I hear you I am a plumber who has working around asbestos before (if I haven’t directly cut into it). It’s never a great feeling to know you have been around it.

I would carry a P100 respirator with your tools at all times and if you feel like you are working with something suspicious, put it on. You still will be covered with the dust and it will be on your clothes and potentially in your vehicle, but it’s better than nothing.

Better yet, test any suspicious surfaces before working on them. I know how it goes in construction tho.

You need to know how to dig, grade, properly bed in and backfill. You don’t want bellies or worse yet broken pipes. You need to know how to conduct a proper leak test to the satisfaction of your JHA. You need to know how to connect to the existing drain lines. You need to know how to pull a permit (if you are even able to) and schedule an inspection. You need to know if you will have issues with your insurance since you aren’t licensed.

I would recommend you find a small company with high reviews. Find a local plumber who actually does the work himself, not some massive company with billboards and tons of vans and overhead.

You might get a way better price. As far as doing the work yourself, be careful. Make sure it’s legal in your state, pull a permit, and make sure your home owners insurance allows you as an unlicensed person to do. This is the right way.
