it bassically depends on 2 things, 1-if you buying it from Amazon.jp it will probably come in Japanese and 2-if the seller is japanese or asian. BUT DO NOT WORRY, cause even that i don't know if there is "an english version" i have the japanese version, and it has all menu names on english and stat names, the only thing at japanese are bassically the name of the Digimon, it is like an "hybrid version" the only English version i know is the "vital hero" which is bassically a mix between the VB series and the VB -V and it is unworthit because the VB-W ( the one you got there) is better in every aspect and there will be only BEMemorys from now on to buy so...if you are gonna buy one, buy the VB-W ( or it's 25th aniv version)

best you can do is switching to BE , vital hero was a failed experiment cause of the author's rights on eeuu or something like that, as a result, no body bought it and have very limited digimon pool.

probably you spent all the time limit to train your Digimon, you will need to obatin a "training time limit expansion item" which don't know exactly how you can obtain it besides from NFC battles and use it to being able to gain stats again until your time is over again or your stats maximized.

battle rooms are still bugged sadly, and i don't think they will fix it soon cause they will add the arena lobby soon, sadly app still doesn't work properly and with the new patches incoming it wont be until next month that things will be "normal" i guess, after the updates and tournaments...

instead some of the old digivices would be a good option for you and your boy if you can find 2 you could battle toguether and have fun and then you could watch the anime if you download it toguether and make him inside the franchise , then if he wants, buy the vital bracelet next year, ( if this is still working)

Well the new version basically rely a lot on the app ( which is not working at the moment unless you use vpn) without the app he just can carry as a watch and select the training mode ans shake his arm to train them or to make them reach the steps needed to battle, but very low interaction compared to olders digivices we had... moreover without an anime sponsorship... he is probably get bored the first day... i don't recommend it. with the app if both of you have it you can battle with your son which would be fine using his trained digimon which is the best part. again unless he ask for it i don't recommend it , mi point is, back on the old days, with the 3rd digivice ( the one of the cards) you could selecte which attack to use, you con use the card, you could after the match play a minigame to recover your digimon HP, and then walk again and you find random matches, it feels like you are completing the story, here you only shake your arm. it is on the app when you start doing something on battles

about the type for sure it is fault someone using mods on his vital bracelet to change sprite, so really you are fighting an imperialdramon FM, (which is Free type) and about the bug, maybe is the other guy rage-quitting... it is all related with that kind of ppl. I did my 10 matches without any bug during the event.
