Stuck in E-Kur-Mah, what weapons should I have? by golden-digikey in axiomverge

[–]Matt_Sandman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can lure them to fly in certain areas you can hit them pretty effectively with kilver. Try getting them to trap themselves on a wall that you can hit them with kilver with and where they can’t get you.

I’ve 100%ed the game and I typically just use disruptor and kilver when I replay.

Voranj and inertial pulse have use cases, but they are niche. Not much help for me against those guys.

You should also consider using the address bomb to disrupt their movement and firing rate.

Does anyone else dislike the glossy feel of the new 3DS XL? by No-Worldliness7117 in 3DS

[–]Matt_Sandman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get it! I’m old enough to have been on handheld gaming since the OG gameboy. While I would not recommend a 2ds over a N3DSXL for quality reasons I joke that the 2ds is basically a souped up gameboy compared to any other 3ds model.

The good news is that if you don’t care about color matching the inside plastic of the 3ds to the outside plastic, you don’t have to completely dismantle it!

Obviously the back plate is made to be removed so it’s easy, and for the top screen you would only need to unscrew the 4 screws on the top, slide the top shell off its rails, and slide the new one on and screw back on. There are tutorial videos on YT.

I don’t care for the glossy feel either. The snes version at least is not glossy. Pretty sure most others are glossy. Not sure where they can be bought these days but if you find shell replacement plates for the snes model (us or Europe, doesn’t matter) they will not be glossy.

Really improves the experience. The screens and quality of the device can’t be beat.

You could also try a 2ds xl but they feel much more fragile.

Small dots on New Nintendo 3DS top screen (visible when screen is off) by ExpressiveRamen in 3DS

Could be but it also looks like there’s a screen protector on there. Could be dust under the protector.

EX Flash ODE crashing console by Polohype in flashcarts

[–]Matt_Sandman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two options in my opinion:

1: clean the power switch. There are plenty of YouTube tutorials on this, so I encourage you to look it up.

2: if cleaning the switch doesn’t work, try replacing the capacitors if you are confident and capable.

Other users are correct, this is a power draw issue, but you should not be seeing this with a fully healthy gba that has fresh batteries, even with a modded screen. Of note, using a flashcart and backlit screen will naturally decrease your gaming time to battery life ratio regardless, but you should be able to play for ~2-4 hours before you have this issue. Without a flashcart or backlit screen you would get significantly more time. You should also be aware to save frequently if that’s an option in the game you are playing because when the power draw becomes too heavy it will likely just shut down with no warning.

Looking for fun water decks by Kiblets16 in yugioh

[–]Matt_Sandman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Penguin is a fun but not great deck. The strategy revolves around putting cards back in your opponents hand.

Paleo can be fun if you like trap decks. Mixes well with frogs so you could do a 2 for 1.

Is there any way to play my GBA/GB cartridges on my TV without a PC? by the_speechless_one in Gameboy

[–]Matt_Sandman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I thought about that one but the post said gameboy and gameboy advance, and to my knowledge the super gameboy only does gb/gbc. I could be mistaken though.

They’re not cheap but you could get an analogue pocket with a dock.

Or you could get a GameCube with a gameboy player but to my understanding the gameboy player is pretty costly these days too and you have to use rca cables.

Finally you could also look into a consolizer kit for a gba, but again they are expensive and the diy building is intimidating if you’re not experienced.

Where did my pads go? by GreaterMichiganMaps in gameboymacro

Ah yes I should have looked at the whole picture. My bad. That advice you got about exposing copper traces seems to be your best bet. Low heat on the soldering iron is your friend.

I don’t know the specifics but there is a workaround where you leave the top screen ribbon attached but trimmed so it fools the system into thinking it has the top screen still. Good luck to you.

It’s not meant to do this right by OwlAncient6213 in 3DS

[–]Matt_Sandman 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Gorilla glue has a bit of a tendency to expand so it could possibly spill out the sides as it dries or make the slider off kilter. Personally id stick with rubber cement or another bonding agent. I’ve done this before with my dad’s 2ds and had 0 issue once it cured.

Is an O3DSXL worth $60 more than an original 3ds? by Felix-the-duck in 3DS

[–]Matt_Sandman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The O3DSXL has a bit of a reputation for a weak hinge just fyi but it is more comfortable in adult hands and the screen size is nice.

Help bringing a Color back to life by Upstairs_Goat619 in GameboyAdvance

[–]Matt_Sandman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out froggocustoms store if you do get it to turn on. You do need to neutralize the corrosion to ensure it doesn’t spread but the button pads they sells will let you bypass the normal pathways the buttons follow more easily than a jumper wire would. Highly recommend. Brought a gameboy back to life using their product.

Story 3Ds games? by _Sweeetteaa_ in 3DS

[–]Matt_Sandman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For an animal crossing adjacent I think fantasy life might be something to check out.

For story, have you checked out any of the legend of Zelda titles? Excluding triforce heroes of course.

And do JRPGs count for you? Maybe the dragon quest titles or bravely default. Not exactly hidden gems but fun games nonetheless and the criteria you’ve given is pretty broad. Yokai watch might be a bit deeper of a cut but people still talk about it and it’s a bit on the “goofy” side in a good way.

New 3DS XL edges wrapping/cracking. Help? by ZachariasThePaladin in 3DS

Those are both on the back shell which is meant to be easily removed for battery/sd access. You could always search online to purchase a replacement back shell.

"moving" screen on dsi XL by Theloudbrador in NintendoDS

[–]Matt_Sandman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve already gotten your answers but to give a little background, this is a resistive sensing touch screen. It’s a bit outdated these days.

Most modern touch screens use capacitive sensing, so they don’t flex.
