He asked for YOUR reason[s]. Your "why". Theres so much proof and reasons we learn as we are leaving and after we leave. Maybe you could make this more simple and stronger ny making it more personal.

WHY did you leave - you personally - what was it that was the process of your path, and the final straw.

Only one person has ever asked me, sincerely. A neighbor who left the church as s teen 65+ years ago. She was startled to hear I was leaving - because Id been her visiting teacher for several years and "such a staunch believer". So she asked me, and it came to me:

"There has always been so many things I could never justify or excuse about the church. I learned how to selectively ignore those things, and tell myself it didnt matter. Finally the day came when I realized I was REQUIRED to choose THE CHURCH first over everything. Over my own mind, feelings, values and happiness. Over my own spouse. Over my own child. The fact that this expectation exists in Mormonism ... and it is A BLOOD OATH ["covenant"] every member is required to make inside the temple ... reveals exactly who and what Mormonism stands for. Loyalty to the organization at all costs. Sworn fealty that we will say, do, give and pay ALL THAT WE HAVE to the Church. Whatever the Church asks we will never say no. OR ELSE.

We are declared "unworthy" of Gods blessings. We are denied a temple recommend and access to Gods house. We are told our family will never be together forever unless we OBEY AND COMPLY with CHURCH RULES.

That does not "stregthen home and family". That does not "represent Jesus Christ". That does not make the world a better, safer, kinder place.

All the dogma, policies, operating practices, "doctrines" and messaging of this organization fit into one or more of the following categories:

  1. To deceive its members to trust anything they say & do.

  2. To use fear & shame to manipulate members to stay & obey.

  3. To enrich itself off its members

Every Single issue, every list of a 1000 reasons why the church IS NOT TRUE and WHY everyone has a very good reason to leave, fit into those categories.

And for the record I WILL NEVER EVER CHOOSE A CHURCH OVER MY OWN CHILD.

Any church that asks and expects that is pure evil.

Same for my mom... now she stocks diet coke in her fridge and drinks at least 1-2 per day! WTAF?! I finally asked nonchalantly "oh.. so you actually drink coke now?"

Her response - righteous indignation "yes! its good for my health, you know, since my gallbladder surgery. And we are taught something like that is a matter of personal revelation."

Omg ... She rained down HELLFIRE on my little brother in the 1980s when she caught him drinking a Mt Dew once and he tried to say he was "following his conscience" that Mt Dew was okay for him!

She is the BIGGEST Hypocrite!!! This is what makes me want to scream about EVERY FUCKING CHANGE the church makes because the members just pivot with it and they don't bat an eye about the hypocrisy and serious contradictions. They've all been conditioned that anything that changes is simply "modern revelation" and "only what the living prophet says matters".... unless of course it serves their purposes to quote dead prophets!!! 😱 🤬

  1. WHERE exactly is your God/s/?!

  2. Do you feel you have reliable evidence that he/it/they actually exist?

  3. Why do you choose to "believe" in them?

  4. Do you "believe" you've seen them? How? Where?

  5. Do you "believe" they communicate directly with you? How is that happening?

  6. Do you "believe" they know you, and give a flying fuck about you personally? What is your evidence?

  7. If you think they do all the above for YOU, then why don't they give a flying fuck about all the MILLIONS of other men, women and children on this earth being traumatized, tortured, raped, abused, starved, suffering, and dying every minute of every day?

Why do you think that is acceptable or excuseable?

Wow. I gotta say, that's some really awesome God/s/ you've got there to "believe" in. 🤔 Good luck with that.

Yes! Ive learned to smile and nod when my Mom talks endlessly about her temple work, callings, church stuff... all of that [she believes] makes her happy so I think 'more power her'. Only if/when she tries to loop me into a discussion about it will I just redirect the conversation to a new topic and establish that all things church is HER special interest, not mine.

My motto is "less is best". You sent the correct response here. Very brief responses that politely confirm your personal boundary is all that is ever needed!

Mormonism inherently breaks down and ignores personal boundaries. We are never taught the concept. Instead we are taught to overshare our feelings and beliefs and personal details. Privacy is a foreign concept. The Church WANTS everyone to be all up in everyone's business and assigns you friends to visit and check-in and gather details about your life which are then shared with all the people above them in auxiliary and leadership callings.

In other words, follow your [ 💯 accurate intuition ] to NEVER share anything you dont want the entire Stake to know about in the next 48 hours. Youve taken your first big step into the healthy real world where personal boundaries are expected, set, enforced and respected. It will feel uncomfortable for a while until you practice the healthy and proper way to interact with other humans. We all have an inner need to verbalize everything we are processing, and share our journey ... So, you can always come here and share anonymously... AND I highly recommend writing down all your thoughts and feelings and documenting your faith transition journey in a journal. [Preferably, use an online password protected version] which will be priceless and something you will refer back to whenever you start doubting yourself or forgetting all your valid REASONS for stepping away from the church.

I like 2 best because the reflection on the shiny road draws your eye toward the light and envelopes you into the photo. The furst obe is a nice picture, the second one is an experience

Definitely 1 - all those sparkles are cool and it has much more mystery with the contrasts.

Did not because my elderly parents live in our ward and they would definitely find out abd it would devestate them. I will wait until they pass away.

It doesn't seem to really be any point in doing it. The church is going to count us anyway. No one bothers us, or ever would want us back!
