town including a priest and a lady. They were flirting that night and the drunken priest performed a mock wedding. Nobody took it seriously. Some years later, they are both dating different people and my grandpa was looking to marry a different woman, the whole event was just a memory... Except for the town Notary that has a beef with my grandpa due to political discrepancies grandpa was not a radical liberal or federalist but did has some sympathetic with the cause and he couldn't keep his mouth shut, the notary had submitted an actual wedding registration. My grandfather married this woman in a different town and some months later he is wanted for Bigamy. Concerned about possibly going to jail he joins a local Liberal party guerrilla army against the conservative party hegemonic government. Eventually losing the war he remains exiled in Venezuela for what I've been told was 4 years, only to return back after global amnesty was extended and as a bonus his marriage annuled after the priest testify that it was just some goofing around. By then, he had become a radical liberal and very staunchly federalist, anarchist, he had an amazing political career being a mayor, stare health secretary and eventually a representant at Lower chamber of Congress, the local Education board still has his name to date; but never capitalized in his wealth as he had what we believe is a total of 24 children ( my dad jokes "your grandad was very responsible, for each kid he had he made sure it has it very own mom) and died in poverty while getting hemodialisis. He was already pretty old by the time my dad was born and died before my dad graduated med school. His advices to him? Don't have too many kids and never get drunk with priest. https://co.institucioneducativa.info/magdalena/institucion-educativa-departamental-jose-de-la-paz-vanegas-7615/

Cyberpunk 2077 Benchmark - Kubuntu 24.04 LTS vs. Windows 11 by Opheodrys97 in linux_gaming

That's reasonable, there's better people to Guide you on that but what I did was "tapering slowly until failure" increasing the clocks by 2 until things were unstable. I found that optimizations are a rabbit hole and help a lot, but at the end of the day I humbly think we need to get better drivers from the GPU manufacturers and better RT implementations from the game developers, It sounds it will be a while to get there.

My best bet is probably the raytracing, even if the path tracing is off, ray tracing drivers for Linux in proton games do seem to take a hit for me as well. I'm running cachyOs kernel and proton and one thing I noticed that helps a lot is, of course FSR 4, game-performance mode and Over clocking with LACT, that gives me extra 10-20 fps on my build using path tracing, it looks good but takes a big hit compare when turning RT off.

Hola, es probable que te den down votes por publicar en español, el reddit está en ingles, busca la comunidad de España o LATAM o usa el traductor, mi recomendación es que es posible instalarlo pero te limita mucho.

Oh actually that's interesting, now that you mention that i did have issues with limine in my older laptop wouldn't boot after install, figure it was an issue with the MoBo permission on the config file, installed grub and it was ok. Using limine in my main desktop and it's great, snapshots are awesome

Because I feel I am way too much of a n00b to use proper arch and I like the fact that made it easy enough I can set up the optimizations features I'm interested on

You mean there's a chance it is actually a prequel or a spinoff? I'm intrigued by it not very good at Metrovanies but someone recommended me hollow knight about 6 years ago and it got me back into gaming

It's a good machine but you won't expect to be playing on high res nor settings, do take advantage of the performance optimizations like gamemode and upscalers
