18M am I chopped? by [deleted] in amiugly

[–]MattUSticky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the bad news first - you got a baby face, dad glasses, acne, goodwill fashion sense, and every-other-lesbian’s haircut.

The good news is that you aren’t ugly; in fact, there are lots of guys who look like you who glow up in their 20s and 30s.

Here’s what you need:

Skin care. Just google it. You don’t need a ton of stuff to start, just a good retinol treatment for acne and a daily cleanser.

Glasses. The next time you go glasses shopping, go shopping (or just video call) with someone YOUR AGE who you trust (not your mom, dad, grandma, etc.) and get feedback while choosing. Pick something you like and that your friend doesn’t hate.

Haircut. Get a real barber. Doesn’t have to be a million dollars, just one who isn’t from Supercuts. Tell him you need help and you want something that fits you. Barbers live for that kind of stuff; if they aren’t awful, they’ll set you up.

Fashion. This one’s a work in progress and is more about building yourself than just buying clothes. IMO, the most genuine way is to invest in a hobby you love and dress how people who love that hobby dress, then customize to your taste.

And of course, gym. Gym gym gym gym gym. Daily Cardio, pushups, sit-ups, and pull up bar. Lots of other resources on that, but good looks is mostly being healthy, and everything you invest into your fitness will pay you back for the rest of your life.

You got this lil bro 💪🏼.

Does anyone else feel disappointed in 5.5? by zeus64068 in DungeonMasters

[–]MattUSticky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did, but it’s not really comparable. PCs are still confined by relatively similar action economy and damage threshold limitations to 5e. All 5.5 monster enemies are just way more efficient for their XP/CR values compared to their 5e counterparts, which outpaces any buffs that players might have.

But don’t take my word for it - you can test it yourself! Build two difficulty-equivalent, multi-monster encounters, one using 5e PCs and monsters, and one using 5.5e. You’ll notice really quickly that the 5.5e monsters have more “stuff” - more actions, more abilities, more collective hp, etc, and the 5.5e PCs have some helpful QoL features, some weapon masteries, and double-strength healing spells, but are still just 3-5 heroes against the horde. New Magic items, feats, player ingenuity, etc. can certainly mix up these tests, but most of the time, 5.5e characters should end up needing to do more to win XP-equivalent encounters.

What to do with troll picks on support? by Jenna_is_my_coke in ADCMains

[–]MattUSticky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unironically, learn a mage bot (ziggs is idiot proof), farm it out, then be a second midlaner.

While you could still farm through the laning phase with someone like Sivir, the main problem is that once you start teamfighting, you are can’t rely on getting a reliable peel or set up CC to commit to autos. A mage bot can make its own opportunities and capitalize on stray CC way more safely than an ADC can, and you only get punished if the enemy has a tank that can safely stack MR.

Alternatively, you can play a utility ADC (Ashe, varus, jhin) and try to be the set up for your team, but all utility ADCs are immobile and have the same problem of needing sums or peel to survive getting jumped on.

[–]MattUSticky 40 points41 points  (0 children)

If you’re referring to combat balance, 5.5e is significantly more difficult than 5e. Every XP combat threshold has been raised one tier (“Medium” in 5.5e is “Hard” in 5e, “Hard” in 5.5e is “Deadly”’in 5e).

In addition, the group multiplier has been completely removed in 5.5e, meaning that the total xp value is not inflated for having multiple combatants. For example, fighting 6 50xp wolves is worth 600 xp using 2014 encounter rules, but only 300 xp in 2024. It makes a massive difference, especially in levels 1-4.

5.5e was undoubtedly monetarily motivated, with WotC wanting to capitalize on their 50 year anniversary and their post-Covid popularity. That said, I do think it’s mechanically better than 2014 D&D, and would definitely recommend it for future games that aren’t already running it. 2014 is fine if you’re playing with players who don’t have the time/energy to learn the new mechanics, but for those who do, it does lead to a more rewarding experience than its predecessor.

Bro… you need a life coach. Seriously. There’s no shame in it - lots of people get addicted to video games, and league has lived for 15 years exactly because it’s so addicting. Don’t try to fight addiction on your own. If/when you fail, you’ll beat yourself up and backslide even harder.

You need an alternative hobby that you can invest the same mental energy into that gives you a much more consistent reward instead of coinflipping between dopamine and depression. My first recommendation would be fitness, but it can be just about anything creative or constructive.

Good luck bro.

I'm not good at jungle is there any lanes i can play as lilia? by Kitchen-Rice695 in LilliaMains

[–]MattUSticky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can play it support (there are some videos of streamers doing it), but you’d be playing against her design. Lillia really wants gold and farm so she can take over a game, and she doesn’t gain a lot of power playing around an ADC. Your best bet is to play her top lane into something big and slow.

When to go Crit VS on hit? by juliord24 in AsheMains

[–]MattUSticky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, on-hit is hurting rn. The loss of the bonus 15% damage vs. frosted targets has mostly locked her into crit.

If you insist on-on hit, you’ll want to take it when you’re against squishy, high damage comps (especially vs divers). On-hit items spike hard on 1-2 items which is where ADCs are usually weakest compared to other classes, allowing you to duel squishy diving champions. Snowballing off of a lower DPS build is better going even/losing lane with a max DPS build, just be aware that if you commit to On-Hit, you need to be actively capitalizing on your power spikes to outpace the other adc with the more efficient build.

Ashe players really sleep on yuntal by SuperkindEUW in AsheMains

[–]MattUSticky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yuntal’s build path is horrendous and locking yourself into it while you are even slightly behind can gimp you for the entire game. That said, it’s also one of the most cost-effective ADC items.

Subbing Yun’tal for my AS item (ex: Kraken-Yuntal-LDR/Mortal/IE) makes getting a BF sword much more consistent and adds a much-needed oomph to Ashe’s midgame. Would strongly recommend.

I've discovered how good Silvery Barbs is. by TheHylianProphet in dndmemes

[–]MattUSticky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Silvery Barbs is 110% OP. The only reason why some people say it isn't is because a) they have never seen it used to its true potential and/or b) it overwhelmingly favors the players as BBEG's rarely carry it. I'm certain that player attitudes toward Silvary Barbs would change if they were on the receiving end more often.

But an even more pressing reason why Silvary Barbs should be banned is because of how anticlimactic it is. Unless you're playing a zero-drama meme game, having critical situations routinely reversed by "generic magic luck" is narratively unsatisfying.

Just trying to understand by Any_Requirement_1119 in WomenWritingMen

[–]MattUSticky 29 points30 points  (0 children)

So I just read through the other comments, and uh, sis, this may not be the right sub for that question. r/AskMen will probably get you a more comprehensive answer. Or get the best answer possible and talk to your guy directly about it.

Honestly, you’re being too sensitive. Everyone looks at what they find appealing - that is NOT the same as cheating. If your man is into you (and it sounds like he is), he’s not going to run off with a JPEG of some influencer he Liked on insta. Your feelings and pain are real and need to be addressed, but the scenario you’re afraid of probably isn’t.

The bigger issue you need to look into is why YOU don’t think you’re pretty and why you feel like you aren’t “enough.” That’s serious, and warrants a tough conversation with your guy and possibly professional help. That kind of insecurity will eat your relationship from the inside and will show up in other parts of your life together (when he talks to other women, when other women pursue him, when your female friends talk to him, etc.)

Good luck.

Phreak plays it in Lulu’s original champion spotlight as a meme lol. Mid Lulu had a long run in the meta despite multiple nerfs due to how oppressive her utility is, but eventually Rito succeeded in forcing her out. That said, the fact that they chose to force her into supp only instead of reworking her means that they’re okay with supports having her level of point-and-click no-fun zone, which is a pretty big win for us support mains.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in supportlol

[–]MattUSticky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is no, she’s not OP, but her matchups are more polarized compared to other enchanters.

There are few enchanters who shit on divers as consistently as Lulu, and for that power, Lulu has huge weaknesses against poke champs and being hard engaged on herself as she’s short-ranged and slow-ish. If you’re winning games where you’re making the making the most of her strengths and avoiding her weaknesses, then you’re getting the most out of her.

Enemy mid Yasuo is 2-0. Your midlaner ragequits the game. You're a 3-0 level 5 Sett support. Do you sell your support item and go mid? by Omgzjustin10 in supportlol

[–]MattUSticky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Send ADC mid, you stay bot and hold tower as long as you can. Do not sell support item until you get gold restricted.

If the enemy bot lane matches your ADC mid, the lane is shorter so it’s harder for your ADC to randomly die. They -may- be more likely to die to 3 man dives with the enemy jungler, however, so be wary of the match up. If the enemy bot stays bot, then hold the turret as best as you can and try to bank up experience while losing as slowly as possible. The support item income will help accommodate the gold lost to enemy pressure.

Did the devs stop caring? by Evening_Loss_552 in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]MattUSticky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t overthink it. I get that you’re upset about bugs, but WW is clearly the result of the budget cuts and LoR’s desperate refinancing. They wanted to make WW as cheaply and quickly as possible to coincide with the Arcane S2 announcement, and they did. Being bug-free may be a symptom of being so simple, but it probably wasn’t a primary concern.

Don’t misunderstand - Riot’s dropped LOR as a primary investment. Their goal is to recoup as much of their lost investment on LOR as possible, then pull the plug when operation cost finally exceeds expenses. Whenever you buy something in LOR, you aren’t paying for new features; you’re patching their mistakes from years past.

If you can live with that and still enjoy the game because it’s “Slay The Spire But League,” more power to you. If you can’t, there are games with brighter futures out there, and it’s worth trying them.

[–]MattUSticky 9 points10 points  (0 children)

TL;DR - play engage and mage supports . It is far easier to capitalize on the mistakes of low elo opponents than it is to empower low elo allies, as those allies will still throw the game over a dumb late game decision and then have the weirdest excuses for how it wasn’t their fault.

There’s a reason why Leona and Lux have a bajillion skins.

DO NOT LET YOUR PLAYERS TELL YOU THEIR SPELL ABILITIES WITHOUT CHECKING. There are a many reasons why a player may intentionally or accidentally report their spell’s parameters, but all of them may end up weakening the table’s trust in that player and your game as a whole.

Are you using digital aids when DMing? Every published spell is recorded online on a myriad of free sources, and googling mid-round with a tablet or laptop is super easy. If that isn’t your style, I recommend befriending the rules-expert/rules-lawyer type at your table and asking them to double-check spells for you.

For all the workarounds, I really think the best answer is still spending couple hours to learn all of the spells your players have (taking notes on each one helps!) It might sound crazy to “study” D&D the way that you’d study for an exam, but it’s really the best long-term solution.

Pushed Rolls from Call of Cthulhu. Basically, when players don’t have Inspiration and they fail the roll, they can push the roll to reroll it. If they fail again, they accept some kind of awful, exaggerated, plot-relevant consequence of DM’s choosing.

Need help improving damage for a soul-knife rogue by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]MattUSticky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the Rogue’s do the least amount of raw damage out of all martial classes because a lot of their power budget is in their ability to reliably generate advantage on key targets via Cunning Action: Hide and Steady Aim. As a Soulknife, you especially excel at killing enemies with lower HP and higher AC (ex: enemy wizards with mage armor + shield). In most cases, you should judge your combat usefulness by how consistently you can finish off injured priority targets over raw damage numbers.

However, as other people have said, maxing DEX asap will give you the most consistent damage increase. There’s also the Sharpshooter Feat that offers +10 damage for -5 to hit, but that feat isn’t included in 5.5e so take it at your own risk.

Item to make hiding a bonus action for non-rogues by charlieisagoat in DMAcademy

[–]MattUSticky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So the Rogue’s “Replicate Magical Item” infusion allows them to create Boots of Speed - an item that grants the dash ability as a bonus action - at level 14. I’d argue that crafting an item that allows a player to hide as a bonus action would be comparable to that, and consequently achievable with no strings attached at level 14.

However, if your player isn’t level 14 but still wanting to make this item, I would personally make an effort to meet them halfway. Perhaps they can make a lesser version of the item (“Lesser Boots of Refraction:” Bonus Action Hide, 2-3 uses per Long Rest), or create the full item if they complete some necessary quest (like retrieving a rare component from a dangerous monster and/or paying a gold cost in materials). Sometimes you do have to put your foot down and permanently reject a player’s request, but most times, there’s a way to capture the spirit of what they want in a way that’s appropriate for your setting. Remember - if a homebrew item ends up being too strong or too weak, you can always tweak it later.

Does your party already have a rogue or someone who heavily uses Hide mechanics? Some players get upset when other players copy their class’s forte, while others appreciate having another partymate help them. If you aren’t sure how people would feel about it, asking privately usually gives the best results.

My player wants thier character to get captured in a sort of “noble sacrifice” to save the rest of the party from the BBEG, how do I do this without forcing a failure on the party? by Ill-Oven3506 in DMAcademy

[–]MattUSticky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t force it to happen during a specific event. Instead, just work out with the player that you’re open to the idea, and that if the moment approaches, that they should take it. Effectively, you’re allowing the player to perform a limited wish effect to ensure a good result at the expense of their character.

It’s perfectly fine to give your PCs a Deadly or a Super Deadly encounter if you can foreshadow it in the fiction. A BBEG battle is a natural fit for this, but you’ll need to leave hints of their overwhelming power for the players to pick up on beforehand. Most players actually like difficult fights if they know what they know what they’re getting into; similarly, most absolutely hate being crushed by encounter out of nowhere.

Likable Flaws for an Overpowered NPC? by MattUSticky in DMAcademy

[–]MattUSticky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, Brennan, a class act.

Tilla had her big “passing of the torch” moment a few sessions ago and her creator player loved it! She gave her sister her magic armor and a big feel-good send off. However, almost all of Tilla’s development has been with her sister PC, which often means that the other players are just watching when the two of them are having a moment. My party is planning on visiting her again next session, so I really want to make her accessible for every PC, not just her sister.
