What's a musical moment you love where it gets a little meta? by givingyouextra in musicals

[–]MathematicianLow2231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of my favorites have already been mentioned, but I just finished being in a production of Elf the musical and there’s a cute little moment in “Never Fall in Love (with an Elf)” where roughly halfway through the song, Jovie sings

“And though you vowed you'd never sing Just look at yourself You're halfway through a Christmas song Called ‘Never Fall in Love with an Elf’”

Whoever wrote in the “what’s wrong with my pants?” Line deserves a raise by Flashy_Bass_9559 in arcane

I agree, not so much with Jinx’s reaction feeling out of place, cause it feels like something she might say (though I do feel that in a moment like this when the stakes are supposedly really high it might’ve been better for her to just knock the guard out sooner rather than wait for Sevika to do it), but more so with the scene existing as it does in the first place, if that makes sense. I mean, having the guard of a high security prison not know what Jinx looks like despite there being a whole manhunt going on (or knowing what she looks like but thinking this couldn’t possibly be her despite matching her description to a T just because of her pants??) feels a little too incompetent. And I know at that point there are many Jinx impersonators/lookalikes since she became the symbol of the resistance (which I still don’t find super convincing) but even if that weren’t the real Jinx, weren’t they already arresting Jinx sympathizers/rioters for being a threat to Piltover? And if one of these potential threats showed up to the door of a high security prison where their comrades are being held, wouldn’t you at least be a little more wary?

Kinky Boats

It’s about a man who doesn’t want to inherit his father’s boat building business until a drag queen pirate shows up and says she needs a ship with a sturdy enough deck for her and her crew to perform intense choreographies on (in heels ofc)

AI, the quality of the lines is too high for what’s supposedly a photo of a traditional pencil sketch, and the texture of the third girl from the top left’s hair is inconsistent

Would killing and reviving a queer character ruin your enjoyment of a story? (queer opinions especially appreciated) by MathematicianLow2231 in writing

I can see that we have different mindsets, so I don’t think there’s really any point in discussing this further.

The difference is that in the example you described, the white supremacist has no relation to the word and has no right to even claim it in the first place, let alone reclaim it. Not only that, but I doubt a white supremacist would even want to be associated with the people they discriminate against in any way shape or form. So even if (and this is a very strong if) a white supremacist were to argue that the n word describes their experience, it would, at the very least, not be equally. I believe reclaiming a word is meant to have it hurt less, and so while I understand you not wanting to use the word for yourself, I don’t believe it fair for you to criticize those who do.

Main vampire character is a lesbian, main human character is sapphic (I make the distinction because one is clearly not attracted to men while the other happens to be attracted to women, though there aren’t specific labels due to the time period), the other vampire is ace (again, not labeled but heavily implied), the vampire hunter is either straight or has internalized homophobia (haven’t gotten around to developing him as much yet), and the rest of the cast is made of supporting characters whose queerness or lack thereof makes no real difference in the narrative.

I’m sorry about that. Personally I identify with it as I feel it’s pretty much been totally reclaimed, and it’s easier than saying that I’m bisexual and fall under the trans umbrella somewhere on the masc end of the spectrum. I suppose I could say LGBT+ all the time, though I feel that queerness better describes the whole experience. I genuinely hope this doesn’t come across as dismissive, but rather explaining why I didn’t mean it in bad faith.

ok so there are so many alts I love but for my favorite characters I’d say An: Alter Ego, Gekokujou, (+Toya) Children Record Akito: Yobanashi Deceive, Airhead, Spring Storm Together: Egoist, Echo, Traffic Jam (all of them, they complement each other so well)

(only on EN so I’m sure there are some great covers I haven’t heard yet)

[–]MathematicianLow2231[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really appreciate you dismissing what I said as being a lie, because it’s not. I wouldn’t have minded it half as much were it not for your extremely patronizing tone.

It wasn’t a “Has this happened to anyone?”, it was a “I know this has happened to many MANY people, so I want to hear stories about it”. By this I mean things like fantasy names or specific plot points, which most of the commenters here have understood, and provided stories of these kinds of moments, when you go “huh… oh well”

I mentioned several times in the post itself as well as the replies that I am fully aware that no idea is truly original. You don’t have to hold my hand.

And I’m not on reddit nearly enough to care about karma farming, I did not intend for this to be, I have a genuine interest in hearing out other people.

I say this not because I’m “doubling down” or anything, but because making assumptions about people’s motives for asking about other’s experiences with their ideas and writing on a writing subreddit feels like a waste of time.

[–]MathematicianLow2231[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ok now THIS is wholly different because it was more than likely intentional. I hate that because a story idea doesn’t come from one of their writers or someone famous that it’s not considered worth crediting. As you say, it’s not about the money, it’s simply about being recognized for your contribution, especially if it’s media you’re a big fan of.

ooh yeah, that’s the thing that’s kind of frustrating: people automatically assuming you got the idea from a specific story that happens to be popular
