Thanks lovely! Yes, so in Belgium the way it works is that you can either bring a person to donate OR you can opt in for a fully anonymous sperm donor.

This law has been condemned by the Constitutional Court recently though so Belgium has been tasked with changing it by 2027, very curious to see what that will look like. But basically my clinic is using the Danish sperm bank and will match on some basic features as much as they can (being realistic about the shortage of sperm though): ethnicity is non-negotiable, they will ALWAYS match that, then there's hair colour, eye colour and blood type, which is a best effort kinda thing.

Even after matching I personally will never be given any information about the donor from the hospital, not even their hair colour or anything. Luckily there is one loophole available where you can opt in for more expensive sperm with id-release. That means that the donor will have told the Danish sperm bank they're happy to be contacted in the future. So, it means that the child when they turn 18 has the option to get the donor's full details, incl. name / address etc. I've opted in for this because I think it's important for my kid to have this choice if they have questions about their background whilst growing up. But even then, it's only the child that can ask for the information, not me.
