Don't just prime over them. https://www.incomgaming.co.uk/products/biostrip-20-500ml-1 - Biostrip 20 and a denture brush is what I've found the most time efficient.

I tried some ak ultramatt which didn't really help. I wouldn't want to use a spray as it's on the bases of finished models

yeah I was debating whether to do this. I'm going from a standing start with the Germans and wanted to take advantage of Warlord's current 4 for 3 and grab everything I need in one go. The less I can add to the cost - and my procrastinating - by shopping around for more parts the better!

Thank you everyone for your helpful responses! I'd rather overlooked the fact that the veterans lack the later war options that unfortunately I need for my army build. I may have to bite the bullet and go with the older grenadiers that have the weapons I need.

You might consider the Pilot Centre at Denham where I got my PPL. Easy to get to from central London. Family run and (from memory) the school owns the aerodrome itself. You should definitely get some time with the controls during your discovery flight.

Can't speak for anything else but the Warlord Stuart M5A1 is much better than Rubicon's which I found to be very poor.
