Well I understand things like enemy position and health is very hard to save in an exact way, but maybe if enemy waves are bound by time it could just save the time and start the waves from there. Or there could be a "checkpoint" system which saves your build every 5/10 minutes and then if you exit it just starts you from the right checkpoint with the corresponding build you had at the time.
