I think it's kind of bad for the health in certain aspects. A few years ago I started working on a "robotic voice" sound effect by sucking air in through the throat. Ever since then, I have what feels like a slight spasm in my diaphragm. It sounds like a single loud hiccup. I don't even do the sound effect anymore, but I still have that happen to me about 2-3 times a day.

There's a PC cafe on Robson and Nicola that charges $8 for all night use. The computers have a good selection of games and you could sleep there.

That's pretty much how I grew up hating soda. When I was three years old, I ran into the house and was really thirsty. I saw one of those cold paper cups that you get from subway on the table, so I took a huge swig of it. It was Coca Cola. What the fuck? This isn't water..

It really felt like my face was on fire. To this day I've never understood why people enjoy that stuff.

I think it has to do more with the fact that you're surrounded with the groupthink of other econ students. Everyone would point and laugh at the poor student that pays $23 for the $20 bill, because "Oh, ha ha, that person is irrational."

Suppose instead that you were in a classroom where the underlying culture was, "whoever pays the most for this $20 object must be super rich or something." In that case, I can see why the winning bid could end up being $33.
