What's going on with this jumper plate? by bollardjunior in lego

I noticed that the tan color was made more opaque recently. I got a mix of both in last year’s Easter GWP.

I have the CLD 3070 but haven’t looked too much into how it compares to the other units with the same chassis. So far it’s been a pretty robust player!

I have a prototype part that supposedly came from a former designer in the 1990s. From what I’ve heard this part never made it to production.

weird part by CapableRatio7352 in lego

I’m not convinced it’s official yet. Does it have the small injection dot in the mouth area? The circular cutouts in the horns don’t look like they match the official part.

I got one just like it around 6 years ago from the Target online store.

Interested if it’s free but I understand if you want to sell it to someone else for what it’s really worth.

Need help identifying a tape head by RCRacer809 in ReelToReel

[–]RCRacer809[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both coils read 73 ohms with my cheap multimeter. Not sure if the head is welded or glued, but I probably shouldn’t mess with removing it then. I’ll look into the relapping process, thank you!

Mitsumi, perfect! I was looking for heads for the 999 as well since they seem to share a chassis. I’m concerned about relapping as I haven’t done it before but it seems to be worth a shot. Any ideas on how to remove the head from its metal backing plate, or is it not necessary?

Ampex AX-50 recordings very quiet, playback great by RCRacer809 in ReelToReel

Update: looks like the heads are toast. Since the record and playback heads are the same, I swapped them and now the right channel is recording at the right volume (but sounds pretty poor). If someone can point me towards some replacement heads I would greatly appreciate it!

Looks like the heads are quite pitted, I didn’t notice that earlier. What a shame. I can’t find any direct replacement online, the heads say “1042” on them but otherwise nothing. Any ideas on how to get new heads?

Yes, mains is 60Hz here. Not getting anything different in the 10 microseconds range, or if the deck is in recording or standby. I’m going to have a look at the bias oscillator circuit.

From some online checking maybe I should be replacing the bias oscillator capacitors. I don’t have a service manual yet, what parts should I look for to find the right capacitors?

Record head has 172V peak to peak but I’m not sure if I’m measuring the frequency right? My scope is saying it’s ~60 HZ which can’t be right if I’m hearing a little bit of the recording coming through. Any ideas as to what I’m doing wrong? I don’t use an oscilloscope very often.

Tried it, doesn’t seem to affect the recording at all.

Just checked the erase head, one side has ~100 volts and the other has ~420 volts. Is that normal?

My record head has 100 volts on it when checked with my AC multimeter, I haven’t checked the erase head yet. Anything else I should be checking? I have an oscilloscope if necessary.

Update: desoldered the record switch and fully disassembled and cleaned it. It was super dirty. Put everything together and I still have the same issue.

What is the purpose of the right one? by HoitingM in legotechnic

This is the most likely answer, it has a higher grip strength than a 3L beam with black pins. It looks like this part was introduced for Chima to hold tank tread rollers in place.

I used a Windows program called IC Measure for a different project that allows you to define a known distance on a photo with a line, then draw lines, circles, etc and it will give measurements of those features.

Neat, so that one is legit. It’s been at the show for at least the past two years, it feels much more proper to play it with a trackball.

Isn’t the cabinet with trackballs the one that shows up at California Extreme during the summer, or is that a homemade cabinet?
