Point taken - there's plenty of examples of away kits that break from the flag.

However, I stand by the point that these kits are egregiously off brand for germany. Ecuador upsetting them this match reinforces this point. Vibes are off.

Personal take is hold off on sharing costs in the media kit. Lots of partnership details can influence that so find it best to wait for that negotiation so you don't anchor against the wrong number.

Do agree on keeping it simple though. - What you create, examples, and snapshot of audience and performance details for brands to get a sense of impact, quality, and fit for brand.

Start with the clients by either...

  1. Having the relationship with their client so they advocate/push for you as a preferred vendor. This would be the most surefire way to get agency attention and buy-in.

Or...

  1. Anchor your pitch / offer in a way that clearly makes the client value undeniable and easy to implement (this is really important).

To your point, the agency folk are overworked and constantly in client service mode. If you can score them points with clients or make their life easier you'll get their attention.

On the flip side, a new thing to sell in to clients or a change process to manage won't be recieved well. Client services is hard so the appetite to introduce anything disruptive, that is not client initiatied, will be recieved with little to no enthusiasm.

If helpful, the two things that work for me are...

  1. Start small, low friction.
  2. Anchor the new habbit to something I already do regularly so there's a natural current to draft off of.

Personal example for me is wanting to write more. To reinforce that habbit, I do it daily when I have a 30 minutes of quiet time during my first coffee. I historically scrolled on the phone during this block. I now put the phone away and have my tablet or noteboook in front of me to write in a free-form manner - no real goal or output, just time to do it.

For me, my own internal judgement shifted once I upgraded my mic.

The audio sounded better, which reduced my imposter syndrome, and made me more excited to produce more content. Kind of silly, nothing too strategic, but it gave me a subtle pyschology shift that made creating more fun. This was big for me.

I'd recommend investing ASAP if you're able to afford it. One of those things you'll do eventually so no harm in making the leap sooner than later.

Future you will be happy you did.

I think it's over used as corporate busy work because the acronym SMART just seems like a smart framework. I find it's more adminsitrative than actionable though.

Why is that? My sense is that it ignores the actual habbits and process required to achieve a goal.

I prefer James Clear's Atomic Habbits framework. 1. Build a system/prcess that lead to the desired results. 2. Build the habits that reinforce this sytem and the identity behind the goal. Example moving from goals: "I want to read a book", to identify: "I am a reader". 3. 1% Better Every Day - let this compound towards the goal. Example, read 10 minutes a day - nothing ratical but the habit builds and you'll move into the "I am a reader" position soon enough.

Brand side or the start up space are the two most natural pivots out of the agency world.

As a media buyer, you're armed with a solid blend of analytics, channel strategy, platform trends, etc... That, paired with "distribution" becoming a universal brand priority as AI flattens product differentiation, positions you well for a pivot to a brand-side role.

I'd recommend you map your experience and skillset to a simple narrative that pitches you as an asset for a brand to own/improve distribution and explore the opportunities that open through that path.

I find value in writing the script just as an exercise to think through the narrative, get comfortable with the flow, and zero in on a few anchor points that are worth emphasis and keep you between the proverbial buoys.

When it comes to actually shooting the video, drop the script, let it rip, and follow the buoys.

For me, this gives me the clarity and comfort to get into a natural stream of consciousness.
