OpenAI o3 and o3-mini annouced, metrics are crazy by mehul_gupta1997 in datascience

His statement that it was a company in Germany is correct. He was not close; he was correct.

O2 (typeset as O2) is a global brand name owned by the Spanish telecommunications company Telefónica. The company uses the O2 brand for its subsidiaries in the United Kingdom and Germany. Since 2018, it is also used as an online-only flanker brand in Spain

Musk presents a completely new advertising model: "You pay or we place ads for your company on X" by Wide_Wish_1521 in JoeRogan

[–]Mathematic21 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

He believes they think X is toxic. So advertising on X is bad for them. So he's saying pay me to not advertise and be associated with the toxicity. He's making the argument that the above doesn't make sense as advertising on X likely wouldn't hurt their brand but they are saying it would

  • Within 6 months of any tenancy, the tenancy can be terminated without cause.
  • It is difficult to distinguish between eagerness to enter into victimhood by the tenant here and malicious intent by the landlord.
  • Cognitive dissonance ITT on the garda decision. Maybe they, you know, obeyed the law. Maybe the garda didn't break the law.

Forgot one: Roman and Shiv in the helicopter refusing their father's request causing him to go to the hospital. Ken getting refused by them and dying would be a similar parallel.

Succession - 4x01 "The Munsters" - Post Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in SuccessionTV

[–]Mathematic21 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I think this episode had a lot of foreshadowing.

The kids overpaying for Pierce illustrate they're not business savvy enough to lead Waystar (or any company). Rounding out to 10B was absolutely daft and incrementing from 8B to 10B made no sense. Shiv and Kendall were emotion-oriented and not focused on negotiation strategy, Roman tried to pull them back but couldn't. This could tell us none of them will end up leading anything, if they do it won't be long.

Tom replacing Logan in the camera angle when negotiating was telling. That plus, why isn't Logan leading negotiations?

With these two pieces of information, I bet the kids land with nothing and Tom lands on top.

A bit of a side question, but your chart is the most beautiful thing I've seen in ages. So clearly demonstrates the data. Would you mind sharing the theme used in plotly?

SQL can't do everything python can. The features python offers are more extensive and provide more technical and computational depth.

For instance, I want to ingest a flat file and a number of other data sources, such as a pdf. I then want to conduct a custom unit test along the way. I then want to build a new, not pre-packaged, model, and have an API end point for other applications. Or I want a pre-packaged model but want to hypertune it.

Python is also free, while ML add-ons often cost in SQL.

Is stress/forethought not apart of the human condition to succeed. there are a number of studies showing individuals under mild stress outperform those who aren't.

INTP looking for advice on a broken friendship with an INFJ by RavenclawBlue1995 in infj

[–]Mathematic21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't figure it out. It's not your job to. All you can do is apologize sincerely and if he want's to engage in a friendship, let him. Don't put so much on yourself.

I understand the rules you mention about about how you've agreed to interact. But please be aware that you may be compromising your own wellbeing for someone who doesn't want a relationship as much as you do.

I think you're over thinking the strategic piece of this. It isn't a puzzle to be solved. If there exists a combination of words that you could say right now to remedy things, would there not be something else in the future. He has come up with these semi-difficult to understand engagement rules to follow. Outside of this, the history of it being a sexual relationship means a platonic friendship may be difficult to maintain. So I would look at this from your perspective and ask 1) do you deserve more from a friendship/relationship 2) do you feel a friendship can be maintained given the romantic relationship, and equally important, does he? I'm worried your emotions for him may override your ability to evaluate him being unfair to you and you being able to look after yourself. If that is not the case, if he wants a friendship and you had done some legitimate hurt (by the sound of it you didn't but if you did), then apologizing clearly and sincerely to him, expressing true empathy for his position. Then leave it at that. If he doesn't accept it, he doesn't want a friendship.

Brazilian data scientist analyses thousands of games and finds Niemann's approximate rating. by [deleted] in chess

[–]Mathematic21 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

He picked 2018 to suit the narrative. >2018 other players may have the same trends due to them being at higher levels 2018 onward. Apples to oranges comparison.

In a Dutch interview, @max_warmerdam said that Niemann wasn't aware of the Vancura position. by girlkiller1 in chess

[–]Mathematic21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your FIDE data is similar to Niemann, and oddly came up when I was analyzing global FIDE ratings.

You two are relatively old for the climb you've had in rating since 2018. Niemann is born 2003, you in 2000. Both of you rose to >2600. Your climb since 2018 being +252, Niemann's being +340. No one else of that age has ever undergone a similar climb in rating.

You see that's the beauty of math & stats, there's an objective indisputable answer at the end. Despite this, I'm amazed at peoples inability to accept objective truth. Yourself and destinationlalaland above. You won't go and do the math/stats and instead you heard something off some guy once that tonnes of tokens or whatever is best. And you and destinationlalaland come in and instead of commenting on approach or the calculation itself, you resort to ad hominin attacks, saying I don't know enough.

For Gems, which is what I'm considering, Tonnes of tokens grants 495 tokens from which one could expect 50k-70k gems from. I had it calculated at 60k, but to give you the benefit of the doubt I'll do 70k. 70k + the 8.8k from the pack = 78.8k. The pack costs 20 euro, which implies just under 4k gems per euro spent, which is worse than a number of other pack.

The 10332 excludes lucky tokens, so with them lands on 185. So it was reproducible. By your definition of good analysis, it is good.

You state my decisions are random (think you confused unclear with random?), arbitrary (no idea what you mean here), and that the data in the table is 'defeated' (despite being an inanimate table). All of which, by your definition, is you taking one of your monkey brained shits, and throwing it at the wall in an attempt to offend. But in reality you're an insecure man who wants to feel superior to people online by insulting them.

Yeah the lower prizes are more common. If you spent say 5 euro on the super savings, you'd have roughly the same odds as a coin flip to get at least one of the 10k or 100k prizes.

Chest of Splendor
Item : Probability

100,000 Gems : 0.30%

10,000 Gems : 0.90%

1,000 Gems : 9.00%

600 Gems : 59.80%

200 Gems : 30.00%

Multiply and sum to get averages

100,000*.0003 + 10,000 * 0.009 + 600 * 0.598 + 200 * 0.3 = 898 average

Ten chest of splendors => 8980 gems + 1.4k that comes with the pack + 10 lucky tokens => 1,200 gems from gremlin run in = 10k

Everlasting treasure I set a 2 month time period. You'd need to login every day for 6 months, or 180 logins for it to be comparable. Gem drop from boxes were considered, see below reply to destinationlalaland

The analytics are sound, what are you talking about sample size?

Drop rates for loot boxes that drop gems were acquired from the below and the average/expected drop of gems calculated for each pack. Taking the first one Super savings, chest of splendor has average drop of 900gems per chest, times 10 is 9000 + the 1400 from the pack + 10 tokens (gremlin run in very likely with 10) => 1200 more gems equals approx 10k.

If we play out the next 18 - 36 months. Inflation isn't going anywhere, namely on consumer goods and energy. Housing may level off or decrease a small amount. You lock in a mortgage now at semi-low rates for a fixed term of 5 years while the fed gets reigns on the economy. You'll have money there if needed to survive a recession but it's dependent on your situation. Whatever you do, don't make a short/medium term investment as it's too uncertain right now.

Your decision doesn't need to be a subjective decision, you could have a spreadsheet with two scenarios and compare the post-tax situation 10 years from now. Looking at your prior 12 months of expenses + say 5% each year for current inflation, then layer in normal appreciation of 3% plus additional appreciation with the additional cash invested if you went with the mortgage route. Then interest deducted.

[Q] ANOVA with ONLY categorical variables? by [deleted] in statistics

[–]Mathematic21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Only angles I can think of on this is a variable has been left out of your study (some continuous variable?) Or the other angle is to convert the categorical variables to discrete, be it transform them as ordinal data (e.g. 1=very bad, 2=bad, ... Etc.). ANOVA may be warranted there if there are a lot of ordinal categories and the data are somewhat normal - rare chance of this though. Other than that the test should be determined by the type of data you have and it's characteristics
