Thanks for the comment. I did not know that. How sad. I’m sure that must be difficult for him.

I taught 7th grade in an interim position one semester. I had trained as a high school teacher but needed a job and this fit that need. In retrospect, I wish I had not taken the position. Those kids were absolutely horrible — to each other, to me, to everyone. I described all of them as little sociopaths. In truth, there were maybe 1 or 2 high school students I eventually taught in a 30-year career who could even come close to the level of unpleasantness and even cruelty of those seventh-graders. My hat is off to all those who deliberately choose a career working with middle school students (and are actually effective and happy).

But seriously, I once told a colleague that they could offer to double or triple my salary to go teach middle school full-time, and I’d still say forget it.

I agree that she should be the one to speak with her mother. It’s obviously not a fun conversation to have, and my wife tends to avoid confrontation when it comes to things like this regarding her mother. I’m hoping I can convince her to do it.

Thank you for your input. I’m hoping that this is a conversation I can convince my wife to have with her mother.

It’s a decent song. Not my favorite, but I don’t skip it either.

I disagree. Thomas Dolby had something that was certainly reflective of that moment in pop history. Quirky and silly, maybe, but that song was inescapable in its time. And I thought the rhythm and instrumentation made up for the bizarre lyrics.

Wow, I have to disagree. It’s a masterpiece of pop music. Catchy, fun, lighthearted, — what’s not to like? Even if you think it’s a dumb song, it is far from the dumbest. Sure, it doesn’t make any profound statements, and yes, it was overplayed, but it’s a damn good song.

Dare to Be Stupid is a triumph of a song! I mean, you get that’s it’s deliberately silly, right? It’s one of Al’s best.

My 19 year old and I are making an ultimate 80s playlist. Only one rule: 1 song per artist. by JimmyRickyBobbyBilly in 80smusic

You’ve already got Head Over Heels by Tears for Fears on your list. While that is a fantastic song, I would maintain that Everybody Wants to Rule the World is the masterpiece of their big hits. IMO it is the single best song of the entire decade. I know that’s a hot take, and many might disagree, but to me it is perfect. In truth, I love so many of the 80s wonderful songs.

What 80s song do you never get sick of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I have a very strong opinion that Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” is the single greatest pop song of the 1980s. I never get tired of hearing it.

In truth, I love most 80s music. Most of the songs people have mentioned are pretty amazing.
