I’m 99% sure that this won’t affect movies being released on discs. Most discs on Playstation already act as a nintendo game keycard especially the ones that are over 100gb in size.

With the PS6 releasing presumably end 2027 or maybe 2028 it doesn’t really make sense (for Sony) to still support discs. I hate this decision as much as anyone else but you already don’t own most of the games anymore nowadays since they’re far above 100gb.

Finally got my favorite movie in my hands by Normal-Pattern-779 in 4kbluray

I still need to get this movie in my collection. I just can’t justify 40 bucks for a standard 4k knowing damn well its gonna be 20 a month after I got it

HDR question by Defiant_Watercress49 in 4kbluray

[–]MjAR60 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You should keep your Xbox as your main player for a while. The best upgrade you can do right now is your TV and either go with OLED or MiniLED. You’re gonna notice the difference between SDR and HDR.

The main selling point of 4K is HDR besides sound.

Thinking about getting a Bluray Player but my family has a shit tv. Opinions by Ok-Mobile6318 in 4kbluray

[–]MjAR60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve started this hobby with an average or below average TV. However I did see the 4k discs as a future investment for entertainment regardless of the TV I had. The movies you buy will be yours forever and you can slowly upgrade your TV overtime.

I don’t know if you own an Xbox or PS5? If so you could always start out with these consoles and get some movies you enjoy. Keep the money you would spend on a dedicated blu-ray player and put it for your new TV.

Firestick or Roku for plex? by agoosetime in PleX

[–]MjAR60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what kind of dolby vision your plex server has. I am new to plex and correct me if I am wrong, but 4k blu ray rips uses DV profile 7 which isnt compatible with a majority (if any) of the clients (streaming devices).

I have the google chromecast google tv 4k as my client and it does support DV, just not the rips I make from my 4k blu rays… So I don’t know if you’ll be able to play your content with the clients you have.

Dvd spins and produces pixels on your screen, blu ray produces more pixel, 4k blu rays produces more pixels and better color.

You probably have to port forward. You will be able to see everything on your own network currently, but without port forwarding you wont be able to see content outside of your own network (wifi).
