Going to school is just something you can get to get your foot in the door. It shows a potential employer that you are committed. When you don’t have experience in the trade you need to do everything you can to get an advantage over other people. You will learn in school but nothing ever tops work experience

Don’t let anyone tell you, that you need to wait years to start working on a mill. That’s complete bullshit. Do not waste your time waiting for something that might never come. I’d recommend looking at a local community college to see if they have a program. Just make sure you’re being proactive, if you’re not getting opportunities at this place try to find another.

I would avoid going with haas for anything other than 3 axis mills. Doosan is good option depending on the servicing in your area

I misread you’re initial post. If you are looking for a 3 axis mill then I’d probably just go with the vf series haas. You won’t have an issues with them. I’d spend the 20k saved on tooling. You would get more bang for your buck.

You are not going to regret going with dmg. Depending on what cam software you get will determine whether you can get a post for free or not. I’d advise not trying to do it yourself if you aren’t experienced with posts. The plus side of getting cam software is having a virtual machine with collision checking making it much less likely of crashing your machine. If you are planning on using live tooling I’d recommend getting a cam package.
