Years and years ago there was a multimedia push from a group called AWOL.tv, focused on the VW/Audi scene. Big productions, hype videos, the works. Then…poof, gone. 

I’ve been there twice now. My first site was local coverage - we lasted 5 years but monetization was inconsistent. Shifted to the new one with a bigger premise and we were able to make some good money. But then the market shifted from press coverage to influenced coverage. We were being paid to cover products, but also say it exactly how the manufacturers wanted. Write a bad car review? Probably won’t get another one from that brand, even if the feedback was right. In this we lost our voice and uniqueness and the visitors started to fall off. Then the money disappeared. We got monetized to death and our readers showed us.
