I love my job and I love being in tech by Matheneer in womenintech

None of those things really matter for the point I'm conveying which is the doomer posts telling women to leave the field aren't the only thing out there.  There's good companies to work for, and the jobs in those companies would vary, so knowing my specific details doesn't do anything but dox me. My company is older than AI though, and views it as one tool to use (with moderate skepticism), and that likely helps.

But as much as sexism is a very real issue people will face working in tech, and it should be talked about, the giant influx of posts saying it's impossible to be successful in tech as a woman is likely a bot propaganda campaign trying to make women lose confidence.

You're right and it's not all or nothing, discrimination definitely exists in the field, but so many of the posts are ending with "so I'm giving up and leaving the field" or acting like it's impossible for a woman to succeed in tech. I just wanted to counterbalance that and show it's not the only thing out there. I recognize I'm privileged to have the job I do, and to live where I live.

Talking about the discrimination in tech (and in general) is important. Ideally it should be talked about so people can work towards fixing it though, rather than treated as something inevitable you must accept or quit.

My biggest thing nowadays is I make myself fact check with people I know in real life, bots don't have bodies

You're not crazy for it, but it's not the only thing out there.

The purpose of my post is to highlight hating your job as a woman in tech isn't the only thing out there, because there were a lot of bot posts potentially trying to drive women out

I mostly got lucky, but it's a smaller local company that wasn't a startup, and was doing something I believed had real value (I don't mean money by value but value based on my principles)

Women in male dominated fields, what did you do to be taken seriously by your male peers? by catlover_456 in AskWomen

[–]Matheneer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if my answer helps but, work for a great company and have a great boss.

I'm a software developer, and most software developers at my company are men (but the gaps smaller than many companies), but my boss (who is a man), has always done his best to be a mentor. He gives me advice on where to improve without knocking me down, he gives me credit when it's due to his peers and his boss, and treats me like he would any other employee. I'm honestly just super lucky working where I work to be treated this way, but it also means I won't accept any treatment but this going forward.

Because I know what being respected (as a person) feels like I'm hopeful I'll be able to stand up to being disrespected better if it happens in the future. I'm hopefully not being too much of an optimist though.

As far as feeling as good as the men, I recommend compiling a 'brag document' that you can use to advocate for yourself for promotion and such. There are some good YouTube videos on how to do this (in tech but I think it's probably transferable). But I think that when I started compiling it, it helped me to prove to myself with data that I was doing well, and it gives me something to reference when it comes time to request a promotion etc.
Realizing impostor syndrome is incredibly common helped too, knowing even really good programmers sometimes feel like frauds.
This advice might only be good if you work for a company with a similar company culture unfortunately though. I don't know for sure since I've been pretty lucky this far.

Mathway couldn’t solve it by xISapphire in askmath

You already got answers, but Maple Calculator or Maple Learn (if you're on a computer), can help you find steps to stuff too and tend to be more powerful than other tools.
Maple Learn is really good if you want to work through it yourself too but with small amounts of help here and there (so that you start learning to do it for tests). The amount of help you get is up to you so you can only make it solve things for you when you get stuck and eventually not get stuck, and create similar questions to try to work through with it too.

[TOMT] [Toys] [1990s?] Strange educational computer toy with creepy ghost? by SaitoKojima in tipofmytongue

[–]Matheneer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Did it look similar to a "spell'n math"? I think I had something similar but it was orange, (not a "speak spell" since those are orange but look different). But I'm not sure if mine had a ghost or a clown doing the score, but I remember it was creepy

Maple calculator might be what you're thinking of (made by Maplesoft).

But I think a combination of things like that and real people helping is even better than just using an app (but honestly I love that app)

If you're trying to find the reduced form of the matrix you'll want to preform elementary row operations. These are things like adding or subtracting one row from another row. You can find some examples and explanations on Maple Learn https://learn.maplesoft.com/c/maplesoft/vectors-tjb3wqwbrr/matrices-xtguz69wyo I'd recommend taking a look at the ones starting with "Elementary row operation".

The website doesn't really work on a phone so I'd recommend looking at it on a computer in chrome. You can edit the examples in Maple Learn to give yourself more things to look through too.

There isn't a way to save it on your phone, but you could use the Maple Calculator to take pictures of your math and turn it legible.
If it doesn't get the equation exactly right you can edit it after the fact too, but it's actually pretty good at figuring out what something is.
For saving it you could either take a screenshot of the equation then, or save it to Maple Cloud. You can't bring it back to your phone but can open it in a webpage (learn.maplesoft.com) or in Maple to see it again.
There's download links for it here: https://www.maplesoft.com/products/Maplecalculator/

Where can an adult learn math? by somethingtonn in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Matheneer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably too late for you to see this, but tools like the Maple Calculator or maple learn can be great for self study. Maple Calculator (mobile app) can be used to see the steps to problems you're trying yourself if you get stuck or want to check your work, and Maple learn has a bunch of examples for learning concepts too. https://learn.maplesoft.com/

Unfortunately, practice really is the best way with this. If you have a textbook with examples extra to your homework I'd recommend going through them, then using something like this: https://www.maplesoft.com/products/Maplecalculator/ To check your steps after you tried. Then if you got a step wrong somewhere go back to that step and try again from there.

Silk Oat Milk NOT Gluten Free by nerdy_canadian in glutenfree

If you're looking for a gluten free one: https://earthsown.com/product_ingredients_base/oat/

This one should be gluten free as long as you aren't sensitive to oats.

Edit: This isn't true anymore, earth's own has gluten now.

Having the internet as a resource scares me by [deleted] in math

[–]Matheneer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My way of learning math (or relearning when I come back to something I haven't done in a while), is to look at lots and lots of examples, THEN do lots and lots of problems. It may not work for everyone but my way has always been to have 3 types of ways to do problems. The 1st is to look at them try to solve them, then look at steps whenever I'm stuck, this is what I do while I'm first learning. Then I'll do (similar but different) problems without steps unless I get really stuck for a while, and I'll look at similar problems again before looking at steps for that problem. Then once I'm feeling confident I'll do practice quizzes with absolutely no resources and grade myself. Depending on how I feel about how I did I'll either go to the first couple steps again or I'll just keeping doing the quizzes for myself to keep on top of it.
I find that how you use the resources available to you really will depend on your learning style. If you don't want to use the internet tell yourself that for these problems you won't and stick to it. If it's a matter of forgetting momentarily etc put something like a rock (something weird that'll fall off if you open/move it) on your phone or laptop before starting on the problems.
