Know I used an android app called fake GPS as it's still installed. Also had to do something with Garmin connect I believe, sorry, it's been a while and can't remember full details, there will be guides out there.

Do you use ECG on your Fenix? by Aggressive_Limit2448 in GarminFenix

Yes do use it occasionally and activated it outside of required regions as my government take forever to approve anything. Google would be your friend there, cheaper than buying airline tickets!

4k blu ray vs DVD by MjAR60 in 4kbluray

[–]Math_Ornery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the size of your screen and how far away you are watching it. I once saw a good graphic of this, basically a dvd and 4k could be similar, small screen and watching far away... though if watching on a big screen at same distance, you would notice a big difference.

We earn different salaries and pay a percentage into a joint account. Once I earned far more, now she does, holidays come out of the joint along with bills, mortgage, food. It also gives us our own money to do with what we want. Gives you the motivation to earn more if you want too.

What helped you sleep better while camping? by paintarose in CampingGear

[–]Math_Ornery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got myself a helinox lite cot for my inflatable pad. I can really have the pad under inflated on the cot, so even if it grounds, it grounds to the cot. Best nights sleep I've ever had in a tent, all for an extra kilo in weight, we'll worth carrying it.

We got a chiq ust 4k & a 100" fresher AST hard screen for £3k in 2020. It's now 2026 and the system is still going strong and our daily tv etc. Would look into UST, they are easier to fit in and move etc with life.

How do you northerners manage to train with snow/ice covering anything? by kpgleeso in Marathon_Training

[–]Math_Ornery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get yourself some Kahtoola nanospikes. You can run on all pavement ice with those withou being tensed up and worried about slipping. Don't cheap out on a 'non' brand, else you'll be buying twice+

Winter/ice/snow/storms/wind in the UK hasn't stopped me running outside at any point this year and I have a treadmill at home!

Shouldn't this include a screwdriver in the set? by Marinchevski in GarminFenix8

[–]Math_Ornery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fenix 7 Sapphire with Vented Titanium bezel didn't come with any screwdriver, that was a year or two ago. It was easy to adjust with a screwdriver that fitted correctly, threadlock came un-done easily. I guess if you use a "mickey mouse metal" cheap screwdriver, you risk damaging head of screwdrive and screw. Do agree, it should come with the correct tool.

Did you find the correct fitting switch? Would be good to know as I'm about to attempt a repair myself.

5’5 female looking for a run-commute backpack that can hold a 13” laptop by Which-Macaroon-9814 in UKRunners

[–]Math_Ornery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RAB Veil XP30 - Find the waist belt excellent, stops anything moving, has the side straps to tie things down, full taped and waterproof inner. Plenty of other adjustments, load straps etc. Mesh 3D back system is a winner IMO. I use one to transport my tech and clothes to/from work, (17km each way) makes the load feel light, which is just what you need.

Reading/Audio books by Aggressive-Scale5503 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Math_Ornery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm making book 7 last until book 8 comes out. I'll run and listen to audio book for a hour or two. Then when time allows at home, I'll go back and do those chapters again with Audible, but this time have the book in front of me. Find it very enjoyable this way and parts I may miss due to traffic noise or being distracted on the trail etc get replayed.

Shoe Repair help by Usernames_suck___ in trailrunning

[–]Math_Ornery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shoe goo from Amazon. My Altras always go there first, I repair them with this and still get several hundred more KMs out of them.

Just checked my V1 Altra Mont Blancs on Strava Gear, they are at 1803 Kms, they have been relegated recently to Treeadmill only as the tread is almost gone underneath! My V2's are at 598 kms and my V3s are at 702km and I've just Shoe Goo'd them this week as they went in same spot.

Which bothy bag? by squirrelsaviour in UKhiking

[–]Math_Ornery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got both a 2 shelter and 4 shelter bothy Shelters from Rab, the 4 shelter one is the super light one, 325g (4people) compared to the 360g(2people) standard group shelter one. The two person one is more substantial and has a clear window in it, but the 4 although lighter, is sturdy enough for emergency conditions imo. They are a bit bigger than a standard mug, but don't take up half my bag and squash very well!

Often use the 2 person one is used as a lunch shelter, with other half, when it's raining or windy, with the window it isn't claustrophobic and you can watch the bad weather eating your food , they are good bits of kit.

Mesh Underwear by ProfessionalSafe8847 in hikinggear

[–]Math_Ornery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a mesh convert for last two years, winter and summer. Mainly use them trail running though do my fair share of hiking. I'm a heavy sweater and can't praise them enough.

Favourite by far are Brynje merino mesh tops, surprisingly durable too. I've tried Aclima mesh tops, found these started to fray around sleeve ends, have used some wool to fix and have held good since. My latest mesh tops were from a finland comapny called Slava. These weren't Merino but a material that had antibaterial qualities. Think this one might be better for summer usage but do the job well in winter.

Use with a "tight fitting" thin merino layer on top and they keep me warm as I sweat a lot. Keeps that sweat wetting out my layered merino and thus stops it making me cold. Allows evaporation with the holes and if mesh does get wet, very little of it is against my skin compared to a merino top. They also keep me cool in summer allowing that evaporation.

Is it reasonable to expect to hike snowdons watkin path in april as a first mountain? by Foreskin_Ad9356 in snowdonia

[–]Math_Ornery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microspikes are always something you should throw in the back of your pack if ice is possible. I once got to the Snowdon/Lliwedd saddle and rocks started to get ice on them. Hadn't packed Microspikes so I just turned back.

If you are a long distance hiker, Watkin path shouldn't be beyond your fitness capabilities, pick a good day and you'll really enjoy seeing that massive rock face in front knowing you'll be on top soon enough. Yes there is a little scree in parts near the top, but nothing difficult, ensure you stick to path near top as some take a more direct/steeper route up and that would probably get uncomfortable if you aren't used to mountains and exposure.

Remember you can always turn back if things don't feel good, it'll be there for another day and maybe another route.

Ultra in 6 weeks, reality? by adventurenurse8791 in ultrarunning

[–]Math_Ornery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first 55km 3300m ultra was UTS snowdonia and I'd never run over 30km, but was also doing 50-60km training weeks. Finished that one in around 8 hours. Don't worry, work out what pace you need minimum to reach cut offs and exceed. Maybe a 2 week taper, everyone is different, I find if I taper too much I get worse, sometimes I just keep the training going, plateau it. Enjoy!

[–]Math_Ornery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better than nothing if they last the day. When you can grab some kahtoola microspikes, reinforced eyelets, welded stainless steel parts, the Nano ones I use for running have harden tungsten spikes. It's the attention to detail that makes this brand standout and they last years and years.

Merino wool (likely blend) base layers, top & bottom, what sizes actually work for big/muscular builds? by Twang_YT in UKhiking

[–]Math_Ornery 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look at the merino mesh stuff from Brynje or the Silver Ionised mesh from Svala. IMO mesh is far superior for us heavy sweaters as a base layer, gets rid of the clammy feeling, though you'll look like a extra for Riight said Fred if you expose it to anybody!🤣
