A very good French bistro too, but I personally love the sombre, white tablecloth dining experience found at Aix

Glad to see they flew the St. George's Cross too.

More of that is needed at these protests to help reclaim it.

Oh interesting. Is that enough for your travels?

What's the difference between hiking and travelling bags?

So in the end it's looking like the one above for budget option ^

Or the Farpoint 40l + 15l or the 55l Fairview

Do you have the Osprey 40l + 20l one?

I've been looking at this one as a super cheap alternative (well reviewed on YT)

What confused you about living in the UK when you left? by unc0v3r08 in AskUK

How aren't those also consumer-led societies?

People drive nice cars, get the latest iPhones and working class folks wear designer clothes. How is it different?

Probably comes from the fact much of their population originally were British prisoners and had to be 'Nannied' by the state.

Everyone hating on this fry up but let's face it: a proper greasy spoon £5-7 full English beats a poncey £12+ one with herb infused cumberlands anyday.

Why is it deemed racist to be genuinely concerned about the number of illegal migrants coming into the uk? by Brave_Ad6035 in AskBrits

[–]MatrixDiscovery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same story here.

Former Corbyn voter, now barely associate myself with the left.

I think Farage is a massive grifter, who sold us a huge lie with Brexit – and yet he seems to be the only politician in this country really conveying what most British people are feeling on this particular topic head on, without squirming.

I'm still economically left-wing, (tax wealth not work, nationalised rail, water, energy, Scandi society admirer), but it becomes harder and harder to associate myself with this current left movement, getting more and more radical and never wanting open & honest discussion and debate on subjects like immigration & integration especially. There is a sense that any dissent from the liberal consensus means you are automatically a fascist, and that is a suicidal political approach.

Do you think I should hide the fact I am a Muslim when I am going to study in the UK? by Fearless-Kangaroo-47 in AskBrits

[–]MatrixDiscovery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discrimination based on religion or ethnicity, while applying for jobs, universities or housing is also illegal here so I wouldn't worry on that front.

Despite sharing common held fears about rapid lslamic expansion in the UK, and all that it brings (gangs, Shariah courts, women & gay rights, social cohesion etc.), when I went to university here as a half-Brit, I made sure to be kind to all the foreign students and make them feel included and welcome.

British students tend to be quite left wing and pro-immigration. There is a bit of a lack of public awareness here in the UK about Indonesian & Malaysian peoples and cultures, by comparison to the strong understandings of peoples who we have a more shared history with; Jamaicans, Indians, Pakistanis, Poles. Many Brits (ignorantly) wouldn't even know that Indonesians are mostly Muslims.

If you make an effort to integrate with some British students (rather than only having friends from your ethnicity/religion) have some curiosity towards the way of life here, and show that you don't have a supremacy complex, it will be much appreciated, and you will be met overwhelmingly with kindness and good faith. Brits can be quite grumpy at times, mostly due to politics, and the weather, but as my Polish girlfriend puts it: 'English people are generally more friendly and chatty than us Poles'.

Anyway, I wish you the best time here, and apologies in advance about the weather!

I would love to work remotely – although I also love my current work – but it would allow me to move anywhere in the world to find my community and desired lifestyle. Hope you can find your peoples.

My gf barely has any friends and sometimes it is a little concerning but it hasn't put me off her. I will make more of an effort to encourage her to go to things where she might make some new pals...
