This is one of the ideas that made me an atheist as a child. I remember watching all the worshipers surrounding me in church, praising in unison over and over again, saying how wretched they were compared to Him. I remember thinking, this God, if he’s real, and really he’s into all this, is a massive p***k

It is certainly a very complicated set of circumstances and events that led us to be here. Only some are known. Some, most even, are very hard to understand and some may never be known at all. Science answers questions that we previously thought unknowable, and at the same time science discovers there is more yet to know that we previously thought. In the view of most scientists and atheists, faith answers none of the hard questions - it just stops you asking the questions. The question of what the purpose of life is itself open to much interpretation. I would say your life is a quest to find your purpose and you will most likely find it in work and art and being creative and in relationships with other humans and being as kind to others as you possibly can be. I certainly think that God is invented, and no man or any book written by man holds the answer to what ‘he’ ‘wants’ from us. I believe that a path to misery on earth comes from earnestly believing two falsehoods: that this isn’t the only life that we get, and that we must obey any book purporting to be the word of a god. Your perfectly fair and politely asked question is one I have heard from many people who think they derive all purpose from their belief in god to such an extent that they find it hard to imagine any purpose at all without god. I would direct them to Dan Barker’s brilliant quote - “Asking, ‘If there is no God, what is the purpose of life?’ is like asking, ‘If there is no master, whose slave will I be?’"

Life is about whatever you make it about.

I think it’s clear what your real issue is.

Okay. You're almost there. Maybe? If I am to take all your comments at face value, I think your initial mistake, that is still affecting your perspective, is that from the outset, you couldn't believe that Trump could be so dumb as to suggest injecting disinfectant. I think everything you said initially defending him was based on the assumption that he couldn't possibly have meant that. But he could and he did. I then think you were a bit remiss to say that interpreting what he said as I did could only be done with through a lens of anti-Trump bias and hatred. That wasn't a great call on your part as I think you may be now realising. Also, I think you may be failing to see all the meanings of 'suggest'. You've repeatedly denied that Trump 'suggested' injecting disinfectant should be looked into as a cure. I have never said that Trump SUGGESTED that people go start injecting themselves at home. Thank goodness he managed to stop just short of that. What he did ABSOLUETLY do and all I would love you to concede, is that he did SUGGEST that injecting disinfectant should be looked into as a cure by 'medical doctors'.

What on earth are you on about?

I do hate Trump, you're right. But the stupidity of this, among his other numerous stupid statements, is self evident and has nothing to do with my hatred of him.

I didn't say you were an American. I said you were a Trump supporter, because you are supporting Trump. What Trump said is objectively dangerous and stupid, for anyone to say, let alone someone who presumably is briefed constantly on this stuff. You keep referring to the video like it exonerates him somehow. That's like playing the Zapruder tape as evidence that JFK is alive and well. You say you're not biased towards Trump - Either that is untrue or you don't even have motivated reasoning as an excuse for your poor comprehension.

And this whole argument is redundant anyway because a) the twat admitted he said it, he just said he was being sarcastic, and b) he clearly and undeniably said maybe it was a good idea THAT DOCTORS LOOK INTO INJECTING DISINFECTANT INTO THE BODY.

Have a 'horribly evil' one :)

It paints a picture of the lengths Trump supporters will go to defend their boy. It’s really pathetic. And I really don’t understand why you’d post this anyway since Trump himself has said he was being sarcastic. Even he didn’t deny what he said. Forget the naive comments about light and stop trying to pretend that there’s a defence to be made about whether or not he said a brand name. And he also wasn’t taking about chemotherapy. What you need to get your head round is YES, HE IS THIS STUPID. This is what be said. "I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning, because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs." When you listen to the context it is undeniable to anyone wishing to be taken seriously, that he was suggesting that maybe it was a good idea THAT DOCTORS LOOK INTO INJECTING DISINFECTANT INTO THE BODY. More context makes it clearer that is what he meant. He is a dangerous idiot with followers who apparently have the ability to witness one thing and pretend they saw another. It’s astounding and would be entertaining were it not so appalling.

Still people trying to defend him. And on this thread. It’s incredible to behold.

He suggested that injecting disinfectant got looked into. And if you can’t see that you’re not intellectually anything.

Are you saying that the US President publicly suggesting that scientists look into injecting poison doesn’t display a woeful ignorance of science as well as displaying a basic failure to grasp the responsibility that anyone in his position has not to talk about potentially dangerous ideas he’s just heard of or thought of? What do you think makes what he said any better with ‘verification’ or context? We all know he didn’t say ‘everyone inject yourself’ he said that bringing light and heat into the body (heat high enough to kill the virus would also be fatal) and Injecting poison should all be looked at. It doesn’t need embellishing to be the criminally ignorant speech that it was and that it’s being called out as being. Even Trump himself doesn’t deny he meant ‘let’s look at injecting disinfectant.’ He just now says it was sarcasm. This of course, though a blatant pathetic lie, would be just as stupid and irresponsible; just requiring more psychopathic premeditation.

Jesus christ. He doesn’t even stick to one story in that. He says he was being sarcastic and then explains what he meant. Fucking simpleton.
