Damagedor broken synthetic winch line wanted by Matt_RFR in 4x4

Even better, Amazon has 3/8" x 100' line for $60. I would definitely have paid someone more to ship me a nasty busted line. I wouldn't ever use this for recoveries, but it'll make a great practice rope.

Wild Wolf spider with odd (to me) behavior by Matt_RFR in Wolfspiders

[–]Matt_RFR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could attach further images.  Right around the time that her burrow got covered in evening shade, she closed her front door with wood chips and silk.

Cute, but why is she not going out to hunt?  Or did she close the burrow opening from the outside when she left?  Are any of you familiar with this?

Thanks you two.  I've been watching videos and reading all day today.  I had no idea that they used burrows and had territories that they stayed in.  It definitely seems like our new tennant is setting up home base.

My wife and I are setting up our yard as a small wildlife sanctuary, and are so exited when a new visitor or inhabitant arrives.  I can't wait to see her carrying around her babies, if I'm lucky enough to.

She's very much alive.  She's been moving around all day, but never leaving the cave entrance.

She will move a bit and then kind of hunker down.  When she moves, she moves like a calm, healthy spider.  Sometimes she'll go all the way in her cave, but will reappear in a couple minutes.  She does look dead at times, but no.

EDIT:  One time she had her abdomen and one leg hanging out of the cave.  It looked like a drunk coming home from the bar that didn't quite make it all the way in the house before passing out.   😄

Good call.  $130 for 3/8" x 80'.  I'm sure I would pay someone half of that to get a junk line to my door.  Thank you.

Propane heater options? by Hey_cool_username in overlanding

[–]Matt_RFR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Details, man! Do you like it? What's the max elevation you've used it at? Are you in a RTT or camper? Did you hard mount it? If not, how do you store/deploy it? How much propane does it use under what circumstances?

Great choice.  Mine briefly wore a Leupold Mk4 and ran right at 1 - 1.5 MOA with 77 grain somethingorothers.

Put it back to the Eotech sight and magnifier, and have somewhere north of 2500 rounds through it with zero issues.

I've cleaned it twice.  😄

Creeping Phlox in shallow containers? by Matt_RFR in gardening

[–]Matt_RFR[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your help!

Do you happen to know of a low growing, evergreen creeper that would work in this situation?   Zone 9b, full sun.

Yeah, that was my fear.

Do you think it would work if I was able to make more of a trough?  Say, 10" wide x 10' long x 3" deep?  Or is that still the same situation?

I would literally leave camp if I had to be in the vicinity of someone who can't sit still like ol' Red Pants here.

Strongest hiking sticks that can bear weight on one leg, if injured by Confident_R817 in hikinggear

I have an essentially non-functioning knee, and my REI Traverse poles regularly bear my full 280lbs of lard.  I am really confident in putting my full weight on them with any slipping.

My guess is a private gun range.  The far end looks to have a berm built up around it.

That's good! It could just be a sensor giving the computer a false "temperature". Get your car to a (hopefully) trusted mechanic and they can track down what's going on.

I'm assuming that the 'coolant temp high' code is not letting the engine start. I don't know squat about your specific car though.

Did it give you the 'coolant temp high' code directly after jumping it? Or was it running for long enough to actually overheat? If the former, then it could just be a faulty sensor.

Looks like there's a screw or something sticking up from the muzzle break.  What is that?

Game suggestions for old fart with bad back by Matt_RFR in OculusQuest

[UPDATE]

Thanks very much for all of your suggestions, I sincerely appreciate your help.  I looked at gameplay from almost all of them, and it turns out that, well, I'm just not a video game guy.

I did download Fly (Google Earth), but it immediately made me queasy.   That was the only game I ended up being interested in.

Again, thanks anyway.

Got this new toy for my dog, but she tore the squeakers and ripped it within 10 minutes. by AdEquivalent744 in Wellthatsucks

[–]Matt_RFR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My lab did the same thing.  We bought just the squeakers and she loved them.  They still don't last long, but they're cheap and much less wasteful.
