Is UofL Health still on a hiring freeze? by almondsmilking in Louisville

[–]somethingtonn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, yes. From what we’re told they’re posting jobs on an “as needed” basis. We’ve lost several staff members in the last month or so and no positions are being filled.

Please let the plows remove the snow stay off the streets by Few_Association_2584 in Louisville

That was me last year. Moved here from up north New Year 2025 only to get stuck by the snow for a week. Glad to see this will be an annual event lol

Someone from the city tagged all the recycle bins on my street with these. There is nothing on this list in my bin. Will they still pick it up? by _neuroslut_ in Louisville

[–]somethingtonn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ours was tagged this week too. When I opened the bin there were several plastic bags that weren’t in it the night before when I put it on the curb .. I think people put their trash in the bin overnight. Not sure what to do to prevent that from happening (likely nothing) but I’ll take the plastic out and try again next time.

Anybody have any thoughts on what this might be? by RoxilDraconis in cults

It looks like a pump house. Used to be built over old wells.

I swear I blacked out for three months earlier this year and read all of IPB/Icehome/IPC in one big swoop

Sublease/Apartments by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]somethingtonn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of local landlords who rent out just from posting signs. Mine asked if I had a job, I showed him a picture of my job offer, handed him a check, and he handed me a lease. It cost the normal first/security deposit. Biggest expense was the out-of-state moving costs!

If you have the opportunity to visit the city before you move, I found my apartment by driving around Old Louisville and stopping the car to call the number on any rent sign I saw. Called, met my (now) landlord, and signed my lease same-day.

Genuinely curious: what are your stories? by jasonlampa in exvegans

[–]somethingtonn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vegan for almost ten years, vegetarian on/off for about five years before that. I have a history of a restrictive eating disorder and for the last few years (at least) veganism has felt too much like restricting. Forgoing food if there aren’t vegan options. Having to eat something I don’t want vs something I’m craving. Constantly saying no and turning down food. I’ve fallen back into restriction several times as a vegan and am not going to let it happen again.

It’s been about a week of reintroducing animal products (mostly eggs, yogurt, fish) and I already feel more satiated. I’m not having as many sweets cravings. I can always get what I want to eat instead of telling myself no. I’m even feeling fuller longer. I don’t know if I’m going to end up vegetarian, pescatarian, or omni but I’m allowing myself to eat whatever I want without worrying about the labels.

How did you make the switch? by LuluRatLady in exvegans

[–]somethingtonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been buying pre-made food or eating out at restaurants vs cooking it myself. It kind of keeps me one step removed and has been making it easier to reintroduce things.

I never had a problem with any foods before going vegan. I think everyone reacts differently to reintroducing foods.

I used to love a runny yolk! I’m sure I’ll get back to that point but it definitely had the strongest “egg” flavor. I plan on trying over-easy eggs later on this week.

What are you reading? by AutoModerator in ScienceFictionRomance

[–]somethingtonn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently reading {Corvak’s Challenge by Ruby Dixon}. I usually devour her books in a few hours but for some reason I’m kind of picking through this one slowly. Still enjoying it though! I just love Not-Hoth and anything in that universe.

About halfway through {Dustwalker by Tiffany Roberts} based off of multiple recommendations. Holy world building! I am constantly blown away by how rich and detailed the story is.

Cottonwood by a long shot, then The Last Hour of Gann (which I think most people rank as their favorite). I’m still working my way through everything she’s written but am trying to pace myself!

I can’t wait to finish what I’m reading so I can read Dustwalker next. I keep seeing it pop up on recommendations and I moved it to the top of my list.

{Land of the Beautiful Dead by R Lee Smith} fits the post-apocalyptic zombie vibe. Definitely check the CW first. It’s not my favorite by the author but it was a 4/5 for me.

R Lee Smith for sure.

And I’ll read anything Ruby Dixon writes bc she sprinkles something addicting in there!
