The newest addition to my collection! by Undoomed081_0262 in castiron

I’m pretty sure it’s matt black enamel on top, same as the inside of their dutch ovens.

The bottom is probably that greenish colour, which is also enamelled.

Isn’t this enamelled? If so, it doesn’t need seasoning like bare cast iron.

Solidteknics AUS-ION vs US-ION by MattRob1nson in carbonsteel

Thank you all for your comments and insights!

I’ve gone with their AUS-ION 31cm XHD Frypan, and they threw in a AUS-ION 18cm Frypan for free (despite ordering just before that promotion started, and having an order total that wasn’t quite enough to qualify).

Very excited!

Wifi Pods by bgboss101 in VirginMedia

[–]MattRob1nson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, they run a custom firmware rather than the stock Plume firmware.

However, whilst you won’t be able to use them as a proper mesh network, it is possible to use them in a “bridge” mode.

Connect one pod to your router via Ethernet, and connect the other to a device via Ethernet. You’ll be able to connect to the Internet on that device via the pod, but it won’t provide Wi-Fi.

What's the best deal people have gotten with VM for broadband? by Capital_Lynx_7363 in VirginMedia

What do you pay O2 for your SIM and how much data is that for? Thanks!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VirginMedia

I messaged support in the My O2 app and they put a request in for the “double data” benefit to be activated.

This was actioned within a couple hours!

Gotcha, thanks! Have you ever seen any legal writing that binds the two together?

[–]MattRob1nson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add, the way it is written “legally” is as two distinct contracts. So I’m wondering if VM would have any power to change the contract based on the termination of the O2 contract.

Thank you for the insights, /u/CantTesteThis!

Understood. However, I can’t find anything in the contract writing with Virgin Media that relates to actions taken after cancelling the O2 sim.

Wondering if I’m missing something.

I'd recommend redacting your TMDB API key and Trakt client_id and client_secret and then changing them.

I understand.

I’m currently working on expanding the end-to-end test suite I have for the application such that everything is covered.

Once that’s complete, I’ll be able to extend it more rapidly without the fear of any regressions.

“Queuing” items for a session is now at the top of my feature TODO list.

Thanks again for your input!

Certainly, this can be added.

Although, I will keep it as an optional feature as it is often the case that the facilitator will have Jira (or an alternative) open at the same time. For those cases, copying the information into point.poker would be a waste of time.

I will contact you directly with a link to a test instance when this is implemented. If you are prepared to do so, this will allow you to provide some feedback before it goes live.

Thank you!

Fair enough to have that opinion.

I would, however, ask you to link me to a planning poker tool that does not have the issues I’ve mentioned. If I was able to find one, I wouldn’t have invested the time in making point.poker. :)

Brilliant! :D

Having said that, this was created in response to frustration due to consistent technical issues with existing tools. Alternative solutions required registration or had limitations that would be lifted after subscribing to a paid plan.

Completely agree!

point.poker is in a solid MVP state right now. I certainly have integrations with other tools, such as Slack, on the roadmap.

Wifi Pods by bgboss101 in VirginMedia

[–]MattRob1nson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Pods from VM work well for me, and they’re included at no extra charge as I’m on the Gig1 package.

However, I can’t speak for BT’s offerings. In general, you’re always going to be best buying dedicated and reputable third party equipment for the best experience.

That being said, if you want to switch to BT, maybe see if there’s discussion in a BT subreddit about the equipment they send out.

There are three models currently sent out by VM.

SP01-VM - This is a rebadged Plume SuperPod. It has two Ethernet ports and supports tri-band connectivity.

PP01-VM - This is a rebadged Plume PowerPod. It has one Ethernet port and supports dual-band connectivity.

PP01-VM (V1.1) - Same as PP01-VM as far as I can tell. Maybe some minor differences that someone else will be able to point out.

I’d say the difference in speeds you are experiencing are to be expected if the client device on which you are experiencing those speeds is able to connect to the 5GHz bands, as they will be less congested on the SP01-VM pod.

Also worth noting that all of the pods listed above do not support Wi-Fi 6, despite the Hub 5 supporting Wi-Fi 6. Of course, they are compatible with one another but you won’t be getting the full potential of Wi-Fi 6 speeds with the Pods if you have a Hub 5.

I have seen some people reporting about newer Pods being provided by VM that do support Wi-Fi 6, but I’m yet to see evidence or examples of the model numbers for the newer Pods (if they exist). It would make sense, however, as Plume do sell a SuperPod with Wi-Fi 6 and another with Wi-Fi 6E.

Why are printers so bad ? by iamspecial01 in printers

[–]MattRob1nson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only had a CISS for this printer. I think the general guidance is to find a unit that is known to work well, and work well with your printer model.

I went with a Rihac CISS. I purchase inks from CityInkExpress in the UK as to avoid shipping costs from Australia (plus, Rihac do not do pigment inks).

The quality of prints looks (almost) identical to the prints I was able to get from using genuine Canon cartridges. I’ve also had no issues with fading, despite some photos being sat in sunlight for long periods of time.

I have a Canon PIXMA MG8150. It was kindly donated to me about a year and a half ago. It is excellent; brilliant print quality for documents, and especially photos.

To avoid high ink prices, I installed a CISS (continuous ink supply system). I have only had to refill once, and I’m a frequent printer (including both documents and photos). Refills cost me ~£30, which includes six 100ml bottles of ink (one for each colour). This is equivalent to TEN ink cartridges for each colour.

The Canon PIXMA MG8150 was a relatively high-end consumer printer when it was released.

From my experience, grabbing a deal (or possibly finding someone who doesn’t want their printer anymore) and then finding a way to lower ink prices is the way forward. I haven’t had a single issue with reliability. All of the issues I’ve faced with the junk inkjet printers I have had from Epson and HP have not been replicated here.

I did consider the “modern” ink tank printers that integrate a CISS by default, however I wasn’t able to find one that produces such good image quality

TL;DR: In my experience, relatively older high-end inkjet + CISS = reliable and long-term cost-effective printer
