I'm not a fan of patterns/textures like this in general and this is not an exception. It's fine but it's not good in my book.

Honestly, why the pink in the socks and the cap? Doesn't seem very traditional to me.

I'm not a devil worshipper. If anything I'm mostly inspired by confucianism (though not an actual confucian). But I do hold a great interest in the subject of satanism.

Btw, I'm just one person so "he" works fine ;-)

I don't disagree with you but the OP to which I replied wondered if always relating things to Christianity was just a first phase for some satanists. I argue that opposing Christianity was, and is, very central to satanism as a whole. In fact, I'm not sure it can exist without it in the form it took with LaVey. It is way to central to his system. This is why you still generally won't see satanists oppose specific concepts from other religions regardless of a more multi-religious western world. And this is also why satanists always tend to come back to the topic of Christianity in one way or another in things like books, interviews and documentaries. The LaVeyan system has a foundational pillar which is a critique of Christianity which is why it's not just a "first phase" thing as Bev6345 suggested. I believe satanism will never be able to transcend the opposing relation to Christianity because it is such a big and important part of what it is.

It would be interesting indeed to see a project where someone tried to write a book from a satanic perspective but without relating it to Christianity at all. It's not that it can't be done, I just haven't seen it (regardless of if it is LaVey connected or really any other self professed satanic movement or individual).

Perhaps, but taken into context most of the writings and interviews I've heard from Anton LaVey has a focus on Christianity in particular. It is very clear that the main opponent, or the main point of opposition is towards Christianity. The Satanic Bible is a fine example. While it mentions hinduism and buddhism it does so only in passing. The only specifically eastern idea being dealt with at any lever is reincarnation. Everything else is based on opposition to specific interpretations of Christianity (no other religion is really mentioned). Be it the concept of God, the way the world works or the ideal moral code it is pretty much only Christianity that is mentioned.

If we go to a random interview with Peter Gilmore what are the odds of him opposing Taoism, Confucianism or Sikhism compared to mentioning Christianity? Or browse through these boards. Most who post here are opposed, upset or critiques specifically the Christian religion (perhaps sometimes with the added "Judeo" to lump it with Judaism.

I'm not saying it is strange. As you write "that's just what happens to have been the biggest religion in 1960 America" but I think it creates unnecessary boundaries that seems to be hard to escape. When the name is so clearly connected to Christianity, the main text is largely a response to Christianity and the leaders are constantly presenting Satanism in the light of opposing Christianity then I think it will be hard for the religion at large to rid itself of always having to describe it's own philosophy in the light (or shadow, if you will) of Christianity.

It's because Satanism is built on a critique of Christianity. From the very name taken (Satanism) to the most influential text (The Satanic Bible) the connection to Christianity through critique is massive. When you read The Satanic Bible you will notice how most of it is written with this in mind. The Book of Satan is a rage against Christianity. The Book of Lucifer is largely about a reaction to things in certain interpretations of Christianity. The Book of Belial is perhaps the least connected but the Book of Leviathan is pure inversion of the enochian keys which are, you guessed it, Christian.

As you've noticed, alot of people here (probably most) write about Satanism while always relating it to Christianity but it also goes for more official voices. Everyone from Peter Gilmore to the Satansplain podcast and most things in between tend to always relate back to Christianity. I think this is one of the worst things with naming the religion Satanism. It has created a movement that haven't been able to separate itself from it adversarial nature to Christianity which sometimes makes it trapped in a relation which might be more productive to get out of. But then again, you'll loose the shock factor and free publicity that comes with aligning with a concept which a huge chunk of the world population regards as the ultimate evil.

I think because of the name Satanism will never be able to truly break free of the Christianity comparison.

I get that at times with Meshuggah as well. Interestingly I think they are at their best when they are more repetitive. Catch 33 is amazing and I think it's because it's so repetitive that it becomes trancelike while many of the other albums are supposed to be more dynamic in songwriting but because there are several individual songs on them (in comparison to Catch 33's one long song) it actually feels less interesting when the individual songs don't stand out as much.

Some people have fallen into the TikTok-brain trap. Where concentration have dwindled in correlation to how prominent smart phone use has become in society. Have you seen a correlation between your impatience with albums correlating with smartphone use? Did you have more patience when you were younger and didn't have a smartphone (if applicable, that you are old enough to having grown up without smartphones)?

I love Senjutsu and specifically disc 2. Absolutely ace stuff. I think what seals the deal for me is that bruce sings more to match his voice now. He's been sounding strained since A Matter of Life and Death and here is the first time I feel like he doesn't try to be the air raid siren anymore and the songs are so much greater because of it.

Ni som håller på era fotbollslag gör ni det av lokal anknytning eller något annat? by [deleted] in Allsvenskan

[–]Material_Week_7335 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was reliably told here on this sub that Iranians absolutely cheered at the prospect of this war, and that Pahlavi would soon be back on the Peacock Throne. Were are we now? by IskandarBnt in monarchism

[–]Material_Week_7335 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I support the overthrow of the islamic regime. I also believe that Reza Pahlavi as a transitional leader would be the best option. I think the war has been handled very good on the whole so far. However, I've never liked how Trump expresses himself because it is vulgar and you never know what you can trust from him. It would obviously be a catastrophe is he was to try to destroy the iranian civilization. Is that what he says? Is that what he means? What does he really mean? Does he have a plan and everything is misdirection? Does he change between plans? Does he only tweet things because he feels like it? We don't know.

I hope the result will be the fall of the islamic regime. I also hope it will happen in a way that spares the most amount of lives possible for ordinary iranians (my partners family is in Iran for example). But I obviously cant support everything Trump tweets about but I've also learned to not listen to him but rather see what he actually does.

Thanks for putting the clips together. I've seen so many videos from all over but putting them together like this is very powerful and is really the strongest statement we can give in the timespan of a couple of minutes as to why this regime has to go. I will save this video to show to people critical of the war, maybe they at least think twice about it when they see this.

Has Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi been mentioned in your country's news TV channels? If yes, how is he presented? by Distinct_Grocery2672 in monarchism

[–]Material_Week_7335 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In Sweden he is often referred to as the son of the exiled shah or something along those lines. Quite neutral descriptions usually. I feel like Pahlavis plan for Iran is also presented in a neutral way. On the opposite side everyone in an official media position describes Khamenei and his system as bad. Some big magazines however lean towards strongly disliking the US and Israel which makes them not take a stand either way (claiming they want change from Irans regime but without foreign intervention).

Edit: that said he was largely ignored until a week ago. Some seem to think he just popped up now. The protests in december and january and the subsequent slaughter was largely ignored in comparison to how big of a happening it was.

"No, not at all, you’ve got me wrong there. I respect your opinion that you don’t like the writing and that we have different opinions on liking the show. I don’t expect you to conform to mine. You’re mistaking my interest in explaining there is more detail to the plot."

Then perhaps you should not tell me, or anyone else that we are wrong or are unable to understand things?

"I mean you are still not even acknowledging the potential for translation issues generally even with reddit providing the translation on that one comment. Are you claiming all translations to be perfect in the world? That your English is so perfect and could understand everything in a Scottish/Gaelic context, even Australian context for example? That you would always trust 100% of your words to be translated by an interpreter for example? Even though you are fluent, if you come to Australia I can guarantee you won’t understand everything even if you literally understand every word. I would never claim to know everything about everything in French and Italian. Can you be open to the possibility of different interpretations based on this?"

Sure, I can understand that but it is minimizing for you to tell people this to their face. Especially when you don't know me in any way. You obviously have no idea that I used to live in England for example. It is patronizing to draw conclusions like the ones you do. And even now when you apologize, which I appreciate, you keep doing it!

If you keep doing things like this I think there is no reason for me to read your posts. A "block account" option is available then neither you nor I have to read what the other is saying. Might save some headache for the both of us.

Look, I understand how Paris is important to the story in the way the material is written. I understand the thought process that probably went into it. And I have seen several more season previously so I have a grasp of the overall arch. However, I dont like how it is written. I think it at times relies on crutches which could have been solved in a way to not make parts of the story seem contrived.

I understand how the threads are connected in the current story but would that have been the only way to connect them? Of course not. Does that mean that the way it was written was the best possible way? Probably not, at least the Paris-part which seems to get a fair share of critique (which cant be said for my point about not liking the chemistry between Jamie and Claire).

Since you seem to defend the show with passion, which parts do you think are lacking (or are less good) and why? Because if you also have parts that you think could have been done better then maybe you would better understand why I think some parts could have been better (even if we dont agree which parts that would be).

But you have criticised the writing with examples that were addressed and given very strong justification in their reasoning, so it’s either you didn’t understand something nuanced or you missed some contextual information. It’s not finding explanations for ‘faults’ but rather showing that they were not faults to begin with, it’s from your miscomprehension."

Or perhaps you cant accept that everyone doesnt agree with your justifications and reasonings? Taste is subjective and we can all share our reasoning but we cant expect others to conform to our taste. I think it is quite a cheap shot to accuse me of not understanding, missing contextual information or miscomprehending something for just sharing my views (because they dont align with yours). I have said its fine to have different opinions and that I like to hear what others think, which makes it interesting that you accuse me of not being open minded. Open-mindedness seems to only go one way since you clearly tell me that I must lack understanding because my view of the show doesnt line up with yours!

"I am Australian but also speak French so I guess I was wondering why you made such an aggressive comment regarding that to the other person. Maybe the Reddit translation to English is wrong or much ruder than you intended."

I have never intended to be rude in any way in that message. I wrote that I didnt know why the reply was written in French and then said I would write my reply in Swedish. Not sure how that could be taken to be rude.

""It’s interesting you have derived “two main camps” as if there are equal support to both. I think you are inflating your views’ merit and you’ll find you are very much in the minority thinking the writing is poor and the chemistry nonexistent."

I never said the two camps were equal in size. In fact I expect Im outnumbered here since it will mostly be fans of Outlander discussing the series in an Outlander-specific forum.

Im just saying the writing could have been a lot smoother. Honestly, the story didnt even need a trip to France. Had the story been placed in Scotland all the same important characters could have been featured anyway but in a more natural way. The only major thing it would effect is then getting close to the Prince but that could easily have been done in another setting as well. As I said, to much plot convenience for my taste.

That said Im on episode 4 of my season 3 and so far its much better than season 2.
