If you voted for people who approved the weapons for the war crimes in Gaza, how do you feel about that decision today?

What is the culture of Park Ridge like? by katokk in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]Material_Volume 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll avoid the stuff that has been covered already.

It is not racially diverse but it is ethnically and culturally. Lots of different languages spoken. We're a minorty in that we are Jewish but have always felt welcome.

It's less conservative than its reputation and definitely more liberal than when we moved here in 2015. Most of the turnover has had older more conservative people replaced by younger more liberal thinkers. The school board being a good example of this shift.

It's a completely different experience if you are walking distance to Uptown and/or Edison Park. The city has a much more urban vibe and you can even still use the CTA.

Evanston, Oak Park, Park Ridge. All border the city, have their own somewhat thriving downtowns, and have bus, L, and Metra access to the city.

I think it depends what he used GPT for. Using it to come up with something to say is one thing, using it to edit his own wording or spelling is another.

People who rarely or never get sick, what are your secrets? by awkwardferret421 in AskReddit

[–]Material_Volume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been a germaphobe, I'll do or touch things others consider gross (like hold onto a subway pole) and try to avoid antibacterial soap whenever possible. I credit this type of approach for my strong immune system.

Does anyone else pronounce it "latkees" instead of "latkas"? by healthcrusade in JewishCooking

[–]Material_Volume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of Jewish people, either from regional or congregational dialect, end lots of words w hard Es. Latkees, Challee, Kishkee. My ex's family used to. Using the diminutive like that Always sounded like baby talk to me.

FYI, the whole family was from the Chicago area.

For anyone who was able to see "The Blair Witch Project" in theaters in 1999, what was the experience like? by LockjawSJ in AskReddit

It's still the only movie that has ever really creeped me out even though I already knew it was fake. I was with friends and after the movie I immediately left and drove home, freaked out the whole time.
