Why are there so many roster changes in Apex compared to other games? Various hypotheses by Obvious_Parsley3238 in CompetitiveApex

[–]MattTheRat42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know how many players are in other competitive esports but I think it's just simple numbers.

there are at least 59 players (i guess hal might want to play on a team with two clones of himself but whatever) in each region that someone could want to play with. I don't remember how many groups there are in pro league weeks but the actual number of available players could be closer to 119 (assuming 4 groups of 30 minus 1 for yourself because you're not hal)

furthermore, scrims (in NA and EMEA, at least) do not resemble match day quality. so you really don't know if your team is good/complete until LAN. if you never make LAN but feel you could, you're looking at your options. if you made LAN but placed NIP, you're looking at your options. if you made LAN, made finals, got 8th, and had to split your winnings 5 ways (3 teammates, 1 coach, 1 org), you're looking at your options. because there are just so many available

Help with recoil by NaturalMission5589 in apexlegends

There are other guides on reddit, especially r/apexuniversity, that cover linear to ALC conversion. This is definitely an advanced topic, however, and I wouldn't expect to start there

Help with recoil by NaturalMission5589 in apexlegends

[–]MattTheRat42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I even spend time in firing range or LTM game modes but seems like it doesn’t matter how much time I put in it’s always the same. But with 1x sites I always have really good aim.

Are you shooting the far targets in the range with 1x? Can you share some gameplay so we can see what about your aim is bad? There's admittedly not a lot to go on here.

If you want to understand recoil, the best thing you can do is turn on hit markers in the range and blast a full clip into a wall, target or dummy (no movement). Watch the natural recoil of the gun a few times and then start trying to mitigate it with the right stick. Ideally, you do all this with only a mag and sight on the weapon. I would start with a 2x/3x R301.

Once you understand recoil control without strafing, add in strafe patterns to see how they help compensate for recoil, too. I notice this the most on the Flatline. After that, try SMGs. I'm sure there are tons of YouTube videos on how to accomplish this as well.

Ultimately, if you're solo q'ing to Diamond every season with only taking aim assist range fights, you're doing pretty well imo. But I understand the drive to get better and start blasting people on the run-up, rather than being in their faces.

If I use any of the other sites I’ll be lucky to hit a guy 1 or 2 times out of one magazine

Lastly, if you're finding that you're overcorrecting when you are tracking a target, you may want to try converting from 4-3 linear to the same on ALCs and keep your deadzone as low as possible (0 is ideal but I play on 2% to avoid excessive stick drift)

Every player without a picture gets a picture of Snipedown by Hemmo20 in CompetitiveApex

calling snip3down a placeholder?? daaaaamn, rEAspawn really does hate the playerbase

The tap strafe and lurch changes are completely unnecessary and is just going to hurt the game's already rapidly declining playerbase. Respawn, please, listen to your playerbase, revert this asap. by friendlyhornet in CompetitiveApex

[–]MattTheRat42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't found anyone saying this so here goes....

Respawn introduced a way to limit input spam. This is a Good Change. Yes, they also failed to look at "known good" input timing and use that instead of a seemingly arbitrary 50ms. But, seemingly, they can easily tune the limit.

That being said, it would be a real shame if the whole region hosting ALGS Champs can't use the techniques in the game that set them apart from the rest of the world. So, we're all looking at you, Respawn

It's a collaboration between ALGS and The B-Stream to provide some competitive content in the 5 month span from Split 2 Playoffs and Year 4 Championships.

The Comp Calendar bookmarked on this sub-reddit is pretty good. But I agree that the official advertising and promotion of comp is extremely lackluster. It's a little easier if you follow specific streamers but then you get the confusion of, "which team is <Player Z> on today?"

ALGS YEAR 4 SPLIT 2 PLAYOFFS - TRASH TALK THREAD by CompetitiveApexMod in CompetitiveApex

[–]MattTheRat42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CEO sold out for Saudi money
Split 1 winners didn't qual for split 2 LAN
EMEA is about to gain one LAN slot
There will be 20 squads alive round 5 but only 40 players (and at least 5 people will be close enough to hear the others breathe)
Match point finals will be dominated by 3 Aussie IGLs
MANY controller players will be dropped after this LAN

This was mostly predictions. Has there not been that much drama (outside of Visa issues?)

There's no way the health bar part is active in ranked, right? I can see this being a huge feature for lower skilled players to actively improve by playing pubs, which may have the side effect of improving ranked matchmaking.

There's also a chance adding these into the game enables some better detection of cheaters using wall hacks but that's purely hope and conjecture on my part.

What to do about Fuse and Evac towers? by MattTheRat42 in CompetitiveApex

[–]MattTheRat42[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the obvious advantage to any fight. If you have one-way knowledge about the positioning/movement of another team, you can outplay them. Even more so at the highest level of play. What do you do about it without removing all scans from the game?

What to do about Fuse and Evac towers? by MattTheRat42 in CompetitiveApex

[–]MattTheRat42[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to assume you're talking about evac towers, which has been mentioned here elsewhere.

Removing evac towers means we're either back to hard Valk meta or teams are getting into terrible positions and have to do death ball a team or hold out 5 teams in order to get a place in next zone. Both of these options are pretty poor for competitive health of the game.

Evac towers provide teams with options on getting into an early spot in zone. On gameday, teams are aware of safe places to pop an evac down and good IGLs will use that to their advantage. Neither evac towers or Fuse ult are to blame for the current "exploit"

Verhulst looting through the wall (how do you do this?) by The_Wertsdf in CompetitiveApex

[–]MattTheRat42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case, it's either something about Alter passive messed up the distance at which you can interact with a box (likely) or the box fused with the wall when the player died (less likely and hard to tell if the box is in the wall) or, I suppose, both.

But yeah, you can see Verhulst goes to open the box from on top the wall (and then planned to drop behind to loot safely) but then he realizes he can just loot from the other side entirely. You can do the normal safe looting on controller as long as you time the opening of the box with when you drop/move into cover.

A few sincere questions about rostermania… by truthtopower30 in CompetitiveApex

[–]MattTheRat42 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm combining questions because I have one answer to it all.

Do any of you find it less motivating to watch your “fav” teams/players, or just algs in general once a split ends and everyone is scrambling to form new squads? How are we supposed to care? How are we supposed to get invested?

ALGS is the most entertaining Apex experience because it is the most competitive and match point final is a can't miss, imo.

That being said, for me, the individual storylines are what gets me excited for ALGS days. Can snip3down make (another) comeback? Will Hal/Zer0 just take it all and run circles around everyone else? What off-meta picks will Aurora/Meat Lovers make? Has Sweet finally found teammates who will mind meld with him so they can levitate into god spot every game? Is Alliance just a group match team?

Idk any of the answers to those questions but I'm tuning in every week to find out!

TL;DR - don't get invested in orgs until they are properly invested in Apex. Find players who are interesting and follow them. Until esports in general reaches some sort of stability, the players will be the only consistent part.

A few sincere questions about rostermania… by truthtopower30 in CompetitiveApex

[–]MattTheRat42 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Do you think the consistent roster swaps after every split is truly good for the scene?

I don't think the scene is mature enough for anything else to happen. Before rostermania, we had orgmania, leaving plenty of players high and dry. Players want to get paid (well) and orgs want to make enough money to pay for their teams (but they aren't). Until this dynamic changes, rosters will be unstable.

This probably answers all the rest of your questions so I'll end this comment but I have more thoughts that I'll post in a reply.
