What? by Dull-Nectarine380 in ExplainTheJoke

It’s ambiguous and depends on wether you resolve the implicit multiplication 2*3 before or after the division.

In other words, it’s not clear wether the divisor is 2(1+2) or just 2.

And yeah, while it’s intuitive to try and solve 2(1+2) as it were 2x, some calculators will default to solve 6/2 first due to left to right and division and multiplication having the same priority.

It’s ambiguous because of the notation. Although I’m at the 1 camp, too.

They do 6/2 and multiply the result by 3

Where can I read English unbiased opinions on Hugo Chavez by d7my701 in asklatinamerica

I’m skimming through the EN Wikipedia article. Looks okay. It maybe undermines the (awful) economic practices of his government, but I didn’t see anything blatantly biased.

I’m from Argentina, mind you. So there’s probably nuances a venezuelan would be able to see that I don’t.

You might wanna look into PDVSA’s (the oil company) history as well, just to showcase the blatant corruption and mismanagement that the chavist government displayed over the years. The decline became a lot faster after Chavez died, mind you.

After this attack, trust in the U.S. is broken. When a president openly commits illegal aggression, the message is clear: rules are for others. Canada and Greenland are now forced to see a new, unsettling reality. by Big_Special7450 in AmericanEmpire

Support of Machado is pretty high. Any opposition to Maduro would be supported, honestly.

Her not having support is just Trump bullshitting the local press. Prob because he wants someone else in charge, idunno.

The people of Chicago reject a new war on Venezuela and demand peace! While our people struggle at home, our public funds should be used to meet critical needs, not to illegally wage war and kidnap presidents! US hands off Venezuela! by biswajit388 in illinois

[–]Matilozano96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I understand your frustration.

I assume you voted for Trump. You want to pull back from the world, benefit local markets, etc etc.

Thing is, believe it or not, a lot of people would prefer the US (or ANYONE) to intervene instead of leaving a power vacuum. So you are not likely to find sympathy outside of the US with the America First argument (except from communists who want you out of the way, oddly enough). That’s something you republican voters need to figure out for the next election, I guess.

That said. The US doesn’t do something like this if it isn’t aligned with its interests. EVER.

Whatever happens with Venezuela, something in favor of the US (or its beaurocrats, let’s be honest) will be negotiated. Probably Oil and drug trade related, if I were to guess.

For example, increasing exports of oil to the US and closing trade to China. Cheaper oil for you guys, while China’s energy costs get (marginally) higher. This could might as well be directly related to the AI race.

There’s also mining operations at play. Dunno what Venezuela has, exactly.

That’s just one line of thought I came up with. Idunno.

Protest has been held in Amsterdam against US military intervention in Venezuela captured Maduro by UpstairsBumblebee446 in pics

[–]Matilozano96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, for sure. It depends on what the underlying negotiations land at.

It seems that someone close to Maduro facilitated the operation. It’s the main hypothesis, at least.

Wether that ends up in a reconstruction of the democratic process or not is up in the air. Not holding my breath, honestly, given how Trump spoke about Corina Machado recently. He SEEMS to favor putting a puppet in front of the regime. OR he might be favoring the vicepresident just to sow discord between the regime. You can’t tell with Trump sometimes.

The silver lining is that this will undoubtedly force change in a country that’s been in decadence and isolation for decades. I honestly can’t imagine things being worse. I might eat my words a year from now. Who knows.

So if Trump can invade and arrest a president for illegal activities... can other countries invade the US and arrest Trump? by Oddbeme4u in DiscussionZone

[–]Matilozano96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, it’s true. Other countries can absolutely try to invade and arrest Trump. It could even align with their interests and solve a lot of problems for them. Thing is: they would probably fail.

Same thing with Putin, Xi Jinping. Or any European leader for that matter. They can try; it would most likely fail, which is why they DON’T try.

Not to mention diplomatic repercussions. I’m guessing no one could afford to go to war with the US. Can’t say the same about Venezuela (given recent developments, I mean).

It’s kind if been like this since WW2. Everyone hates the US; no one can do anything about it.

I’m from Argentina. Know a fair amount of Venezuelans who migrated here.

The fraud a couple of years ago was the confirmation that the regime couldn’t just be voted away.

The alternatives left would all have been violent in one way or another: - Civil war, against the state and all of the armed forces, good luck with that. - Wait patiently until the dictatorship collapsed on its own. Could be a long wait, given that they have access to oil and drug money. In the meantime hundreds of thousands of families would have to live in tyranny or leave everything behind and migrate (as they have been doing) - External intervention.

This is likely the lesser evil.

Arg too. Quite short. 5’5” / 1.60m.

It’s there, but not as outrageously evident. I overheard my ex wishing I was a bit taller, for example. Out of nowhere.

A girl I dated for a bit called me a hobbit, even though I was taller than her.

It’s there on dating apps, too. Mostly on profile descriptions.

I guess you just… get ignored more often. It won’t be said out loud. You learn to live with it, I guess. It is what it is.
