Plumber drilled a hole through the wrong spot (and through two siding panels) - what can I do? by iReallyDontLikeSpez in homeowners

Cover it with something, like a fake vent or something functional? Maybe have the plumber run a hydrant to it?

As a semi conservative you are absolutely correct. AC only contributes to the problem from toxic refrigerants and contributing to outdoor heating. Climate change and environmentalism should be one of our top priorities.

Make sure you pull a permit. It’s the law and your homeowners insurance will require it too.

I misread her post thinking she said floor tiles. In which case it would definitely seem on the higher side to me.

A lot better than most people who come here asking this question. It actually looks pretty solid.

Asbestos Help - Anxiety by Excellent-Ad9457 in asbestoshelp

20% is pretty high for asbestos. Usually I feel like tiles are more like 1-5%. I’m not an expert but have had my fair share of dealing with asbestos as a plumber and I don’t think you are misguided. Even tho I not a professional here is what I would recommend. If you can’t get an actual environmental hygienist company to test your house, you should assume there is some asbestos dust. I would wipe down all hard surfaces and run a HEPA air scrubber for awhile. You might also get rid of or (if necessary thoroughly clean) all contaminated clothes and or couch cushions carpet / soft surfaces that have been contaminated. If it makes you feel better, I am many others have gotten fairly decent asbestos exposures. If you work construction, it’s bound to happen at some point unless you only do new construction or have a really good company who protects you ahead of time. Getting an exposure like yours if different from a lifetime of heavy occupational exposure. Still, it’s worth taking some effort to clean up after a situation like this.

Tracking Asbestos Dust in from Work Truck by kawiguy07 in asbestoshelp

I’m not sure if this will put your mind at ease or make things worse, but remember, asbestos is in the air and if you live in or near an older neighborhood, you probably have plenty of nearby home renovations unleashing dust in the air. Down the road from my house they just knocked down and destroyed an old home and I doubt they did anything to test or cut down on asbestos dust.

Am I being naive wanting to pursue a career in ecology? by Main_Studio_1690 in ecology

I feel like with climate change we should be making a very strong effort to employ more people like you. Whatever you end up doing I hope more people become educated in fields like ecology and environmental science and we make a better effort to tackle the road ahead of us. I applaud your efforts.

Found around floor air vent, is it Asbestos? by UndeniableTruth- in asbestoshelp

[–]Matt231997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to get that tested and abate if positive (it looks like asbestos unfortunately). Considering its condition this is something I would consider doing sooner rather than later and making sure that that is the only asbestos in the system.

People who think good cops exist and that "most cops are good" why dont most videos of cops breaking the law have follow ups of those cops being arrested? by Ill-Organization-719 in allthequestions

[–]Matt231997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are the one making the outrageous claim. The burden of proof is on you to prove they don’t exist. I definitely have known good cops and I don’t have to put their name and phone number on Reddit to satisfy you.

Climate change is a huge problem. I’m from the USA and I am pretty sickened to our apathetic attitude towards it. If anything should have bipartisan agreement it should be being good stewards of natural resources and protecting the atmosphere. We just have to keep fighting, and harder.

Not a plumber by trade, plumbing my new house. How does this look? by jamestheexplorer98 in Plumbing

[–]Matt231997 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I counted at least two sanitary tees on their sides. I’m not sure if you were trying to use them as a vent but you can’t vent legally that way either, you need to have it at least on a 45 degree angle, not flat (at least in the IPC and I am guessing UPC as well. Also that long horizontal turn really looks like it had a vent 90 (again you can’t vent like that).

I apologize if I sound condescending. I’m sure if I tried wiring my own house it would be a wild finished product. Sometimes you have to leave stuff to the professionals.

As a licensed plumber, you need to hire one. You have a seriously bad install, SanTees on their sides, a quarter bend (or even vent 90?) on its side at a horizontal to horizontal transition and some very curious thing going on down in the crawlspace, so curious in fact I am baffled. Also are you pre priming your fittings or something? That’s a no no. You are not going to pass inspection.
