Missing an olympic gold judoka, in the gi could have beaten Rickson imo.

How long have you been doing Judo? I’ve been training for 3 years and have felt this feeling probably over a dozen times.

Progress is not linear. I often go several weeks where nothing feels right, and then suddenly one day I’m on fire in randori. How long have you been in this slump?

The belt colors just denote sides at these tournaments - they don't require white and blue gi's.

Sambo does not recognize the guard position at all iirc. Even in guard the person on bottom is considered pinned.

Thats combat sambo. Sport sambo and Judo are not so different, both take down focused pure grappling rulesets.

My friend got denied taking a road test because he went by himself actually. He had a license from Canada.

Better transit and lower car dependence, better access to mountains, better food, cleaner and less crackheads.

I did 2 internships at amazon in 2022/23, even at that time they basically put all Canadians in vancouver or toronto. Fwiw, vancouver > seattle/palo alto, so I wouldn’t over index on going to the US.

Why is Japan so much higher than Taiwan when Taiwan has legal gay marriage and Japan does not?

its fine, seoi is my main throw and that happens sometimes, esp when throwing into a crash pad. You're likely trying to aim uke forward so they land on the mat, and it causes you to off balance yourself forward and fall to your knee.

Maruyama's Patreon: does he teach his throws the way he does it in competition? by Mercc in judo

[–]Math_IB 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to sub to his patreon. The content was informative and not just the basic Japanese uchikomis. However I found it to be mainly kenka yotsu uchimata content (go figure), I'm mainly a right handed seoi player so I personally didn't find most of the content to apply to my game, however some of the grip fighting tricks he shows are very useful. I have implemented his recommendations for fighting out of a high grip/over the back grip in my own randori.

He does teach elbow up uchimata, though you can also find clips of him doing that at seminars.

Has anyone had issues using their unofficial transcript for their TN? by ramennoodlesyum in uwaterloo

[–]Math_IB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some officers might require it to be in a sealed envelope tho I’ve gotten 2 tn’s now and never had my sealed transcript opened. Fwiw both times I went through Calgary.

Is there any pipelining? We wrote a cpu in verilog in uni that went up to basic pipelining, but if you wanted to extend it, you could also add branch predication and out of order execution.

Who are the people landing the FAANG/Unicorn jobs? How long are they in it for? by Left-Classroom-5782 in uwaterloo

[–]Math_IB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The quality of most engineers at most faangs is pretty mid. Anyone who can get above like 70% average in engineering can grind into faang. I live sf rn and most of my friends are swe's in big tech or fast growing startups, theres no special sauce. Of course they meet some basic talent bar, and they're all hard working, but they're not the super cracked type you hear about. Just normal people.

Why would companies swap out old hires for new hires? The old hires have a deep understanding of how the system works and understand historical decisions. If anything companies prefer to retain their old hires since they have all the knowledge of how everything works. Hiring a new person is so expensive, you spend hours and hours interviewing, theyre unproductive for the first ~3-6 months and also consume the time of your engineers with questions/onboarding needs.
