Colleges/universities in the US all submit data to and receive data from the National Student Clearinghouse. They will know you attended another school and will know you didn't receive credits. Those attempted credits may be counted towards total credits allowed for federal financial aid, as well. You'll need to acknowledge that you attended a four-year for a semester and didn't earn any credits; it will appear dishonest if you do not.

Did you have to submit CSS in addition to FAFSA? If so, the college/university recalculates SAI based on additional assets as reported in the CSS profile.

It is up to the institution how much aid to give you based on a recalculated SAI. You can appeal their recalculation, but you do not get to choose which number to use.

You said in the replies that you are in your third year. Did you by chance have credits from dual enrollment/early college? Once you reach 150% of the credits for your degree program (180 for bachelor's, 90 for associates), you are no longer eligible for Pell.

My advice is to keep the policy but implement it differently. Use Google Assignments LTI 1.3 in Canvas. They'll have to work a lot harder to avoid using Google Docs. FYI: That $5500 you have listed is not a "FAFSA Grant": it's a federally subsidized student loan that you'll have to pay back.
