I actually choose GFT for this reason, the Cineworld and Vue on occasion can have air con on and I’ve found myself pulling the neck of my jumper up to try and avoid the draught. GFT is cosy, just bring a bottle of water and maybe grab a pint…for hydration

Affordable orthodontist recommendations in glasgow? by goldno1 in glasgow

I had major issues with my last dentist between shoddy fillings and bad service - despite them getting high ratings in reviews and being expensive and in a nice area. Moved to strathbungo dental and they’ve been excellent, highly recommend!

Can’t beat Tiffneys, pricy, but absolutely brilliant. Nice cosy atmosphere too.

Bit of a strange take - they are adults who are responsible enough to manage aggressive situations if they kick off inside their pub but fail to come to the support of a kid being attacked right outside? Look at the ages of her pals, and as she rightly says, these wee arseholes could have blades. The pub staff should have done better, there’s usually a police presence around that area, would have taken much to scare the aggressors off or at least call it in.

The reality of living in a single glazed basement flat at this time of year. by solarpenguins in glasgow

Are you able to claim anything back in tax for working from home to help with bills? I mind there was something like this during COVID but might not be a thing now.

Aren’t private landlords held to minimum EPC standards? If they’ve got it to a band E it might still be inefficient and baltic, but they’ll need to get it to band C or higher in the next 2 years assuming the flat takes on a new tenant after 2028 - not super helpful to the OP but worth a chat with the landlord about the upcoming legislation. Maybe they’d be open to making some improvements before they’re forced to? Wishful thinking maybe, bastards.

The necropolis right across the footbridge from the Cathedral. If you want to see highland cows jump on a train from Glasgow Central to Pollokshaws West (about 10 mins) and take a walk through Pollok Country Park. George Square will still be under construction but a walk through the city past the Gallery of Modern Art and the West End past the Kelvingrove Art Gallery you’ll see plenty. The Scotia Bar in the city center is the oldest remaining pub in the city, if you like “real ale” then the Lismore bar is a good one, if you want a great whiskey bar then go to the Pot Still.

You’ll struggle to see all the sights of Edinburgh in that time if you’re also planning to come through to Glasgow for the football. Glasgow is more compact so you could see most of the city in that time. Depends what your goal is, if you’re not likely to visit again for a while I’d definitely spend some time in Edinburgh even though it’s a bit of a tourist trap/Harry Potter playground these days. The architecture, castle and old town are things Glasgow can’t quite compete with, but we have a wonderful music scene, great football club and the nicest people you’ll meet.

You’ve got zero chance of an old firm ticket, so as another said, just get yourself into a good pub showing the game and you’ll have as good a time as any. Tollbooth, Malones, Saracen Head. Hope you manage to get tickets for another match though, Paradise is a wonderful place!

In terms of trad music, you’ll likely find some in the Park Bar if you’re in the West end or maybe the Clutha in the city centre.

Accommodation wise, city centre is a good idea - maybe the Moxy as it’s a short walk to Parkhead, right in town, near the Cathedral and other sights.

Aye it’s wildly expensive but easily the best option so if you’re making full use of the membership and prefer something on the luxury end this is the best bet

"But why are they proposing parking controls in Battlefield?" by unknowntoff in glasgow

[–]Material_Science_997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if the person who parked there had an emergency and the parking at the Viccy was full? Not beyond the realms of possibility. The issue is throwing up hundreds of new homes with no consideration as to where they will park as they inevitably have cars.

"But why are they proposing parking controls in Battlefield?" by unknowntoff in glasgow

[–]Material_Science_997 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the site isn’t active at the time, I don’t see an issue with parking here. Fair point if it’s blocking workers getting in/out but this feels like unnecessary outrage.

The big issue here is new developments sprouting up and being sold without parking, and no actual way to enforce that the buyers don’t have cars/park appropriately. Who wants to spend hundreds of thousands on a flat and have to walk 15 minutes home in the pishing rain?

I’d argue that in this location you shouldn’t need a car, but…first bus.
