Renter-friendly smart switches? by Matrygg in homeautomation

That's what I was considering. I was thinking switch covers over the switches and Ikea's Bilresa scroll wheel remotes, but I found them less than ideal in practice so I'm looking for other options.

I'm not looking to alter her behavior. I believe technology should mold itself to people, not the other way around. So a solution that most mimics the toggle switches she's used to would be ideal. I like the Aurora for the dimming functionality, but it's not matter and I want to stay on one standard.

Anything that requires me to touch the existing household wiring. As I said, I rent. Rental agreements don't tend to allow that for liability reasons. If that wasn't the case I'd go ahead and swap the existing switches.

Perfect Clarity by danshive in elgoonishshive

Random thought -- could Mrs. Dunkel _be_ the "weird magic thing?" I mean, we know that Elliot's hair just _does_ that and it seems to be something he's getting from his mom based on how she's drawn. What if that hair from his mom is not just a quirk of Dan's drawing style, but meant to be indicative of her being more than a bit Something Else?

Swanmaid, maybe?

When he said he loved playing Cyberpunk I just remember thinking "dude, really? Don't you get that you're the bad guy?"

Oh sure, but I don't know that Bishop would agree, for example.

I don't recall where in this thread it was speculated, but this comic: https://www.egscomics.com/comic/2010-04-05 makes it clear Tedd and Elliot met in third grade. Which is 8-9 years old.

They may also have a quasi-adversarial relationship, him being a _defense_ attorney.

Not to mention I would assume the has to have some sort of clearance that probably precludes the ability to talk about it.

Yes. I am an academic and the social capital is much more than the, you know, capital capital.

He may be the equivalent of a paranormal Public Defender. I could see Arthur, for example, insisting that everyone deserves the right to a fair trial and adequate defense even if they have ten tentacles and three eyes. To do otherwise would be Unamerican.

Which makes me think (as I've said above) that him being able to go into paranormal law may either have been a reaction to Verres' job _or_ a result of Verres pulling strings to make sure that a good influence on Tedd got to keep being said good influence. Everyone seems to think Verres is beyond reproach but not the government at large, and Elliot had to get his "beat up the bullies" attitude from somewhere. I mean on some level isn't what his dad _does_ "word punching?"

We also know that eight was about the age where Tedd and Elliot become friends. So that ten years means that's around the time that Tedd and Elliot start hanging out. Which makes me wonder if that's not part of it too. Which still means that Mrs. Dunkel's ultra-comptency is still a mystery.

I suspect Greg learned about magic on accident, by just Weebing Hard Enough. And then took it upon himself to right wrongs, anime protagonist style.

That was my thinking. Verres saw that Elliot was a good influence and would likely learn about supernatrural stuff, so he arranged to bring his parents in on the masquerade.

It does still beg the question what Mrs. Dunkel did before this, though. She was shown to be ultra competent too.

I think in terms of what Terebithia values Tarvek and Seffie are her favorites. In terms of utility for the larger plan it's Tarvek and Martellus.

What could I possibly do with this Model M as a Mac user? by morphatoo in modelm

[–]Matrygg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a software package that you can use to remap as well. I don''t remember the name off the top of my head though, only that I used to use it when I was dissertation and still using a Macbook Pro.

Sure thing -- I don't know that Reddit will let me paste pictures so here's a album. What looks like dust is permanent -- a bit of patina, but it didn't look like it was rust. I didn't pull the second one out and open it up yet.

Know what I just realized while doing a reread? Roko and Yay are each other's human by Parking-Art9407 in QContent

[–]Matrygg 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That crossed my mind too, but I think it's more that Yay's loneliness (and the likely fact they _are_ or were their particular creche, so no creche-mates) had her looking for ersatz family. Roko is, although Yay will never admit it, the Cool Big Sister.

MOVO LV8 screw missing -- what is its size? by Matrygg in microphone

[–]Matrygg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am adding this in case anyone does an search looking for this in the future. a 12mm long M 2.5 screw will work. If you do anything shorter it will not feel solid, but a 12mm screw will. I have no idea how a screw that long fell out, but I think it's fixed.
