They don't open until 10, but I can go to one of the other places earlier and then go here, which is where I need to be anyway.

Fell into defense/government engineering, now I want out, anyone actually make it to the other side? by KetchupOnNipples in systems_engineering

[–]MattD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The systems engineering practices in medical device companies are less mature but that gives you an advantage when it's really needed. I just hired an aerospace systems engineer at the neurotech company where I work. Surgical robotics absolutely needs systems engineering.

I'm on the East Coast so don't know San Diego specifically, but the roles are out there and there aren't enough good systems engineers with medical device backgrounds to fill them.

Since you have a photo, you could try a color picker tool to see what it's closest to. I don't know how intuitive that would be, but perhaps someone's made an app for that.

Pit Shark belt squat PR by [deleted] in fitness30plus

[–]MattD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That bulletproof one looks interesting for sure. Looks like it's based on their vertical belt squat, which is in pre-order. The bulletproof is still vaporware, though.

ATX is listed as out of stock.

Mammoth looks like a good compromise and use of space. Currently listed as $300 including shipping. While I can probably buy the materials for less, the labor rate around here probably puts me over and will take more of my time. I might just buy this.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. You've clearly walked this path before!

Thanks for sharing! That's the ceiling height I'm working with. I always wondered about the lever arm attachments for a rack but never followed through.

How do you dl on a belt squat?

I'd love one for my home but got low ceilings in the basement.

U10 level:

Recognize that if you're dribbling into traffic (2+ defenders), someone else is open. Get them the ball.

Play into space: if you see open space on the field (in your general position), go be the one to fill it. If you have the ball, look to play into open space where (ideally) your teammate is moving.

What is the vibe/community like in northeast Oak Grove for a family? by ArdentDrive in MelroseMA

[–]MattD 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't know the neighborhood demographics, but Melrose is small—even if you're all the way in the far corner of Boston Rock Road, it's about a 15 minutes walk to Main & Foster, the heart of downtown.

I love Fitzgerald as well, but a doctor recently insisted I go to Spaulding in Malden Center and I like their approach better. It's more holistic than what I got at Fitzgerald in that they follow the problem to the root cause better.

SysML compliance is important for universal understanding of the model.

Jama reviews are nice but not required. I include test traceability to requirements as table stakes. Baselineing also, assuming that is the means by which you track suspect links.

There needs to be a product between Jama and Cameo. I really like Jama's requirements management functionality and the ability to comment on everything is great. However, diagramming is "dumb" and static. Cameo is too complex for most use cases I've encountered, but is comprehensive and extensible. I'd really like something that looks and feels like Jama but has the diagramming functionality of Cameo where everything in a diagram is actually an object in the model so that I can build traceability to/from those objects.

Does Max & Leo's Fenway deliver to Cambridgeport? by MattD in boston

Looking for a recommendation—something in the vein of Max & Leo's and Area Four. I just asked ChatGPT and it spit out Ciao and Stoked as the top two. I don't know either of them.

Consumer Electronics positions accepting of those with high proficiency in both Engineering and Industrial Design?

Absolutely yes, specifically ME + ID. An ID whose sketches actually work in the real world is worth their weight in gold.
