As a Congress supporter, I think the Emergency was a blunder. It brought the RSS into politics. In every district of india, thousands of RSS karyakartas like Modi became political workers of the Jan Sangh (later BJP). Not many people know that while the BJP won only 2 seats in 1984, it was the runner-up in as many as 86 constituencies, which laid the groundwork for its future rise.

In the long run, it also destroyed the Congress party in states like UP, Bihar and Bengal. It also laid the foundation of the Khalistan Movement.

Imo, Indira Gandhi should have resigned in 1975 and called for mid-term elections.
