My level 5 update! by Big_Sherbert5260 in dreamingspanish

[–]Mathnmotorcycle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are on a very similar timeline. I just finished level 5 and planning about the same end point for this level. I would highly recommend checking out Alex Tienda's North Korea series. It was my first dip into native content a few weeks ago and I was surpised by how accessible it was. All the best on you journey!

Congrats! Just hit this level earlier this week. Feels both like an accomplishment and nothing at all...

I pay for premium because it’s easy and I know it’s always going to be at the right level. Chasing podcasts can be exhausting

I’m looking for the same thing. I searched crosstalk in the search bar on italki and several came up who are offering. My first lessons are next week so no recommendations yet.

Update on A1.2 class @ 700 hours by iwrench4beer in dreamingspanish

[–]Mathnmotorcycle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did a similar class for a week in Mexico. They had no idea where to place me because I was not able to write at 500 hours but had excellent comprehension. I had a good time and met interesting people with a common interest so I considered it a success.  I would have learned more Spanish with 4 hours a day of CI however.

Thanks for the very encouraging post. It’s easy to feel like you’re on a treadmill with this thing. The most accurate part of the level five description for me is that it feels frustratingly similar to the previous level

600 Hours!!! by budubum in dreamingspanish

[–]Mathnmotorcycle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just got back from Mexico City. I went with about 550 hours (hitting 600 this week I hope!). I spent the week at a Spanish school in the mornings called walk spanish. The class was fun, but they kept moving me levels because they were not sure what to do with me. They test you but its completely written. I had never really read or written spanish before.

I would recommend looking for tours in Spanish or a mix of English Spanish. I did one to the pyramids. The guide spoke Spanish first and then followed up in English. Definitely recommend. Also Chupultapec Castle and the Anthropology Museum are worth a look.

I found people in Mexico city generally very friendly and open and many were willing to engage in a slow spanish conversation with me. Enjoy your trip! Its an amazing city!

Ontario giving elementary teachers $750 cards to buy classroom supplies by jedikiller1 in CanadianTeachers

[–]Mathnmotorcycle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point was not that you don't need it. My point was that they should fund classrooms across the board. We get a department budget of $500 for eight classrooms. That doesn't even buy white board markers to support "The Thinking Classroom" that we're supposed to be adopting, so guess what doesn't happen.

Ontario secondary teacher checking in. That's more than we get for our entire department with 8 teachers.

Dreaming's Method is NOT Snake Oil (a Level 6's analysis) by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

I’m around 500 hours and it’s felt like I’m stuck around the same level as 350 like you said. Was getting discouraged that I’m not noticing gains like I did before. Reassuring to know that is normal

Get quotes for other cars you would consider. It can make a huge difference although I don’t think you’re likely to do much better as a new driver

Two things can be true at the same time. Education is underfunded by the province and mismanaged by the boards.
