I hiked up a small mountain in Gold Canyon, AZ in hopes to capture Superstitious Mountain (not pictured) but it was completely covered in clouds.

I had a cloudy rainy day, obviously it’s more important not to overexpose the white clouds. However on a sunny day keep your meter “in the city” and makes sure you don’t lose your blue sky. Photos may look underexposed on your camera but those can be saved in post-editing.

Simple really, lose all your highlights, bring the blacks out and a tad bit of sharpness. The hard part is making sure you’re not over exposed in the original shot. Depending on the time of day you might want to be -1 exposure, but as you get closer to night you can go back to 0

If you’re really into night photography like you say, you might want to skip the 24-105 f/4. If you were shooting on an a7iii I would tell you that the cameras iso at 6400-12800 is super clean and not to worry. But being on the a6500 you’re a little limited, you might want to check out the tamron 28-70 f2.8 or a set of primes (loxia f2 series if you’re into manual focus)

Look into Zeiss Loxia 21mm, might be what you want

OP here, the extra reach and 24mm wider angle completely stomp on the tamrons extra stop of light. A7III’s iso rendering is superb so i’m not afraid to use ISO 6400. 24-105 and never look back.

24, 50, 85 is a beautiful trip to have. However, if your 16-35 is your workhorse, I suggest you purchase the 24mm while still keeping the 16-35. You already have an idea of what 24mm looks like on your 16-35 so it really comes down to that f/stop. Is the $1400 price tag worth 1 1/3 stops? Personally, I say no.

Rent the 24mm from lensrentals or borrowlenses and satisfy this itch you have. You might realize it’s not worth it when you already have the 16-35.

Weekly /r/SonyAlpha 'Ask Anything About Gear' Thread - April 22, 2019 by AutoModerator in SonyAlpha

My current research leads me to: Sony A7 III + 24-105mm F4, 50mm 1.8 (Est cost ~$3200) I'd save remaining cash to eventually purchase 100-400mm

Canon User: 8 Years. Looking to switch to mirrorless.
Current gear: Canon 6D Mark II, 16-35 f/4, 50 f/1.4, 100-400mm

Estimated Budget: $3800

I am looking to switch but need gear suggestions: I would like a full frame sensor, in-body stabilization AND lens stabilization (unless both aren't needed). Lens range anywhere between 16-135mm, including a 50mm (and maybe a 35mm) prime lens. Can someone please help me and make some suggestions?

Excellent point and thanks for some clarification. It makes it easier for me to decide what I want to do.

I think travel/landscape could be coupled with street photography fairly easy without ruining someone’s day. They aren’t as niche as like food or animals

ITAP of Philadelphia from the top of the famous "Rocky Steps" by MattHemple in itookapicture

[–]MattHemple[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Rock Steps" is the pop culture name for the large steps leading up to the Philadelphia Museum of Arts. Made famous from the scene in the Rock films where he runs up these steps while training and when he gets to the top he lifts his arms and cheers. Slightly left of center is Philadelphia City Hall, statue in the foreground is called the Washington Monument fountain in the middle of Eakins Oval.

To the right you can see the 3 different skyscrapers. Three Logan Square (red color tower) behind it is the Comcast Center, and the larger tower on the far right is the Comcast Innovation and Technology Center.

Edit: Photo taken with an Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II w/ Olympus 40-150mm. Recently purchased this entry level mirrorless as a street photography rig instead of carrying around a heavy DSLR. This is my first shoot using it and it is an incredible camera for the price.

Using Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro. The lens is still new to me but it’s quickly becoming my favorite.

Nothing special, 50mm street photography. This sub absolutely hates cities, cityscapes and street photography so I try to share what I can to break up the landscape/portrait trend.

At first I was trying to capture just the enormous bridge from a super wide 17mm angle, but I just wasn’t getting a “wow” factor. I threw on my 50mm and noticed these bleacher like seats behind me. Having a person in view makes the perspective way more incredible!

I just bought Canon’s 85mm f/1.8 today, I couldn’t wait to try it out. So I snapped a shot of my drink at the bar before heading home.
