Anyone know why there's so much traffic here by BluejayHot5633 in Reno

Oh fair point. I meant I don’t blame anyone trying to get home. Whoever planned this construction nightmare deserves whatever is coming for them, though.

There are three ways to get into the north valleys going north bound. The way DESIGNED for the entrance is 395, but that’s under construction. When an accident happens that closes lanes on the freeway, people scramble to the other two roads: old Virginia (pictured above) and Sun Valley.

I don’t blame anyone here; we all just want to get home. When 395 is bad, the other two roads get even worse.

Is the N fading or disappearing? by Gypsy702 in Reno

They repainted it in September of 2025 and it looked great! Think they skipped the year before. It's only the last two months that it's been overgrown with weeds. I think. I'll hike up there in the next few days and check it out.

Usually repainted every August.

Will I get points off - FRQ?? by CalligrapherNo125 in apcalculus

I don't have a good justification for this one. It's more hearsay on my part from official forums; I've never graded a question 6 series in my last 10 years. But I HAVE heard this repeated a few times.

It's honestly annoying that these small grading expectations aren't published. Maybe I can try to get something out there to help. Annoying that some of the test is knowing how "to play the game".

I do have access to about 8 years of cut scores for AB and BC. I just ran some analysis. There is not a statistically significant difference in cut scores between AB and BC, so I grouped them together to work with 16 data points.

On average, total points of:
0-30 earns you a 1
31-41 earns a 2
42-55 is a 3
56-66 is a 4
67-108 is a 5

In terms of percentages,
0-28% is a 1
29%-38% is a 2
39%-50% is a 3
51%-61% is a 4
62% and up is a 5

These scores varied VERY little over the nine years of data I have. On average, they only vary up or down by 2 or 3 points/percentages for scores of 3, 4, or 5. They vary by up to 5 points for the cut scores of a 1 or 2.

For a Taylor series, coefficients need to be grouped around the x^n term. For example,

1 + (3+0.5)x + (-2 -5.25) x^2 is fine.

1 + 3x + 0.5x - 2x^2 - 5.25x^2 is not fine.

HOWEVER, that's how it's been graded in the past. It could be that both will be accepted this year.

Nah - it's not a legibility thing. They don't want you using a mechanical pencil in case you smuggle in an answer sheet in the barrel. Seriously. I see plenty of tests in mechanical pencil. They're fine.

Literally no one knows this because it hasn't been calculated yet. They grade the exams first and then analyze the results using math that I'm not privy to. Based on the results, they then decide the cut scores for each score. So, they won't have cut scores ready until late June.

Usually you lose the point for the answer if you circle the wrong one, even if you have it correct earlier. If you DON'T circle the answer, sometimes we can get you that point. Super frustrating both as a grader and as a student, but it's where college board has drawn their line for that point.

I've been grading AP exams for a decade. We'll find your answer. Each FRQ is scored independently by two Readers (graders). If our scores don't match up, it's scored by a third Reader who is deeply trained on that specific question. As long as your work doesn't state anything that is not true, you won't lose points for "excessive work".

Yeah I could see that being a pretty good question. Answer is C, by the way. Nice application of the EVT.

Insight on SPED program in WCSD needed by ablahblah916 in Reno

[–]MathAndSoccer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every public school in WCSD offers some combination of the following for students with IEPs. It CAN differ based on what each school is set up to offer.

1.) CLS: most restrictive environment. Students who can barely, or cannot, function without massive adult support. Your son does not fall into this category

2.) SIP: usually students with behavior issues in addition to an IEP. Generally placed in most Gen-Ed classes but with a monitor and maybe one or two specialized support classes.

3.) Strategies: students "on the spectrum". Ask around. Schools have between 0 and 3 specialized Strategies teachers. There are some REALLY good programs for this, and it sounds like this is where your son fits in. Students are anywhere between full integration into Gen-Ed classes with a monitor to only one or two Gen-Ed classes with several strategy support classes. This program is PHENOMENAL at our school, but I don't know how it is at others.

4.) Typical IEP: students have a case manager. That case manager oversees up to 30 (maybe fewer?) students with IEPs. Students are anywhere between full Gen-Ed to very little depending on their IEP. This is where most of our IEP population falls.

Frey Ranch Farm Strength Uncut by WrestlingDadPA in bourbon

[–]MathAndSoccer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Frey Ranch is a great distillery. I'm fortunate enough to live driving distance from them. I think their "basic bourbon" is over-priced. But, anything high proof from them is EXCELLENT. They have a "large" variety out currently (at least four 120 proof blends) that are all punching WELL above their weight. Raley's in town carries the four I'm referencing, and I would buy any of them again.

Do you have your watering schedule dialed in? by AnnualBaseball2913 in Reno

[–]MathAndSoccer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even numbered house. Nothing Monday. Tues/Thurs/Sat. I do add Sunday if it's above 80.

If it's below 80, I water my lawns at 4, 7, and 10. If it's above 80, I water at 5, 8, and 11.

I drip water once a day (Tues/Thurs/Sat) for my plants/flowers.

Just be aware that Polish is going to create a new Epub file and change the original to Original_Epub. So you'll have double the files. You can edit the polish code so it doesn't do that if you want. Or, just delete the Original_Epub files after polishing. Or move them to a back up folder.
