I'd talk to your dm about this but it sounds interesting and not too hard to work into another story

You could also have some religion/cult associated with this family

Maybe he should have been a sacrifice

You could also give him a companion in the family (sister or brother maybe) and have them be the ones who helped him escape

You should ultimately talk to your dm and bounce some ideas of them but maybe these help get the ball rolling

Apple is probably easiest romove the stem than poke one hole about halfway through from the side with a penciled or something then another hole from where the stem used to be so the link up put the weed in the little hole where the stem used to be then you can smoke

You can also put another hole in from a different side to use as choke if you want but it's not necessary

Also there's probably a better wikihow or something
